Guests in sparkling gowns and tuxedoes were treated to
performances during dinner that included a rousing rendition
of “Masters of the Maltz,” featuring cast members from
Les Misérables performing a full song and dance set to the
musical’s tune Master of the House, but with personalized
lyrics written to honor the Golubs. Led by the theatre’s
Director of Education Julie Rowe, the Maltz Jupiter Theatre’s
Youth Touring Company performed an original arrangement
of Castle on a Cloud from Les Misérables, and 11-year-old
student Alexander Goodwin-Elam serenaded the Golubs with
the tune Where is Love from the musical Oliver.
A board member since 2006, Roberta has served as the
chairman, co-chair, honorary chair and publicity chair of
many of the theatre’s past gala celebrations and is actively
involved with the theatre’s Paul and Sandra Goldner
Conservatory of Performing Arts. Her husband Harvey,
former CEO and chairman of American Express, serves as
chairman of the theatre’s endowment board.
The exquisite evening also featured solo performances
from Les Misérables cast members Gregg Goodbrod and
Aloysius Gigl and a live auction, with proceeds that provided
scholarships for 52 local children to attend classes and camps
at the theatre’s Conservatory during the upcoming school
year.
“Our biggest fundraiser of the year stayed true to the
theatre’s mission of entertaining, educating and inspiring
our community,” said Pamela Dyar, the theatre’s director of
development. “The Dream Ball’s
success is a tribute to the quality
of performing arts education at the
Maltz Jupiter Theatre.”
Following cocktails and hors
d’oeuvres, guests dined like royalty
on a succulent four-course meal,
featuring beef Wellington, a crab
salad (complete with peas in a
pod and marigolds), and a dessert
trio of caramel salted ice cream
and dark chocolates, key lime pie
and fresh strawberries in a crystal

everyone enjoying an unforgettable
evening, and we are incredibly grateful for the tremendous
support from the community,” said Andrew Kato, the
theatre’s producing artistic director. “As the largest regional
theatre in Florida, we could not continue to thrive without
those that contribute to the theatre’s success.”
The annual event raised funds for the theatre’s awardwinning productions to help keep its performances affordable
for all, as well as inspiring the next generation of young
audiences through the theatre’s community outreach
programs. It also helped support local families by providing
scholarships.

Hanley Center Foundation’s 20th Annual Family Picnic
Celebrates A Milestone
Child-Friendly Benefit Raised
Funds For Substance Abuse
Prevention Efforts In Local
Schools
On Sunday, Feb. 22, Hanley Center Foundation’s 20th
annual Family Picnic raised critical funds for the nonprofit’s
prevention and education programs. Held under a ringside
tent at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center in
Wellington, the benefit offered the opportunity for families
to come together for a day of activities for all ages – a key
way to prevent future substance abuse, according to Picnic
Chairman Val Perez.
“When statistics say one in four Americans will have an
alcohol or drug problem at some point, nearly everyone we
know is touched by substance abuse in some way,” shared
Perez. “Hanley Center Foundation does an incredible job of
educating our community and raising awareness about the
effects of addiction. Additionally, events like the family picnic
offer a great opportunity to gather families – a key component
of prevention – to get people talking. The more people are
talking, the better chance we have at breaking down the
stigma that still comes with the disease of addiction.”
The day’s lineup of events included VIP seats for world-class
equestrian show jumping, animal encounters, face painting, a
photo booth with fun props, a magician, a kids-only silent
auction and a family-focused luncheon – marking the Hanley
Center Foundation’s 20th year of raising funds for substance
abuse prevention efforts in local schools. In addition to the
silent auctions, Sheriff Ric Bradshaw, honorary chairman,
auctioned off “Sheriff for a Day” experiences to three lucky
families, raising funds that totaled more than $10,000.
“For 20 years, this event has met a critical need in our
community by raising funds for our prevention and education
department,” said Hanley Center Foundation CEO Dr. Rachel
Docekal. “Our prevention staff provides age-appropriate
substance abuse programs to elementary, middle and high
school students in public and private schools using a model
that reinforces self-confidence, positive messaging and
positive peer pressure. We hope the families who attended
the picnic saw it as an opportunity to reinforce that family
time is time well spent, all while benefiting a really important
cause. We thank our chairs, committee and sponsors for their
leadership in making this year’s milestone such a success.”
Led by Chairmen Val Perez and Denise Groo; Cochairmen Michelle and Bob Diffenderfer, and Dena and

Interview with a Bachelor
By Kelly Leary, M.S., Founder
of Revolution Dating
It was a beautiful spring
Florida day. Rachel McKee,
vice president of Revolution
Dating, and I were on our way
to meet a very handsome and
successful V.I.P. client for
lunch at Brio. We will call
him William Cobb. William
is 58 years old and widowed.
We enjoy getting to know
our clients in and out of the office. “The Revolution is
the solution,” as one male client said this week. With new
members pouring in monthly, there is never a dull moment.
As the lunch started, William began telling us how much
fun he had at our last party. He said he enjoys seeing the
old and new faces at our events. As hosts, we have to agree.
There was a woman there who he had dated once. She liked
him and wanted the relationship to take off. He didn’t feel
the same way. This woman (we will call her Joan Avery) was
beautiful, but we were just getting to know her as a newer
client. Talking to William would help us help her and him. I
love win-wins.
We chatted about what he LOVEs in women. Of course,
like all men, he is visual. He mentioned he likes a woman who
is well dressed, and he also highlighted that her demeanor
should be soft, easy and kind. (Good advice for Power
Women.)
About half way through the
lunch, we still wanted specifics
on Joan. There had to be more
to the story.
Kelly: William, what didn’t
you like about Joan?
William: She has too much
money for me. (He said with a
grin and we laughed out loud
too...he has a good sense of
humor.)
Kelly: No really, you seem Last year’s Love-Fest 2014 is still being called: “The Singles Party of the Year!”

