KEN OBERKFELL, MANAGER—First season
KEN OBERKFELL, MANAGER—First season A World Series champion, former Minor League Manager of the Year, and two-time Caribbean Series champion skipper will be manning the helm in Haymarket Park's third-base dugout next summer. After an extensive search, the Saltdogs named former New York Mets bench coach Ken Oberkfell their new manager in November 2012. Oberkfell helped the St. Louis Cardinals win the 1982 World Series as the starting third baseman, and played in the 1989 Fall Classic on the San Francisco Giants. The Saltdogs new skipper played 16 years in the Major Leagues, and finished his impressive career with a .278 batting average (including a .292 mark in eight years with the Cards). The 56-year old from Highland, Ill. most recently managed Leones del Escogido of the Dominican Winter League, where he had a wildly successful run after taking the reigns in the 2009-10 campaign. Oberkfell led the Santo Domingo-based franchise to two league championships and two Caribbean World Series titles in three years. In his rookie season as a Triple-A skipper in 2005, Oberkfell led the Norfolk Tides (Mets affiliate) to a division title and was named by Baseball America as Minor League Manager of the Year. Oberkfell concluded his playing career in 1992 after stints in St. Louis, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, Houston and California. After taking two years off he began his managerial career in the independent Northeast League, where he guided the Mohawk Valley Landsharks to a 47-23 record in 1995. "I'm very much looking forward to working with Ken and Dan on the field, and [VP/GM] Tim [Utrup] off the field. I really appreciate the opportunity to come here and be able to coach." Harris, a native of Portland, Ore., hit .258 with five home runs in 58 career games with the Angels. He posted a .308 batting average with 97 home runs and 562 RBI in nine seasons of minor league ball. "The American Association plays a great brand of ball, it is extremely competitive," Harris said. DAN REICHERT, PITCHING COACH—First season 2013 will be Reichert's first season as pitching coach for Lincoln. The 36-year old is a former first round draft pick out of University of the Pacific and pitched five seasons in Major League Baseball for the Royals and Blue Jays. Reichert played for the Saltdogs in 2007, going 7-5 with a 4.50 ERA. "I love the fans out here, the front office, they are some of the best in the country," Reichert said. "I'm very excited about getting this club together to win another championship." Reichert grew up in Turlock, Calif. but has made Lincoln his home since 2007. The right-hander played professionally for 14 seasons, including five years at the Big League level and 2011 in the Chinese Professional Baseball League. He played his final season in 2012 for Southern Maryland of the Atlantic League. "I've learned so many great things over the course of my playing career," Reichert said. "Now it's about passing on life lessons to the next generation while playing the game of baseball. I've really enjoyed mentoring the younger pitchers during my later playing days and am very excited about becoming the Saltdogs' pitching coach." 8 #xx JOE BISENIUS – RHP Ht.: 6-4 Bats: R Born: College: DOB: Wt.: 210 Throws: R Sioux City, Iowa Oklahoma City University February 19, 1986 CAREER NOTES: Signed by the Saltdogs February 9, 2013... played parts of two seasons in Major League Baseball (2007 for Phillies, 2010 for Nationals)... selected in the 12th round of the 2004 MLB draft by Philadelphia out of Oklahoma City University… CAREER MLB STATISTICS Year 2007 Age Tm 24 PHI 2010 27 WSN 2 Yrs 162 Game Avg.
