Licensing MatLab
Start MatLab. A warning will appear about
license expiration.
You must enter the new
license code. The menu
to do this is under
“Help”
Select “Licensing” under the “Help” menu
Select “Activate Software” under the submenu
Select “Activate Automatically Using Internet”
and click “Next”
Login using the following credentials:
Email address: [email protected]
Password: Yates#1Lab
Then Click “NEXT”
Select the Default License for the Account
Then Click “NEXT”
Enter the following Activation Key:
55170-13935-93830-03299-26362
(number to left is an example)
Then Click “NEXT”
Confirm the code in the following screen to
complete the activation process.
Note: next time you open MatLab, you should
not see the expiration warning. If you do, go
through the activation sequence again.

Staff License
Matlab 2008 onward introduced an entirely new licensing scheme that is not backwards
compatible with previous versions of Matlab. You will need to perform a full install using the
Software Licensing Services DVD.
If you require a PLP or License file for an older version of Matlab, please make this request at
our office.
For a Windows, Macintosh or Linux installation
Follow the instructions below to activate your license:
Installation & Account Creation:
1. Choose “Install automatically using the Internet (recommended)”. This should be the
default option.
2. When you begin the installation, you will be prompted for your MathWorks login
information. If you do not yet have a MathWorks account, create one at this time using
the appropriate button.
3. IMPORTANT: The e-mail address you provide MUST be your [email protected]
address! You may NOT user other extensions, such as cs.pitt.edu or engr.pitt.edu!
4. When creating your account, choose ‘Academic Use’. Student Use will not correctly
associate with our MathWorks account and you will be unable to download updates. If
you created your account and selected Student in error, please contact our office or the
Technology Helpdesk and we can have your account corrected.

Matlab is now Licensed!
Please note that your installation of Matlab will expire annually on August 1st regardless of when
it is purchased. This license will require renewal for continued use thereafter. All purchases
made on or after May 1st may receive the new license at no cost, but you are responsible for
requesting it from our office.