She also talked about her former husband and that made me
uncomfortable. Kelly, she was gorgeous, but she is NOT
for me. Looks don’t mean much when a woman is not good
company.
At that point, I felt I did my due diligence for Joan and
I knew I could give her constructive feedback for her next
match at our club. She really struck out with William and

Hearing Solutions
Reprogramming Your Brain
By Murray Steinfeld, LHAS,
BC-HIS, ACA
Board Certified
Audioprosthologist
How long will it take
before I truly begin to realize
maximum benefits from my
new hearing aids? That’s a
question I very often hear
from patients acquiring new
hearing aids. My response is
first you must be fitted with
properly prescribed instruments after you receive a very
complete and comprehensive audiological evaluation, not a
“quick screening,” which generally leaves a lot to be desired
in necessary information. Then you are entitled to a complete
consultation to explain what was found in the evaluation and
then a careful selection and recommendation of the type and
kind of instrument that will give you the very best possible
result over the long term, based on your capability. Finally
a cost that is affordable to you, the patient.
Frankly, in my close to 25 years practicing in northern
Palm Beach County, I have chosen intentionally to remain
completely independent which is something difficult to find
today. I have done this so I could have available for my
patients exactly what would be best to help them with their
hearing concerns and not because I am a part of a major
laboratory or committed to the products produced by any
laboratory.
It is important to understand that before you can obtain the
maximum benefits from your new hearing instruments your
brain must relearn some or all of the sounds your ears haven’t
heard or been able to pick up because of your hearing loss.
Our brain is designed to be moldable like plastic or rubber.
For example, if someone has a stroke, another part of our
brain can possibly take over some or most of the tasks of the
damaged part of the body.
When we lose some of our hearing, that part of the brain,
which has lost the input from our ears in certain frequencies,
gets rewired to do other things and is no longer programmed
to recognize those sounds. They are “gone” even when we
first use our new hearing aids.
If the hearing loss hasn’t progressed too far before a patient
has obtained hearing help the brain will relearn some or
even all of the sounds it now receives with help from quality
hearing instruments.
However, don’t expect it all to happen immediately. Recent
studies show that our brain generally will take five to six weeks
to begin effectively processing the information and then the
reprogramming begins. Little by little we begin to recognize
more of the sounds that we have been missing and we then
begin to understand more of what people are saying.
So, how long before the reprogramming kicks in?
Truthfully, it depends on the individual patient but most
people begin to realize a meaningful improvement within 90
days, providing they have properly prescribed good quality
hearing instruments.
OK, so what’s the key word that each patient must
understand in their hearing rehabilitation? Patience!

What Is Integrative
Cancer Care?
By Corinne Lemal
Danielson, MPH,
CHES, Executive
Director
Integrative cancer
care enhances quality
of life for cancer
patients and their
families by integrating
proven therapies into
the usual course of
medical treatment and
empowers patients to be active participants in their
treatment plans. Integrative cancer care can help patients
feel better by reducing the pain, stress and anxiety
caused by cancer and its treatment.
What type of therapies does the Sari Center offer?
Our therapies include: acupuncture, healing touch,
hypnotherapy, individual and family counseling,
therapeutic massage, nutritional consultations,
lymphedema treatment, reflexology, caregiver services
and healthy lifestyle classes such as yoga, mindfulness
and guided meditation.
For what symptoms or side effects are these therapies
effective?
These therapies have proven effective for pain
management, anxiety, nausea, fatigue, neuropathy,
depression and sleep issues just to name a few. Also the
use of these therapies before and during treatment can
help patients complete their medical treatment regimen
as their doctor has prescribed.
If I needed these therapies why wouldn’t my doctor
have suggested it?
Integrative Cancer Care is not widely available in
many areas of the country. World-renowned cancer
centers such as MD Anderson Cancer Center, Memorial
Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and Dana Farber Cancer
Institute provide integrative care for their patients. The
Sari Center was modeled after their programs and has
been providing these services to cancer patients and
their families in our local community since 2008.
I am having surgery, chemotherapy and radiation to
treat my cancer…how can the Sari Center help me?
We have services designed to prepare patients
for surgery and recovery; to help maintain physical
strength and well-being, mental calmness and positivity
throughout treatment; and post treatment programs with
a focus on increasing energy and vitality and restoring
quality of life. We provide the support necessary to
develop comprehensive lifestyle changes that promote
physical, mental and emotional wellness.
For more information please call (561) 578-5900 or
visit the Web site saricenter.org. The Sari Center accepts
patients regardless of referring physician, type or stage
of cancer or economic situation.

