The requirements placed on surfaces
are as varied as the products. As soon
as we receive an enquiry, our specialists
strive to find the best possible coating
structure for each application. The
technical suitability of each coating
solution is discussed in detailed
consultation with our experts, and the
most economical method is established.
In response to each enquiry received by
the job shop, DODUCO immediately

Specialist in precious metals
By using PVD technology, virtually all
precious metals can be deposited, even
onto non-conductive materials. The
range of processes includes depositing
fine gold and a number of hard gold
alloys for contact applications, and
plating with fine and hard silver,
palladium, palladium nickel, rhodium and
platinum. State-of-the-art production
processes guarantee the maximum
cost-effectiveness. We have several
electroplating machines at our disposal
so that even large production runs can
be handled efficiently. Manual
processing lines designed on a modular
basis enable new processes to be
quickly adapted and optimized in order
to build up layers to meet customerspecific requirements. Finally, a
production area for coating ceramic
substrates rounds off our range of
services.
Development partnership more than just a slogan
Technical advisers, process engineers
and development staff in the electroplating division at DODUCO recommend
ways of customizing coating technologies to the requirements of our customers latest products. In doing so, both
technical and economic aspects are
taken into account and discussed with
the customer in advance. Together with
the customer, we clarify any issues related to the design principle of the product
to be coated, the mechanical and electrical requirements, the choice of suitable
pre-treatment, the layers to be applied
and the sequence in which they should
be applied, the required layer thicknesses, the effects of the technologies used
on subsequent stages of processing and
the effects and influences caused by the
ambient atmosphere. During this procedure it always transpires that there are a
number of different layer systems that
can be used in the subsequent project
and these options then have to be
individually tested and researched by
DODUCO and/or the customer to
establsh their suitability.
SURFACE AND COATING TECHNOLOGY
At an early point during the cooperation
between the customer and DODUCO,
the from of delivery between the two
parties is agreed upon. Here, too, requirements relating to purity and cleanliness
(e.g. suitability for clean room conditions)
with regard to the product to be coated
and the surface and the type and
method of packaging used by DODUCO
are established.
Project management
After the coating or coating variants and,
if necessary the workpiece holder, too,
have been determined in consultation
with the customer, our project management team takes on the task of scheduling and coordinatin the project. The aim
is to find a layering system which fulfils all
the customer‘s requirements with regard
to the product and ist workability. Solutions are always arrived at with a view to
keeping costs down and quality high.
The project management team acts as
the interface between the customer and
the production and development
departments, suppliers, the different
laboratories and Quality Assurance, and
remains the central point of contact
throughout the entire implementation
phase of the project. The team coordinates the technical variants as well as
deadlines, costs and any further measures which may arise from the results of
the work on the various coating variants.
All date pertaining to the project is
documented in transparent detail.
The results obtained for the various
coating variants are passed on to the
customer and the results of any trials
carried out by the customer are made
available to DODUCO for further
optimization.
Once the most suitable coating has been
established, a sample is prepared for
approval by the customer before forming
the basis for series production.
Coating of technical
components
Our areas of expertise include plating a
wide variety of metallic materials both
with precious metals such as gold, silver, palladium and rhodium as well as
with base metals such as tin, tin/lead,
chemically applied and electrolytic nickel
coating and electrolytic copper plating.
In addition to the conventional substrate
materials of copper and copper alloys,
we can also apply strongly bonded coatings to aluminum, high-alloy steels as
well as to more specialized materials.
Plating of metal
strips
Strips can be solid, pre-stamped or beltlinked. Strips and stamped parts made
of copper and copper alloys, nickel and
nickel alloys, stainless steel or beryllium/bronze and can be coated additionally hardened or annealed.
Electroplating is used for fine and hard
gold, silver, palladium/nickel, copper and
nickel as well as pure tin and tin/lead
alloys. In addition, metal strips can also
be hot-dip tinned.
SURFACE AND COATING TECHNOLOGY
Special
coatings
These include plating with special materials such as molybdenum, molybdenum/copper, tungsten, tungsten/copper,
AlSiC and die-cast zinc as well as our
activities in the area of selective plating,
which represents a low-cost solution
since it enables the amount of precious
metal deposited to be reduced to that
needed to coat the required surface
only.
The selective deposition of precious
metal on to individual parts is achieved
by using special masks and masking
techniques.

