LEADERSHIP WEATHERFORD
COMING THIS FALL
The purpose of Leadership Weatherford is to build a network of community leaders
by educating the participants about community issues, challenges, resources and
opportunities. Not only will you get to meet and work with fellow members of our
community, but you receive in-depth knowledge about how our city, county, state
and local businesses work and meet the leaders that make things happen. Leadership
skills are stressed throughout the program along with making connections that will
be beneficial for years to come.
A mandatory weekend orientation retreat will kick off the program in September.
A significant commitment of time and resources are required of each member. The
return can be immeasurable no matter the class member’s profession, age or length
of time living in Weatherford. One half day each month is set for learning about the
entire community. The program will offer opportunities for class members to explore
with field trips and meetings with current leaders.
The kick off orientation will be Friday, September 26 - Saturday, September 27th.
Meetings will take place the first Tuesday of October, November and January - April.
Watch your Chamber newsletter for more information and registration. This class
will be limited so it will be first come, first served. This will be a commitment that
pays off!

One, and the rockin’ “red dirt” sounds of Stage Two will be
brought to you by Plains Capital Bank. The Diaper Derby
baby race will kick things off at the Children’s Stage, which is
sponsored once again by Lonestar Smiles for Kids.
Looking for a spot to cool off and rest your legs? Yesterday’s
will be open on York Ave. and other yummy eateries like The
Downtown Café, Big Johns and Fire Oak Grill will also be
serving delicious meals all day long. In the southeast quadrant
of the square, Back to Yesterday will be open and selling a
beautiful variety of home décor and gift items. Many other
boutiques and antique shops all around the square and down
York Avenue will be open and offering specials to entice
customers in to see their wonderful selection of goods.
First Financial Bank will once again host the Quilt Show
and Wood Chippers on the northwest side of the square. The
Firehouse Art Gallery will be open to display and sell pieces
created by our talented local artists.
Peach cobbler and ice cream are Festival favorites every year.
You will be able to enjoy both, as well as take a seat under
some shade, at a “Pit Stop” in the parking lot at York and
Spring Streets. Couts Methodist Church will be serving up
their famous homemade Peach Ice Cream and Festival Foods
of Parker County will be baking fresh cobblers all day long
at this location. Also serving their famous peach cobbler, the
Weatherford Optimist Club will be in their regular spot in the
South Food Court. Weatherford Regional Medical Center
will be set up in the North Food Court selling their delicious
Peach Juleps, a refreshing favorite for many! There will be
many other food vendors in both the North and South Food
Courts serving up a wide variety of goodies: BBQ, Bratwurst,
Jamaican grilled cuisine, kettle korn, funnel cakes, roasted
corn, schnitzel and fajitas, just to name a few!
In the July sun it will be important to stay hydrated while you
shop and enjoy the Festival. Free water will be distributed at
our Oasis Spots, located throughout the festival grounds. Our
sponsors for these include Bath Planet, Bailey & Galyen and
Home Depot. Home Depot will also have a misting fan to help
keep cool, and there will be many others located throughout
the Festival grounds. Or, make your way to First Baptist
Church on Palo Pinto Street – they will generously keep their
“Big Peach” Sponsors:
doors open for folks to cool off inside the air conditioned gym
and to use the restrooms.
Don’t forget about the annual Peach Pedal Bike Ride! With
more than 2,200 cyclists, this event begins at Weatherford
High School and offers several different routes of varying
lengths. Brent Baker and his crew at the Weatherford College
Foundation organize the Pedal and have built a reputation
as hosting one of the best bike rides around! For more
information, visit www.peachpedal.com or give Brent a call
at 817-598-6275.
Parking for the Peach Festival will be available at several
remote parking locations: First Monday Grounds, Weatherford
College, Weatherford Ninth Grade Center and Hall Middle
School. It is FREE to park at any of the locations and take
the shuttles directly to the gates of the Festival! Please note,
the First Monday Grounds will serve as a parking location
only – there will be no shuttle pickup/dropoff at this location.
Handicap parking is available at the north parking lot of the
Ninth Grade Center’s Football Stadium and in front of City
Hall. Thanks to Brilliant Medical Boutique, wheelchairs will
also be available to rent near the Main Entrance at Palo Pinto
Street.
The Peach Festival is a wonderful community event and it takes
hundreds of volunteers to make it all possible. Very special
thanks to all of those who help in any way before, during or
after the Festival. Donna Tillman and Terri Smith organize
and oversee all of the admissions booths for the Festival. This
is a huge task and they see to it that it all runs smoothly each
and every year. Brent Baker puts on a superior event with
the Peach Pedal Bike Ride. He has built the Pedal into such
an outstanding success that it attracts cyclists and spectators
from near and far. The list of volunteers goes on and on! We
sincerely thank everyone who gives their time to make this
event so great.