independent and may decrease anxiety and depression.
It is important to talk with your doctor before starting any
exercise program. Take into account any medical problems
and start slowly so you will be less likely to injure yourself.
Remember to begin with low-intensity workouts and
gradually work your way up. Wear comfortable clothes, the
appropriate shoes for the activity, and be sure to drink plenty
of water before, during and after exercising.
There are three main types of exercises that you will need
to incorporate into your training program.
• Endurance activities, such as walking briskly,
swimming, dancing, bicycling and playing tennis, help boost
your heart rate and breathing for an extended period of time
and improve the health of your heart and circulatory system.
• Strength training, including using free weights,
resistance bands or weight machines, helps improve muscle
capacity and bone density.
• Flexibility and balance exercises through programs like
yoga or tai chi can keep your body limber and flexible and,
as a result, prevent fall-related fractures.
A well-rounded program will incorporate these different
types of exercise because each kind has different benefits.
Some form of aerobic activity is recommended for at least 30
minutes on most days of the week. Strength training should
be done two days per week, but avoid exercising the same
muscle group two days in a row. Don’t work out if you are
sick. Give your body time to recover after an illness, but
resume exercising as soon as you can.
Choose sports that you are interested in and suit your
lifestyle, budget and medical background. If you have knee
problems, you probably would want to avoid jogging but may
want to consider walking or water aerobics. If you are not
interested in being inside the gym, perhaps golf would be a
better choice. Golf helps strengthen hand-eye coordination,
tones muscles in the arms, back and shoulders, improves
flexibility and range of motion, and is a low-impact sport.
Tennis is another option for seniors because it helps maintain
aerobic fitness, reinforces gross motor control, increases
agility and enhances flexibility.
You will get the maximum benefit from an exercise
program if you work out on a regular basis. Make participating
in sports a priority, easy, safe, interesting and fun. As you
become more active, you will notice that you have more
energy, it is easier to do your daily activities, and chasing after
your grandchildren doesn’t get you out of breath as quickly.
Living with daily bone and joint pain can be unbearable for
many people. Your ability to move, work and be physically
active is related to the health of your bones, joints, ligaments,
tendons, muscles and nerves. When aches, pains, or serious
injuries compromise your ability to function in comfort, turn
to the Orthopedic Specialists at Palm Beach Gardens Medical
Center. Palm Beach Gardens Orthopedic Program cares for
patients requiring various levels of treatment.
Palm Beach Gardens Orthopedic Program combines the
experience of a focused, multidisciplinary team. This team
includes internists, anesthesiologists, orthopedic surgeons,
nursing, occupational and physical therapists. Together, with
the patient, the program will develop, collaborate and deliver
comprehensive care – from diagnosis through recovery. For

Trimming And Pruning Is Essential
By Gustavo Asp, President,
Magland Landscape
Design
Pruning is essential to
trees and ornamentals to
promote growth, health
in the plant and maintain
esthetics in its location.
Most important is trimming
and pruning properly. Some
plants are trimmed when
dormant and some as it’s
flowering. Certain ornamentals need to be cut back on an
angle vs. a strait cut. Some plants and trees require sealing
where cuts are made.
Ornamentals should be examined regularly for pruning.
If pruning is ignored, most specimens become overgrown
and often weak. At that point drastic pruning is necessary to
bring the plant back to usefulness.
Reasons to prune or trim plants:
• Maintain or reduce plant size – Pruning prevents a
plant from overgrowing its
space and eliminates the need
for drastic cutting of crowded,
overgrown plants.
• Remove undesirable

through the removal of weak,
overcrowded growth. Thinning improves the visual balance
or symmetry of the plant.
• Remove dead, diseased, or broken branches – Pruning
will aid in maintaining the shape, vigor and health of the
plant.
• Stimulate flowering and fruiting – Removal of the
current year’s old, faded flowers and fruit clusters will
promote flower buds for the following season.
• Rejuvenate and restore old plants – Proper pruning
can restore a youthful, natural growth habit in certain
overgrown shrubs.
• Prevent damage to life and property – Pruning will
minimize the hazard of limbs interfering with power lines or
overgrowing structures. It also removes weak crotches before
It is recommended to trim hedges on a regular basis to

limbs break in strong winds and open blocked sight lines
caused by overhanging limbs at driveways or street corners.
• Shape plants in an artificial form – Pruning and
shearing can be used to shape plants as hedges or for rigidly
formal espaliers or topiaries.
A tree may need pruning for a variety of reasons:
• to remove diseased or storm-damaged branches
• to thin the crown to permit new growth and better
air circulation
• to reduce the height of a tree
• to remove obstructing lower branches
• to shape a tree for design purposes
Once the decision has been made to prune, your next
decision is whether or not to tackle the job yourself. In the
case of a large tree where you want to remove big branches
in the upper area of the crown, it may be best to hire experts.
Large tree pruning, in particular, can require climbing
and heavy saws or even cherry pickers and chain saws.
This is a job that should be left to trained and experienced
professionals. Never compromise personal safety in pruning
a tree.
This is a great time of the year to trim and prune. It is
pre-hurricane, pre-rainy season and before the heat of the
summer growing season gets into full swing.

West Indies, Dividing Sea From Ocean ...

