A Message from our President
We have been pretty busy the last few months at the Foundation. Thank you for
your donations to our annual appeal and for your support of our recent fundraising
endeavors!
Since our last “Cliff Walk”, Patient Services
Coordinator Debbie Bell, has been able to facilitate
45 grants, in the way of scholarships, heating costs,
vacation costs, rent payments and holiday expenses.
Recently in November, we assisted the Whalen
Family with vacation expenses. They took a
wonderful trip to Montreal to visit family and
celebrate a “Canadian style Thanksgiving”.
If you or someone you love is living with A.L.S. in
New England, please contact Debbie. She is a great
listener and resource. Please call our office 508-7599696 to speak with her.

a wonderful asset. Terry and her
husband, Mark, own Chalker Heating and Fuel of Cataumet, a full
service heating, cooling and fuel company.
We’ve also welcomed Jacqueline Tome and Corinne Wickel as new members to our
Board. Jacqueline Tome, a Comcast Technician from Fairhaven, has organized Danny’s
Run, a Motorcycle Run in Memory of her dad, Danny Perry of New Bedford for the past
5 years. Jacqueline says the reason she joined our board is
she “wanted to help others living with the same disease her
dad had and ensure that they are able to access resources
that weren’t available when her father was battling A.L.S.”
Corinne Wickel is from Mashpee and is the Owner/Broker
of Starboard Real Estate and also works with learning
disabled children at LIFE Inc. Corinne has been on our Golf
Tournament Committee for 3 years and became involved in
our cause after having lost one friend to A.L.S. and watching

As always, we are here to help. Please
help us get the word out about our
Foundation anyway you can. Feel
free to share our name and what
we do on Facebook, Twitter, on ALS
Message Boards and bring some of
our brochures to your support groups,
friend’s houses and doctor’s visits.

This coming May, Finn Westbrook, a young man from New Hampshire, will set out on a
cross country motorcycle road trip to raise much needed funds for The A. George Kerr
Patient Fund at our Foundation. Finn lost his grandmother, Helen Schumacher to the
disease on Valentine’s Day 2006, and wanted to do something to honor her and others
who have been struck by A.L.S.
Finn will make a stop at George “Papa G” Kerr’s favorite hangout, Archie’s Seabreeze in
Fort Pierce, FL on May 31st. Come on out and meet him if you’re in the area!

I chose the A.L.S. Family Charitable Foundation because they
are a very patient oriented organization. They fund research into
finding a cure or treatment for this terrible disease, but their
main focus is helping patients.

Our “Cliff Walk®” for A.L.S. Fundraiser is coming up on September 7th. If you’re living with
Lou Gehrig’s Disease or a caregiver for someone who is, you can help our foundation earn
donations (for your “Cliff Walk” team) from our friends at PatientsLikeMe.
PatientsLikeMe will SPONSOR your team!!!
WITH YOU EVERY STEP OF THE WAY
PatientsLikeMeInMotionTM
For the last few years, PatientsLikeMe has helped sponsor the Annual “Cliff Walk®” for A.L.S. Fundraiser, and this year they’d
like to help you and your team raise funds and spread awareness through PatientsLikeMeInMotion.
What’s PatientsLikeMeInMotion all about?
It’s all about giving back to the community – to everyone helping to raise awareness and funds for A.L.S. Since launching
in 2009, PatientsLikeMe has sponsored more than 254 teams and donated more than $57,500 to charities in the names of
people just like you. They also provide team t-shirts and more!
How can I get my team sponsored? (You have to be living with A.L.S. or a caregiver.)
It’s easy. Visit www.plmjoin.com/ALS and follow these three steps and you’re good to go!
1. Sign up for PatientsLikeMe
2. Complete your health profile to become a three-star member of the PatientsLIkeMe ALS Community
3. Submit your request for InMotion sponsorship Having three-stars means you’re a member of the ALS community on PatientsLikeMe that has an up-to-date health profile. The
real-world info you share is what’s helping drive new research and medical advancements that can help everyone living with ALS.
After you’ve signed up with patientslikeme, please email us at [email protected] and let us know!
