President’s Report
Ben Ploskon – Chapter President
.
Welcome to the New Year with new with a new venue for the January to
start the year off. That is right the January Chapter Meeting WILL NOT be
held at the Bowman’s Restaurant in Carney. We are relocating the meeting
Bahama Breeze in Towson. I would like to thank Jason Eagles for all of his
hard work making this change a reality. We are in need of some assistance in
this change; we need to have our own projection screen for the
presentation. If anybody happens to have one that they can bring to the
meeting please contact Emagii Graves, Kathy Dwyer, Bob Radford, or
myself. Contact information is listed to the right of this article.

familiar faces and meet some new people as well. Based on the feedback from those who attended, it looks like
the bowling party will be the leading contender for party ideas next year as well.
On the National level, Billy Smith, FASPE, is the Interim Director/CEO while the Society looks for a more
permanent solution. Billy Smith recently joined the Society as the Senior Director of Technical and Regulatory
Affairs in May of this year. Smith has represented the interests of ASPE and the plumbing engineering community
in code and standards activities as well as serving as a technical resource for the ASPE staff and membership.
Smith has been working on building relationships with other industry organizations to ensure that the public’s
health and safety are kept at the forefront of legislation and regulations regarding plumbing system design,
installation, inspection, and maintenance.
Membership Dues Hardship Waiver
Society offers a hardship waiver for members who have lost their jobs. Go to www.aspe.org for
more details on applying for this benefit.
You may not think this helps, but it allows a member to stay active and take advantage of ASPE
programs, both local and national.

Vice President - Membership
The holidays are again behind us as we look forward to a
new year. I hope everyone enjoyed a happy and relaxing
holiday season. But as all good things must come to an
end, we find ourselves back to the grind in the blink of an
eye. I am happy to report the addition of a new member to
the Baltimore Chapter, Joshua Meles, P.E., who officially
joined us on December 1, 2014. We will look forward to
meeting Joshua at one of our upcoming spring meetings.
I hear change is afoot with our local chapter and am
hopeful it brings a renewed level of involvement from our
engineering community. As always, if you or someone
you know has questions about becoming a member of
ASPE feel free to contact me:

Chapter Treasurer
I want to thank everyone who signed up to
participate as speakers, meeting sponsors
and table top displays. There are still some
prime places left. We would love you to
support your industry and sign up. This will
be the last meeting for awhile here at
Bowman Restaurant. In December we will
be doing our Holiday bowling again at
Mustang Alley. We are looking for some
possible bar sponsors for our Christmas
meeting (PS EVERYONE loves the bar
sponsors!!!) In the month of January we will
be trying out a new location to hold our
meetings. More info to come later. We
finished the year in the black and are
continuing to be a very viable chapter.
Thanks again to all our members and
associate members. Please talk us up to your
associates at work.
I am looking forward to seeing you on
November 19, 2013 Bowman’s.
We are having fewer troubles with credit cards
and appreciate all your patience.

CPD Review Class
The Washington DC and Baltimore ASPE Chapters will be
conducting a CPD Review Class on Saturday, March 14, 2015
at the office of EJ Dwyer in Annapolis Junction, Maryland
thanks to our generous sponsors Kathy and Ned Dwyer.
Members of other ASPE Chapters are more than welcome to
attend the session as well. The class will be from 9:00 AM to
4:00 PM. Directions to the office of EJ Dwyer may be found
on the Company web site at www.ejdwyer.com.
New this year, the CPD exam will be open book. Candidates
are allowed to bring up to six (6) manuals/books to the testing
site. The exams are scheduled to take place on April 9th and
10th around the country. Note: Written registration forms are
due by March 1st and online registration closes March 12th
(two days prior to this review class.)
All ASPE members interested in attending the CPD review
class are required to pre-register by forwarding an e-mail to
David Bailey at the following address:
[email protected] along with a Cc to
[email protected] or vice versa. If you are not an ASPE
member or your membership has lapsed, and you want to save
a few dollars, then contact a local Chapter VP Membership to
activate your annual ASPE membership prior to registering for
the CPD exam. It will be like getting a year’s membership
free. What a bargain? Furthermore, there is no charge for the
ASPE members. What a better bargain. And the Dwyer’s will
be providing breakfast and lunch as in years past, it’ll be the
best bargain of all!
Scholarship Report
Jason Eagles –
Scholarship Chair
We recently awarded (2) $1,000
scholarships to Jennifer Betley and
Austin Hogue. Jennifer has been
awarded our scholarship multiple
times. She has continued to excel
academically; earning all A’s again last
semester. She is currently taking her
final courses to receive her Associates
degree. She will be transferring to
UMBC. Both have shown tremendous
gratitude to our chapter and look
forward to one day being among our
ranks. To that end, Jennifer will be
attending the January 28, 2015 meeting
at our NEW location.
Please take some time to welcome and
congratulate her on her success.
The day of the CPD review class, attendees are expected to
bring a calculator, writing materials, a copy of the CPD
Review Manual, and a hard copy of all attachments that may
accompany a pre-register return e-mail response.
Any additional inquiries may be addressed to me via e-mail or
by calling 202-742-1437.

Monthly Sponsorship Opportunities
The Baltimore Chapter of ASPE continues to have
successful meetings and is looking to continue
improving throughout the year. The strong foundation
that begins in September is the springboard for an
even better year than last year.
Last year the Chapter initiated the following sponsorship opportunities that were well received:
Meeting Sponsorships: $200.00 to sponsor an open
bar for the happy hour period of a monthly meeting.
This includes announcement in the newsletter,
multiple email notices of the meeting and signs at the
monthly meeting sponsored. Two (2) sponsorships
available per meeting.
Tabletop Presentations: Two (2) opportunities per
meeting to provide a tabletop presentation of
equipment or material relative to the plumbing
profession. The tabletops will be set up from the
beginning to the end of the monthly meeting. The cost
is two (2) $50 gift cards to be raffled to attendees. The
cost includes announcements in the multiple email
announcements of the monthly meeting and at the
meeting itself.
There are two gift card raffles: one for engineer
members only (at no charge to the engineer) and one
for all attendees at a cost of $1 per chance and 6
chances for $5.00.
