Widening, I‐75 over
Caloosahatchee River Bridge
Project included 4 to 8 lane widening of I‐75 between the SR 80 and SR 78 Interchanges. Work
included 8 bridge widenings in an extremely sensitive environment.
•
Key elements of the project included the widening of 8 bridges within the environmentally
sensitive Caloosahatchee National Wildlife Refuge including 2 high‐level fixed bridges over
the navigable Caloosahatchee River.
•
Innovative design and construction methods comprising “topdown”
topdown and accelerated bridge
construction (ABC) techniques allowed the DB Team to deliver the project $8 million under
the FDOT budget and 5 months under the original FDOT project schedule.

Dual bridges avoid
floodplain impacts and
provide wildlife
crossing.
Sinkhole influence mitigation:
• Ramp bridge spans high risk sinkhole
area.
• Added geogrid to mainline and
ramps pavements in sinkhole vicinity.
Considerations were taken for
wild turkeys that frequent the
adjacent natural lands.
Gopher frog safely
recovered from the
bottom of a burrow.
Juvenile Gopher Tortoise recovered from
