The Wizard of Oz
By Jesús López
I have been honored this year to play the powerful
Wizard in the school’s play the Wizard of Oz, and
even though the journey has been tiresome, the result is more than gratifying. This is an invitation to
all of our readers to attend the play this 28th, 29nth,
and 30th of March. The play is extremely entertaining, more than I thought it had the potential to be;
not only does it consist of incredibly powerful singing from our talented choir and energetic dancing,
but the play also includes many jokes and special
effects during some of the most animated numbers.
Personally I believe that the scene of the evil witch
will catch the audience by surprise...spoiling surprises is not my thing.

MY LITTLE ROMANTIC OBSESSION

Trova started in Cuba, in the 19th century,
when singers called Trovadores moved
around Oriente, especially Santiago de
Cuba, singing and playing classical guitars
to earn a living.
About the Trovadores:
To be considered as so, you must ALWAYS:
-Accompany yourself with a guitar (this
leaves out piano players, sorry)
-Sing songs that you or people like you
write.
-Deal pœtically with the song.

It is shown in many ways that the “ideal” type of a family is mom, dad and children. It is
pretty amazing having a dad to tell us to keep going and that we girls are princesses and
that boys are herœs; it is amazing to have a mom that tells girls how pretty they are and
how boys are growing up so fast, both of them tucking you into bed at night, and kissing
you good night… it is not always like that. Some of us have and live under what society
calls “single parents.”
Some people, like me, have only one parent. In this case, it dœs not matter if it is mom or
dad; they make a great effort raising you. Moms are usually the caring, tender-loving part
of the parenthood, while dad is the stronger authority who generally keeps control of the
house and in some cases he is the only economic support. What happens when you live
with only one of them? They have to make a dual role play, responsibility doubles, and
they still have to try not to make you feel empty.
An advice for all the people with just one parent; give them a break because they are
doing their best. Think that sometimes, they also miss the other person just like you; think
that economically, they have no other support but themselves AND also think that they
need to support you and your needs, so they can’t always please you with new clothes,
videogames or dresses. Furthermore, there will be even times in which they won’t be
home that much because they are working really hard to get bread and milk to your table.
Also, think that they are not overreacting when it comes to protecting you; you are their
family and they will always be worried about you, your future and your present. They are
doing it all for you.
As a daughter of a single mom (it wasn’t always like that, but I lost my dad at a very
young age), I’ve learned to keep up with her, to be patient and to understand how hard
school needs, food, shelter... and sometimes as teenagers, we don’t really see that, we

I’ve been Wondering
By Karla Medina
I have been wondering. I have been wondering about love. I have been wondering
about what love means at this age. I have been wondering about what this age means.
I have been wondering a lot lately.
kids; I have seen couples with problems; but they all have something in common: a
reason.
Couples are so different from each other but they all have a reason for being together;
it might be money, sadness, low self-esteem, and on rare occasions, the reason is love.
re time with, share joys and sadness, but at this age, what do we look for in a partner?
Are we looking for love or is it just company? We are looking for someone who un-
most of the times, we cannot listen when that someone has the same need; we are
looking for someone to share joy with and a shoulder to cry on during bad times, yet
we are not able to appreciate their happiness nor have the patience to be there in their
bad times. What are is it that we want?
You need to know that a relationship is based on giving and receiving: if you need advice,
you can expect advice AND also, be prepared if your help is needed in the future; if you
need support, you can expect support, just like you will need to be supportive later on;
if you need laughter, you can expect joy and also give joy; if you need love, expect it
and be willing to give it back.
I have been wondering what happens when that special relationship ends and your heart
is broken.
I have seen my friends cry, I have seen my cousins cry, I have seen many people cry
over love, claiming their heart has been broken. I still wonder how it works. I have always
thought that a broken heart is better than an untouched one. It will be all ugly and covered with patches, but at least it has experienced love. It has learned to carry on, and
every single scar in there means there was a time when you felt you could never pass
through that again. And here you are reading an essay by a very wondering girl.
I have been wondering a lot lately and I still have not received any answer from anyone,
nobody, not even from Google. But from all the wondering, I have learned several things:
that love is a verb more than a subject; that broken hearts are survivors and that maybe
I wonder too much.

Winter made me cold,
Spring made me sorrowful,
Forced me to look at the color of my passion,
Summer, burned with heat and depression,
But fall just made me lonely,
For the wind told me about you.
Your voice is carved into my conscience;
Your absence torments me,