Running southeast from
Florida, in a gentle arc to
South America, is a group
of islands that enclose over
a million square miles of
the Atlantic Ocean. The
Caribbean Sea is separated
from the ocean by this chain
of islands that have a long
and varied history.
Recorded history in the area started with our friend
Christopher Columbus, who was credited with discovering
the islands; however, he thought that they were the Indies.
He still believed that until his dying day. It was only after his
death that is was discovered that Columbus didn’t discover
the Spice Island or Indies after all. Spain quickly named
the islands the “West Indies,” which automatically attached
“East” to the name of the chain of islands in Southeast Asia.
Comprising some 30 countries, the population of the West
Indies is estimated at 33 million people ... scattered over some
2,000 square miles of islands. The area is one of the world’s
greatest vacation playgrounds. Since the Second World
War, the West Indies name is used less frequently, being
replaced by “Caribbean” for identification. This renaming
of the West Indies captured four mainland countries, which
are considered part of the Caribbean ... Belize (formerly
British Honduras), and the three Guianas of South America.
British Guiana later became Guyana, Dutch Guiana changed
to Suriname, while
French Guiana’s
name remains
unchanged.
The sea,
enclosed by the West
Indies (Caribbean),
has its greatest depth
between Cuba and
Jamaica, where
it is 25,216 feet
deep. Five basins
divide the sea,
which are separated
from each other
by ridges or sills
in the ocean floor.
These are named

passes into the sea across two sills. The Windward Passage
is one sill. It lies between Cuba and the island of Hispaniola,
while the other, Anegada Passage runs between the Lesser
Antilles and the Virgin Islands. It is thought that at a point in
time around 500 million years ago, that the Caribbean was
connected to the Mediterranean.
About the time Columbus sailed into the “West” Indies
there were somewhere between 250,000 and a million native
people living on the islands. The most prominent of these
were the Arawak (Taino) and the Ciboney, they inhabited the
northern larger islands of the Greater Antilles, the Bahamas
and the Leeward Islands. These natives
were much easier for the Europeans to
enslave than the Caribs who dominated
the Windward chain of islands. All
feared the Carib ferocity and tribal
practices ... cannibal was derived from
the Spanish word, Caribal. The last of
these flesh-eating natives were finally
annihilated by the Europeans in the 18th
century.
As with most western expansions,
Europe had the major influence in
settling the West Indies. The Spanish,

French, British and Dutch played the major roles, not only
in the migration from their native lands, but also in the
depopulation of the islands’ native inhabitants. Each country
encouraged pioneer settlements and trade between island
nations. As a result, a new commercial interest grew in the
Caribbean ... piracy.
Portuguese Jews from Brazil expanded into Barbados in
the mid-17th century. Their goal was the development of
sugar, which became the “Brown Gold.” However, growing
the crop required an enormous work force. Slaves started
being transported from Africa at this time. It has been
estimated that 10 million slaves were transported to Barbados,
giving the island a population density greater than India.
Cuba on the north end of the chain is the largest of the
West Indies islands. It has an area of 44,000 square miles ...

it’s about the size of the state of Ohio. Most island territories
range in size from 100 square miles up. However, over 70
percent of the islands are tiny. Grenada at 133 square miles
matches the District of Columbia in area.
Geologically, the lands of the Caribbean fall into three
distinct landscapes. The Bahamas, Cuba, Belize and the
Yucatan peninsula, along with the Windward Islands,
Barbados and Antigua, consist of low-lying limestone
plateaus like our terrain here on the Florida Peninsula.
Extreme mountainous reliefs of the Greater Antilles
Mountains form another distinct landscape. Included with
this type of terrain are Hispaniola, Jamaica and Puerto Rico.
It is the younger set of volcanic mountainous islands that
identifies the last of the trio of landscapes. From Saba to
Grenada, through the Windward and Leeward islands the area
vibrates with earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. In 1902,
Mount Pelee destroyed St. Pierre on the island of Martinique,
leaving only one survivor ... a jailed prisoner celled far below
the ground where the noxious gasses of the eruption could
not reach him. Crime does pay! More recent eruptions on
Montserrat attest to the volatility of these areas. Still, the
boiling lakes, mud geysers and sulfur springs are promoted
as tourist attractions vs. reminders of the impending dangers.

unusual geographical boundaries. The Bahamas, which is

17-Year-Old Forms Turn Seven Motorsports
Professional Racecar Driver
Jason Fichter To Compete In
2015 Pirelli World Challenge
& Trans Am Series
Turn Seven Motorsports, LLC (Turn Seven) announced
17-year-old professional racecar driver, Jason Fichter,
recently founded Turn Seven Motorsports. Turn Seven
Motorsports is fielding two cars for the upcoming 2015
season. Fichter is one of the youngest professional drivers and
now may be the youngest owner of a motorsports program.
Commenting on his age Fichter states, “Age to me is just a
number. I’ve never asked my fellow competitors’ ages before
a race.” He continued, “After a race, the only numbers that
matter are the ones on the podium.”
Fichter began racing at 16 and in less than one year
secured his professional license. Fichter completed his 2014
season with 13 top-10 finishes, scoring fifth place overall,
in the Pirelli World Challenge. A member of Palm Beach
Jason Fichter
International Racetrack, Jason has made the pursuit of
personal and racing excellence his life’s mission.
A proud Christian athlete, this year he’ll graduate from
Jupiter, Florida’s, Jupiter Christian School. “As an owner, I
take responsibility for the details, big and small, that go into
competing and winning.” Describing his take on such a huge
task, Fichter states, “Holding myself accountable is key. I
want to be more than just a driver. I want to know how the
car works and how I can make it and myself better. ”
In 2015, Fichter continues his education as a full-time
student and on-campus resident of Palm Beach Atlantic
University a fully accredited Christ centered university in
West Palm Beach. Choosing to continue his education locally
allows Fichter to maintain his training and track regimen
uninterrupted.
Turn Seven Motorsports LLC was founded in 2014 to
support full-time the racing efforts of professional driver,
Jason Fichter. Turn Seven Motorsports currently features
two racecars campaigning in the Trans Am Series, 2015
Trans Am Championship Schedule and 2015 Pirelli World
Challenge. The program is committed to delivering optimally
race ready cars and a dynamic, memorable sponsor and
fan experience. Turn Seven makes both cars and driver
accessible and enthusiastically available to promote the
positive attributes of racing, the racing fraternity and race
organizers’ and sponsors’ brands. For more information on
Jason Fichter, contact Ceci Rezk at (561) 746-6077.

