The long awaited completion of the Rosarito Beach
Condo-Hotel is soon coming to a close. The landmark
Hotel has received guests and visitors from around the
globe for over eighty years and now, for the first time,
people have the opportunity to own a part of the legend.
New murals are being painted upstairs along with new
hardwood flooring being installed on the second floor and
stairs. All of the furniture in the lobby will reflect Mexico
of the 1930’s and the front desk will be completely
restored as well.
“This is one of the most exciting times in our history and
as each week passes we can feel the excitement building.
This is more than just an expansion of the hotel, which
we have had on numerous occasions in the past; it is an
expansion of our hotel family,” says Laura Torres, executive director of the Rosarito Beach Hotel. “Each new
owner of the condo-hotel is not only a guest but so much
more because they have purchased a part of our history.
Everyone here at the Hotel is looking forward to this
monumental event that commemorates the beginning of
a new chapter in the life of this Baja landmark and brings
the total room number to potentially five-hundred
rooms,” Ms. Torres went on to say.
Outside, the main entrance and parking will be completely repaved with cement and new Hacienda lighting
fixtures installed. The historic swimming pool and
Kiddies’ pool will both be refinished. A $300,000 investment in elevators and room furnishings is going into the
eight-story Coronado Tower.
In addition to the new construction which will offer many
new lodging options and amenities, the Hotel is undergoing extensive renovations which will be most noticed in
the grand lobby where all of the murals are being restored
to their original brilliance and colors and the porcelain
floor tiles are being replaced.
The men’s restroom in the Spa is being completely
remodeled, and within the historic building a new restaurant is being planned as well as a new bar bringing the
total to three restaurants and eight bars. Bartenders are
competing in monthly contests on “most original” and
“best” drinks concocted and the Surf School is now open.
In addition to attracting celebrities and royalty from
around the world, the Rosarito Beach Hotel & Resort is
also known for attracting families. The affordable pricing
and many activities designed to keep both children and
adults happy and occupied have been a tradition that we
are very proud of here at the Rosarito Beach Hotel &
Resort.
Mostly, we are interested in making your stay a pleasant,
fun, and relaxing experience and as part of our services
we want to take care of your children’s recreational
activities. The Kid’s Club, fun on the sand and in the sun,
is available for our younger guests where there is plenty to
do for children of all ages. Play in the surf, hunt for crabs,
play ball games, go on rides, build sandcastles, enjoy the
pools-including a kiddies’ pool... they won’t run out of
things to do. Just sign your children up for all the free
activities when you register. And remember, up to two
children twelve and under always stay free.
Vacation Camp is another of the many activities waiting
for your children. Here is the summer schedule of
Vacation Camp activites:

Many of our frequent guests have expressed to us their
confusion regarding what documents are now required
of U.S. citizens for land travel between the U.S. and
Mexico. Deadlines and requirements have changed
several times in resent months and the confusion is
totally understandable. Let us help you.
Beginning February 1, 2008 you were able to apply for
the alternative Passport Card for use in land and sea
travel between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, the
Caribbean and Bermuda.
This card costs $45 US dollars for adults (versus about
$100 for a regular passport) and $35 for children. The
card is great if you aren’t planning to go abroad or
Indonesia or some place like that. Additional details
are available at:
http://travel.state.gov/passport/ppt_card/ppt_card_39
26.html
It breaks down into basically a couple of different
ways. As of January 31, people older than 18 are
required to show a government-issued photo ID
(driver’s license) and proof of citizenship (original
birth certificate, naturalization certificate or passport). Those 18 and under will just need to show
proof of citizenship.
Passports or an alternative border crossing card will
likely be required sometime between summer of
2008 and June of 2009. We are hoping it will be
2009, to give sufficient time for preparation, so as
not to add to border crossing times that are already
much too lengthy. Please visit the www.cbp.gov website for updates.
The sign above the entrance to our grand lobby
that reads: “Por Esta Puerta Pasan Las Mujeres
Mas Hermosas Del Mundo” translates to
“Through this door pass the most beautiful women
in the world.”
And since 1925, hundreds of thousands of them
have. Beautiful woman such as Marilyn Monroe,
Rita Hayworth, Kim Novak, and Lana Turner to
just name a few have graced our Hotel with their
presence. So the next time you pass through that
doorway and you are in the company of a woman,
don’t hesitate to tell her what it means. And if
you’re a woman then remind your man who he is
with, not just any woman but one of the most
beautiful women in the world.
There are a lot of great reasons to come to Rosarito –
the beaches, the sunsets, the dining, the shopping, the
spas, the nightlife, the culture – but how about the
gasoline? When the cost of gasoline is at an all time
high in Southern California, it’s nice to know you can
buy it here in Baja at almost a dollar per gallon in
savings. As of May 7, the average gas prices in Southern California were $3.92 per gallon for regular
unleaded and $4.24 per gallon for premium unleaded.
Compare that to Baja’s gas prices of $2.69 per gallon
for regular, a savings of $1.29 per gallon, and $3.05 per
gallon for premium, a savings of $1.19 per gallon! It
pays to come to Rosarito Beach!
It might surprise you to learn that Mexican gasoline
does not use the controversial MTBE additive and no
Mexican automotive gasoline contains even the
slightest trace of lead additive.
