About Sail Malaysia
The Sail Malaysia programme is owned and organised
by a private company registered in Malaysia,
SM Yachting Sdn. Bhd.
Sail Malaysia currently runs the 2 anchor yacht rallies
in Malaysia, known as the Passage to Langkawi and
Passage to the East, with ‘Discover Malaysia by Sea!’
as its tagline. This project is made possible with the
support from the Ministry of Tourism & Culture
Malaysia, Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board and 50
other pubilc and private organisations in Southeast
Asia and beyond.
Since its inception in 2005, Sail Malaysia have attracted
almost 1,000 yachts from 37 different countries to visit
the country, generating over RM 380 million in direct
income to Malaysia.
Sail Malaysia have strong ties with its partner
organisers in Austraia, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore
and Brunei. The overall strategic agenda is to flood
the region with leisure vessels and to create Southeast
Asia as the ‘Carribean of the East’.

Update 23 March 2016
WHY YACTHING RALLIES? Because that’s what the market wants
“Our sector (yachts/sailboats) of the market continues to benefit from what we now
regard as the ‘era of the Cruising Rally’.”
BERTHON MARKET REPORT 2014 (yacht broker)
Rallies are becoming more and more popular as a
means of travel:
“The tireless crusade of the World Cruising Club to
create an effortless and safe solution to the budding
blue water sailing continues unabated, with new rallies
such as the ARC+ and the Baltic Rally selling out almost
as soon as soon as they are announced. With a number
of new rallies starting up and wishing to share the
WCC’s space there is no doubt that taking part in an
organised blue water cruising rally has now become a
‘must do’ in the minds of many current and future
yachtsmen.”

This is a yachting rally which
covers the breadth of our
country.
The event is meant to unearth
the potential of Malaysian
waters as a boating paradise.
Much of our great cruising
destinations in the east and NOT
in the traditional
circumnavigation east-west
route.
The ‘Discover Malaysia by Sea!’
theme is used to project a
mental ‘sea highway’ from west
to east Malaysia.