The Eastern Caribbean typically includes ports such as

make their voyages more meaningful and give cruisers more

Grace Notes Music Foundation Raises Over $23,000
For Makayla Joy Sitton Music Scholarships
The Grace Notes Music Foundation raised over $23,000 at
its Fourth Annual Carousel Concert-thon at Downtown at the
Gardens on Feb. 21. All proceeds from rides on the carousel
went to benefit the Grace Notes Music Foundation. Music
students from local music schools performed at Centre Court.
Student ensembles participated including C.A.S.T., Duncan
Middle School Jazz Band, Light House Suzuki Strings and the
Brad Schechter Studio. An especially exciting portion of our
program featured emerging young artists including Broadway
performer, Skye Alyssa Friedman and America’s Got Talent
finalist, Lily Forte. Featured professional groups included
the Fretmentor Bluegrass Group and the Phat Cats. Another
highlight was the “street musicians” lining the boulevard.
Restaurants, shops and local businesses donated items for
the silent auction. Local businesses and organizations joined
the fun for the new Marketplace Bazaar. The Grace Notes
Music Foundation was honored to receive a check from the
Makayla Joy Sitton Foundation. The need-based Makayla
Joy Sitton Music Scholarships are overseen by the Grace
Notes Music Foundation.
Grace Notes Music Foundation Inc. is a registered 501(c)
(3) nonprofit organization administering the Makayla Joy
Sitton Music Scholarships and providing 12 students with
music lessons. This event will help us to increase that number
in the coming year; the scholarships are the cornerstone on
which the foundation is built. In the past year, the community
outreach programming of the foundation has also blossomed
to reach even more children and teens.
• The foundation added the “Summer Scholar” Program
to provide summer band/music camp scholarships.
• The “Concerts for Classrooms” Program brings live, interactive music into local schools
and aftercare programs.
• The “Teen Team” donates countless hours of volunteer work and created a ukulele
ensemble known as the “Uke Group.”
As it grows, the Grace Notes Music Foundation’s mission is to provide exceptional music
education and performance opportunities for students from diverse cultural, ethnic, racial
and economic backgrounds and to sponsor community enriching music events.

Learn To Draw It For Added Distance
There are very few golfers who would not wish for more
distance off the tee. If you want to hit it longer, learn to hit the
ball with a draw using a right to left spin for a right-handed
player.
So, how is that achieved? The face of the club must be
slightly closed to the path of the swing at impact. In fact,
that is done through multiple choices, which can achieve the
wonderful draw shot.
My suggestions, at least in the set-up, are:
• Strengthen the lead handgrip, heel pad on top, with three
knuckles visible to you as you look down.
• Play the ball further back in your stance, and push your

hands more ahead of the ball than you are used to.
• Finally, you may want to pull your trail foot and trail
shoulder back from the line of play.
All of this is done at setup
before you even move the club,
so it should be within your
reach!
Should you need just a
little more help – on your
downswing, try to swing the
toe of the club to close slightly
over the ball.
Good luck.

Are Vitamins
Useful?
By Elaine Del Bene, owner, Jupiter Vitamins
I’m sure you’re as confused as can be about whether
vitamin supplements are good for you or cause harm,
since that’s what’s in the current news cycle these days.
My opinion, based on years of personal
supplementation and observance of my customer base,
is admittedly, somewhat biased. On one hand low-priced
supplements are not useful and sometimes harmful, and
on the other, high quality supplementation can really
improve the quality of your life. I have many customers
who will gladly testify to that.
Not every body has the same requirements as every
other. Your individual background, diet, age, activity
levels and goals will determine your particular needs.
The best diet can still have gaps in nutrient levels.
A good quality, food-based multivitamin is a good
place to start. Your particular system may need one to
balance and provide enough energy to get you through
your day, while others may need additional vitamin D
because they get no outdoor exposure, or a particular
form of “B” vitamins not usually available in the big box
stores. A bit of conversation will help clarify your needs,
and, of course, the best indicator would be how you feel!
The low cost items available in the grocery or big box
stores, will not provide the effect you’re looking for. In
fact some of those “energy” formulations can cause real
problems.
We’re almost all mineral deficient, but the wrong
forms of those minerals will not help, and may only serve
to “harden” your arteries, instead of helping to build
bones or helping you sleep. Come by, let’s talk about
what you’re currently taking and decide what you really
need out of that mix! 3755 Military Trail #B8, Winn Dixie

