New York State’s
Standards-Based System
NYLearns.org was developed in response to the
profound need to assist teachers in understanding
and applying a standards-based approach to
teaching and learning – and in response to the need
to deliver resources to teachers in ways that make the
learning standards meaningful and manageable.
The overarching thrust of NYLearns is to identify,
organize and deliver educational resources that are
aligned to learning standards. NYLearns also provides
teachers with easy-to-use integrated classroom tools
that enhance their teaching effectiveness.
NYLearns.org provides (at NO COST to your district):
• Online access to all NYS Learning Standards and the
new Common Core Standards;
• Online access to peer-reviewed, standards-based, educational
resources and instructional content developed by master
teachers and content providers;
• The ability to find educational resources based on the NYS
performance indicators.
NYLearns’ organizational mission is
leveraging technologies to advance
the overall quality of education for
all children.
We believe the
NYLearns project addresses the
following
challenges
currently
faced by many districts:
1. Reducing the overall
software/hardware/textbook
costs for districts.
2. Integrating the new
NYS Common Core Standards.
3. Focusing a district’s
standards-based curriculum
and instruction initiative
toward student achievement.
If a school district’s ultimate goal is
student
achievement
and
achievement is widely defined in
education as student scores on
NYS standards-based assessments,
then implementing the NYLearns
standards-based system is one of
the most important curriculum and
instruction initiatives within a
school district.