Texas Bank Hosts Gabe Vick Memorial 42 Tournament
Parker County folks take the domino
game of “42” very seriously. And why
shouldn’t they? The game was invented
right here! The third annual Gabe
Vick Memorial “42” Tournament will
commence at Texas Bank Financial
at 8:30 am on July 12th as part of the
Parker County Peach Festival.
Event organizer Dave Cowley, said
the registrations start coming in June.
“People want to get in, get registered
and know they’ve got a spot to play.”
Cowley said, 42 brings competition
to a whole new level. “You thought
the World Cup was competitive? It’s
got nothing on this game. It’s almost
as much fun to watch as it is to play,
we have contestants in their 20’s to
boys were not allowed to play cards.
The rules were tweaked and the game
eventually spread across the globe.
90’s, fathers and sons, mothers and
granddaughters. It runs the gamut.”
Garner friends William Albert Thomas
and Walter Earle are credited with
creating the game during the summer
of 1887 in Thomas’ family’s barn. The
game is based on a predecessor of 42,
Whist, and was formulated because the

MEMBERSHIP AWARDS 2014
Have you been to a local business and
received amazing customer service?
There is an excellent way to recognize
that business if they are Chamber
members. At the Annual Chamber
Banquet we honor the Large Business
of the Year, Small Business of the Year
and a Newcomer Business.
Large Business of the Year are for
businesses with more than 35 employees.
Small Business of the Year would have
less than 35 employees. The Newcomer
would be a business that has been in
operation less than two years. We can
all think of those businesses that have
gone above and beyond to make our
experience better.
Nominations must be from a Chamber
member for any business that is a
Chamber member. You need to write
at least a paragraph with reasons why
you nominated this particular business.
An independent panel of judges will
be interviewing the finalists in each
category. The information you provide
will assist in determining the finalists
so make sure you include as much as
possible on that business.
Weatherford has many outstanding
businesses. It’s your responsibility to
recognize them. Another award given
out at the Annual Chamber Banquet is
our James H. Doss Award. This is a
person that is a philanthropist first and
foremost. The recipient should be an
active member of the community. Once
again we ask that you write a paragraph
with reasons for the nomination.

August Breakfast
Before Business
The next Breakfast Before Business will
be Friday, August 8th from 7:30 – 9:00
am. Please join us at Bakers Ribs located
at 1921 S. Main St.
The
Weatherford
Chamber
of
Commerce has events and activities
going all the time. We want each
member to be active. You get out
of anything what you put into it; the
Chamber is no different. Networking is
important to any business. People like
to do business with people they know.
How do people get to know you? The
Weatherford Chamber understands that
business must come first but that is the
reason we have events and activities at
various times of the day. It’s important
for your business for you to have a
presence out in the community. What
better place than with the Chamber?
All members are invited to find a
committee to be active with. First is the
Business Development Committee with
Julie Lundy as chair. This committee is
responsible for the Sweet on Business
luncheon in February, other Seminar
Series luncheons during the year, the
Poker Run in October and Business
Bingo in November. They meet the
second Tuesday of each month at Cup
& Cake from 8:30-9:30. Second is our
Tourism Committee. They have taken
on a major project for the Spring of
2015. It will be “ART IN ACTION”.
All type of artists are invited to come
perform their art for competition. Look
for more details to follow. The purpose
of this committee is to bring tourism
to Weatherford, finding new ways to
promote our town and interest new
groups to come visit. They meet the
last Tuesday of each month from 8:309:30. This group moves from every six
months to a new location so check the
Chamber website for the location.
Weatherford continues to grow. With
this growth come new industry, jobs and
people. We want to connect all of these
together. Come get involved and help
make those connections.
There will be no cost for Chamber
members to attend thanks to our
generous sponsor, Bakers Ribs. As
always, you are encouraged to mix and
mingle with other members before and
after the program. Remember to bring
your business cards to share as you
network!
So that we may plan, please let us know
if you plan to attend by Wednesday,
August 6th. You can contact the