The King’s Academy’s 2015 Mane Event
Is A Sparkling Success!
The King’s Academy’s (TKA) 2015 Mane Event Dinner
and Auction was a record-breaking success thanks to the
generosity of so many who joined in the effort! On Saturday,
Feb. 28, more than 250 friends and families of The King’s
Academy came together for the school’s major fundraising
event of the year. The Mane Event, which raised more than
$376,000, was led by Co-chairs Michelle Collier, Lisa Gerardi
and Dana Wilkerson, along with an amazing leadership team.
The evening was a fun and lively culmination of months of
dedicated planning and the results are a tangible blessing to
the students and programs of The King’s Academy.
This year’s event, themed Denim & Diamonds was held
at the country club at Mirasol. Guests showed their support
by bidding on more than 400 unique silent and live auction
items including family getaways, entertainment events,
memorabilia and the wildly popular We Love TKA spirit
experiences. This year’s special project, Call to the Heart,
raised funds to assist with the implementation of a schoolwide science, technology, mathematics, and engineering
(STEM) program called Project Lead the Way.
All proceeds from The Mane Event support The King’s
Academy’s Annual Fund including need based financial
assistance, co-curricular programming, faculty development,
facilities improvement and technology.
Special thanks to Presenting Sponsors: Insurance Office
of America, Regal Paint Centers, Revan Racing, Equity Trust
Company, Joe and Ashley Maguire, Chuck and Ellen Hobbs
and Chuck and Diane Hanlon.
The King’s Academy is a nationally recognized private
Christian school serving approximately 1,300 students
from preschool through 12th grade and is accredited by
the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the

The Mandel JCC,
Boynton Beach Great Celebration
By Mindy Hanken, Mandel JCC, CEO and President
At the Mandel JCC, Boynton Beach, there is good reason
to celebrate – it’s the upcoming completion of the first phase
of its multiphase construction and renovation project. This
first phase included a brand-new great hall, new flooring and
ceiling tiles, a new classroom addition to the preschool, as
well as a newly renovated and more secure entryway. The
JCC welcomes members and guests to celebrate this exciting
accomplishment with The Great Celebration. C’mon over to
the JCC for several community wide, fun and free events.
On Tuesday, April 21 at 1:30 p.m., author, Elaine Freed
Lindenblatt will tell her story of her family’s restaurant on
N.Y. Route 17 in Stop at the Red Apple. The Red Apple
Rest was a legendary restaurant that served as a who’s who
of entertainment luminaries. For Lindenblatt, the Red Apple
was the “family room” across the road – one she shared with
over a million customers every year. There will be a chance
for a Q&A with Lindenblatt, a book signing and themed
refreshments.
The celebration continues on Wednesday, April 22 from 5
to 7 p.m. as we gather for a ribbon cutting and presentation
by The Mandel JCC Chairman of the Board, Ray Golden
and Chief Executive Officer Mindy Hanken. This will be
followed by the opening of our art gallery hosted by Claire
Levine and featuring the art of local artist, Bev Myers.
The Mandel JCC plays an important role in our
community’s health and wellness. A much anticipated and
always well-attended event, the 15th Annual Health &
Wellness Expo is on Thursday, April 23 from 9:30 a.m. to
12:30 p.m. In addition to complimentary health screenings

been accomplished and are eager for the community to step
inside and see what is in store for them.

Please Welcome
Heavenly Foot
Massage To Palm
Beach Gardens
At The Corner Of PGA
Boulevard And Central
Boulevard!
Julie Poos is the proud owner of Heavenly Foot
Massage and she and her business partner, Jim Geiger,
are committed to making “Heavenly” a special place
that you will want to come back to again and again and
bring your friends. So far this has been the case with
everyone that has come through their door! For your first
foot massage, mention this article and you will receive
a free sugar scrub on your first visit! They want it to be
a Heavenly experience for you as well.
Question: Why should someone consider having a
foot massage if they have never had one before?
Answer: In today’s society, we operate at such a fast
pace. The majority of us are on our feet for most of the
day and even for those of us that aren’t, we each are
affected by the stress collector ... the stress collector is
our body! Gone unchecked for too long, problems can
occur. Each of us collects stress throughout our day
and it gets stored up in our bodies. One of the easiest
and effective ways to relieve and release stress from
our bodies is to get a foot massage with reflexology.
Reflexology is a process where the pressure points are
massaged in our feet to relieve symptoms elsewhere in
your body.
If you have never had one, you are in for a surprise!
New clients that come through Heavenly’s door for the
first time, leave amazed wanting to bring back their
friends and family. Many of them buy a gift certificate
before they leave the spa for a family member (more
times than not … they buy it for their spouse or
significant other). That always makes Julie Poos smile.
She knows she is not in the marriage retreat business but
if it makes a marriage better and relieves their stress...
she is totally for it she says!
Julie Poos and Jim Geiger invite you to come visit
Heavenly Foot Massage and find out why so many
people are raving about it! They look forward to making
you a raving fan as well. They cordially invite you to
come experience a Heavenly Foot Massage for yourself.
Hence their name!