For ceramic substrates, DODUCO offers
future-ready coating technologies in
which metallic conductive pastes in
tungsten, pure silver, silver/palladium or
silver/gold are applied to ceramic substrates to give a final surface of electroless
nickel/immersion gold, electroless
nickel/immersion gold/reductive gold or
electroless nickel/palladium/immersion
gold.
The technological focus is on the combined use of gold and aluminum wire
bonds.
PVD coatings
As the perfect complement to and extension of our electroplating services, we
also offer PVD coating services. This
process enables even non-conductive
substrates such as plastic, ceramic,
glass and titanium based materials to be
coated. In addition to silver, hard gold,
palladium, platinum, copper, nickel and
chromium, coatings can also be made of
materials which cannot be deposited by
means of electrolysis, such as tungsten,
titanium, aluminum, titanium nitride, alloys
and composites.

Analysis and laborarory
The actual work of the developer starts in
the chemical development lab. Initial
support comes from the analytical lab,
which is also at the disposal of our customers. For example, this is where electrolytes are analyzed by means of atomic
absorption spectroscopy, ICP-OES or
HPLC. These processes are used to
determine whether the constituent
components lie within the prescribed
limits or whether the composition of a
given alloy conforms to the prescribed
specification. The results are
documented. Regularly performed,
precise analytical techniques are crucial
to the subsequent development work and
for the effectiveness on the processes
developed.

be deposited and the formats that can
be plated make DODUCO the ideal
partner for PCB manufacturers for whom
it is not economical to plate circuit boards
as part of their own production process.

Development
DODUCO‘s development goals are
based on the dictated of the market and
the requirements of our customers.
Here the main focus is on the search for
innovative, environmentallyfriendly solutions and simpler, more stable processes.
Our experienced development team
optimizes and develops electrolytic and
chemical products in the light of current
and future market demands. Even specialized customer requirements are
incorporated into our development work.
Development projects also draw on the
expertise of our own analytical and
materials labs. A distinct advantage of this
is the gradual testing of the products
under development from laboratory scale
and pilot plant to full implementation
under production conditions in our own
electroplating plants. This means that it is
not left up to the customer to acquire the
experience that must be gained prior to
commencing series production, but that
this is done in our own production department. This is a significant advantage
for our customers.
Electroplating products
DODUCO offers a wide range of
electroplating products for the production
and treatment of innovative surfaces. This
includes precious metal baths, salts,
concentrates and preparations as well as
non-precious metal baths, products and
processes for PCB technology and
surface treatment products such as
metal strippers, cleaning solutions and
silver antitarnish protection.
PVD coating
DODUCO has a variety of sputtering
plants to suit different workpiece
geometries.
Product Delivery
Once the first parts have been coated,
the properties of the layers are assessed
and measured for the first time. There are
a variety of measurement techniques that
can be used for this, depending on the
parameters specified. These methods
range from the non-destructive measurement of the brightness or reflectivity of the

Barrel plating
Bulk items can be plated with many
different combinations of layers of varying
thicknesses. In each case, the most
suitable electroplating unit and production
line are chosen to match the geometry of
the parts and the batch size.
Rack plating
New products and parts with complex
geometries impose special demands on
the production of workpiece racks and
jigs to ensure that the required layer
thickness is deposited even on less
accessible areas of the product. To meet
this requirement, DODUCO has its own
rack and jig construction department.
By using product-specific holders and a
variety of planetary drives, a uniform
coating can be applied, regardless of
whether the surface is coated completely
or selectively.
The PVD process gives an extremely
uniform coating thickness and an
excellent adhesion. Furthermore, the
layers can subsequently be reinforced
through electroplating.
PCB technology
DODUCO offers customers from the
PCB industry a comprehensive range of
surfaces for printed circuit boards. Highly
efficient plants are available which ensure
consistent quality and short delivery times
for the externally electroless and
electrolytic plating of rigid, semirigid and
flexible circuit boards. Each process can
handle all common formats up to