BallenIsles Charities Foundation Awards Local Charities
A Record $290,000 In Financial Grants
By Mark Hopkinson
Thirty area organizations with extraordinary local
community programs were awarded financial grants totaling
a record $290,000 by the BallenIsles Charities Foundation
(BICF) during a heart-warming charity reception earlier this
month at BallenIsles Country Club.
The “Helping to Make a Difference” financial grants bring
the foundation’s total charitable contributions made since its
formation in 2011 by residents and members of BallenIsles
Country Club to $865,000.
“We could not achieve the progress we have been making,
without the kind generosity of BallenIsles residents and
the local businesses which support our mission to help the
many worthwhile organizations in Palm Beach County that
accomplish great things on very limited resources,” said
BallenIsles Charities Foundation President Fred Corrado.
The financial grants include support for the purchase
by the Palm Beach Gardens Fire Rescue Department of its
first-ever, live fire simulator which creates a visual image of
a burning fire while eliminating costly and dangerous live
fire training. Palm Beach Gardens Fire Department Division
Chief of Training Shon Broedell demonstrated how the live
fire simulator can create a visual image of a burning fire
while eliminating costly and dangerous live fire training. The
state-of-the-art, waterproof digital live fire simulator creates
self-generated LED flames and has five thermal sensors with
realistic sound effects. The system also incorporates a smoky
environment with the use of a smoke generator. In addition to
training PBG Fire & Rescue personnel, the live fire simulator
will be made available to neighboring fire rescue departments
including North Palm Beach and Palm Beach County Fire
Rescue. It will also be used by both the Palm Beach Gardens
Boy Scouts of America Fire Explorer Post and PBG Reserve
Firefighter Division, providing realistic fire training to these
future firefighters, without putting them at risk. Palm Beach
Gardens Fire Rescue Chief Michael Southard, Deputy
Fire Chief Keith Bryer and Division Chief Shon Broedell
accepted the foundation’s financial grant on behalf of the
fire department.
The BallenIsles Charities Foundation financial grants
also support funding to Paws 4 Liberty for the adoption,
veterinary care and training of a military service dog for
veterans with disabilities. Paws 4 Liberty is one of few
nonprofit organizations in Florida using animal-assisted
therapy to help veterans achieve functional independence
and a better quality of life. Many returning veterans are being
diagnosed with PTSD, and the suicide rate among active duty
personnel reached an all-time high in 2012.
Corp. Joseph Rainey, a veteran of the Gulf War, Operation
Enduring Freedom (OEF) in Afghanistan, and Operation
Iraqi Freedom (OIF) in Iraq, also attended the reception on
behalf of Paws 4 Liberty, with his military service dog Tank,
a 4-year-old Golden Retriever.
The BICF financial grants also support the purchase of

computer aided design (CAD) software that will further enhance
the programs at Suncoast High School that have helped this
local public magnet school become academically recognized
nationally as one of the Best High Schools in America.
At Adopt-A-Family of the Palm Beaches, the foundation’s
grant will again provide school supplies, uniforms and
personal hygiene kits that will make it possible for some 200
children in need to attend school.
Clinics Can Help was again supported by a financial award
from the foundation. The nonprofit collects and redistributes
surplus medical equipment and supplies to over 1,200
financially insecure patients. The grant supports the purchase
of 12 adaptive transit strollers, used in place of a wheelchair.
Alzheimer’s Community Care received a grant from
the foundation that funds one full month of family nurse
consultant care and services. The Boys & Girls Clubs of
Palm Beach County received funding for an after-school
STEM program for one of two clubs in the program, while a
comprehensive dental care program for 60 children will be
made possible at Caridad Center.
At Eisenhower School the foundation’s financial grant
has funded a K5 iPad Cart to be used by the entire school as
needed.
Feed The Hungry will use the grant to provide 500 families
in need with a box of food, which includes meats and fresh
vegetables.
Also supported by a foundation financial grant was First
Tee of The Palm Beaches which will use it to provide nine
after-school sessions for 200 students. Grandma’s Place will
use its grant from the foundation to provide 650 hours of care
and educational support for children in crisis.
At Gratitude House, the financial grant will provide two
months of care for mothers and infants in treatment together.
The financial grants will also enable H.A.C.E.R. Ministry
Corporation to provide food to feed some 330 families. At
Habitat for Humanity of Palm Beach County, the financial
grant will fund a program with Seminole Ridge Construction
academy for home building for qualified recipients.
Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of PBC
received a grant from the foundation for the purchase of
four breast pumps and instructional kits for mothers in
need. Homeless Coalition of Palm Beach County will use its
foundation grant to purchase 25 beds to be used by families
in need who have obtained permanent housing.
The Palm Beach County Food Bank will use the
foundation grant to provide food for 160 families who are in
the weekend nutrition program. At Palm Beach Gardens City
Hall, the foundation’s financial grant will provide funding for
the BallenIsles Performance Series conducted annually.
Palm Beach Gardens Elementary will purchase 1,500
books for students while Palm Beach Gardens High School
will fund the annual college trip, so students in need have the
ability to visit potential schools. The Palm Beach Gardens
Police Department will use the foundation’s financial grant
to purchase infant/child car safety seats to be given to those
unable to afford them. The Renaissance Learning Academy
will purchase exercise machines with its financial grant,
for use by students with autism spectrum disorder. The
Renaissance Learning Center will use the foundation’s grant
to purchase musical instruments and equipment for use by
children with autism.
The Symphonic Band of The Palm Beaches will use its

Police Foundation:
Partnership With The
Community
By Tom Murphy
Scholarships: Do you know a high school senior with
dreams of going to college, a university or trade school
after graduation? Each year the Palm Beach Gardens Police
Foundation awards two $1,500 educational scholarships
to students who are pursuing their dreams and goals. The
scholarships are awarded based on academic performance,
community service, essays and personal references.
Applicants must be either a resident of the city of Palm
Beach Gardens or employed by or be the dependent of
persons currently employed by the Palm Beach Gardens
Police Department and must be seeking undergraduate,
graduate or technical studies at an accredited post-secondary
educational institution. More information on the program can
be found at the foundation Web site: pbgpf.org/scholarships.
The deadline for applications is April 15.
Gardens Cup: The Police Foundation is pleased to
once again be the presenting sponsor of the Gardens Cup,
which will be held at the
Palm Beach Gardens Golf
Course on Saturday, May 16.
The event is a two-person
scramble where participants
can play for fun or play to be
the Gardens Cup Champion Team! It’s a fun event open to
all levels of golfers.
The $60 entry fee ($110 per team) includes: breakfast,
lunch and a player gift bag with a free round-of-golf
certificate and other great items. Prizes for the longest drive,
closest to the pin as well as other prizes and a silent auction
will make for a terrific day.
To register or for more information go to gardensgolf.com
or call the golf course at 626-7888.
Auto Burglaries: The police department has seen an
increase in auto burglaries in
recent times … and needs the
community’s help to stop them.
Whether you are at work, school,
home, the gym or shopping,
please remember to remove
your valuables and to lock your
vehicle. Most auto burglaries
occur when the owners leave
valuables in plain sight and forget to lock their vehicle. The
thieves are targeting these vehicles and it only takes seconds
for you to become a victim.
About The Foundation’s Work
The Palm Beach Gardens Police Foundation was
established in 2007 by business and civic leaders as
an independent, nonprofit organization to promote and
improve public safety. The foundation supports programs
designed to help the police department keep pace with
the rapidly evolving equipment, training and technology
needs of law enforcement as
well as community outreach,
youth and crime-prevention
programs. The Palm Beach
Gardens Police Foundation
provides resources not
readily available through
other means – to date over
$300,000 has been invested
in innovative programs.
The partnership of
businesses and individuals
working with police officers
to enrich and support the
community makes our city one of the finest places to live,
learn, work and visit in South Florida. Please join us in our
important work by contributing as generously as you can.
Contributions to the Police Foundation are tax-deductible
under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
Remember, it takes a community effort to keep us safe.

Renovations At Abacoa Golf Club Are Almost Complete!
We’ve had a busy season here at Abacoa Golf Club, and
in more ways than one! The tee sheet is full, the driving range
is packed, and the Grille Room and outside bar are busy. Not
only are we enjoying a great season, we are finalizing our
renovations that will enhance the beauty and enjoyment for
all Abacoa residents!
The driving range renovation is finally finished! What
a huge project! The entire driving range was completely
overhauled including improved drainage and new mounds
and target greens which allow golfers the ability to judge the
direction and distance of their shots. We’ve also enlarged the
tee area and added Celebration grass, which produces a better
hitting surface.
Another exciting addition to Abacoa Golf Club is the
new Driving Range Building with an automatic range ball
machine. You can purchase four different size baskets of
balls with a credit card. For your convenience, you may also
purchase a Range Card, which has the additional value of
getting more balls for your money! All may be purchased at
the outside machine … from dusk till dawn … even when
the Pro Shop is closed!
We’ve made numerous improvements on the golf course
by employing better agronomy practices. As a result, we are
seeing much better playing surfaces throughout the course.
We’ve changed the layout of a few holes by adding some
new tees and all of our 80 bunkers have been renovated with
new sand. You’ll notice beautiful landscaping all around the
course including new trees, shrubs, flowers and shell rock in
the beds all designed to enhance the beauty and enjoyment
of the golfer.
Well, you asked for it … and we listened! Abacoa Golf
Club has an exciting new teaching program – The Abacoa
Golf Club Golf Academy. Warren Bottke and his new team
of talented instructors have taken the program to a whole
new level. Beginners or advanced, male or female, players
will find the right instructor who will fit their needs. Check
out the many things the Abacoa Golf Academy offers from
daily clinics, private lessons, Chip-N-Sip Ladies’ Program,
a new Jr. Golf Program and Jr. Golf Camps.
We didn’t stop with the renovations out on the golf course.
We’ve made major changes inside the clubhouse as well!
You’ll love the new look of the clubhouse with the new carpet,
glassed entry doors and inviting lobby seating. Our new tables
and chairs will be here any day to finish our new upscale look.
We have updated the bar in our Grille Room and have added
an outside bar on the patio. The drop down curtains on the
patio, along with the three new big screen televisions make it
an enjoyable place for lunch or happy hour any time of day,
any time of year. We’ve added complimentary hors d’oeuvres
during happy hour every day from 3 ’till close, so you can
sit back, have a cocktail and enjoy the view overlooking the
lake on the 18th green.
We are excited to be the place where all residents can
come and enjoy great golf and fine dining, a place to kick
back after work and enjoy a drink with friends, and a place
to host your special events. Come and check out all of the
new renovations and see how Abacoa Golf Club is once again
living up to its tagline of “Public Golf at its Finest.”
