I remember my baptism into Christ as if it were yesterday. John Henley’s sermon that Sunday evening in Little, OK was on “Hell.” I Welcome & Opening Prayer was only 11 (nearly 12) but I wanted to respond during the invitation. I Brian Lamar Reading: I Thessalonians 1 started to leave the pew during the song, but my mother grabbed my Luke Reynolds hand and prevented me from making the walk to the front. 677 - Unto Thee O Lord When services were over my parents told me they thought I was 745 - A Common Love too young. After three hours of debate and talk they agreed to take 748 - I Keep Falling in Love With Him 531531-When the Roll is Called Up Yonder me back to the church building. Luckily a call to my grandpa Green helped us all to make the right decision. “Getting Ready: Our Condition” I was scared at first; but after a short talk with the minister, I calmed SPEAKER: Ray Reynolds 580 - Why Keep Jesus Waiting down. He reminded me that God loves us all and is not willing that 134 - Oft We Come Together any should perish (II Peter 3:9). Then he took me to the baptistery and Lord’s Supper baptized me in front of my Bible class teacher, parents, and my brother. 134 - Oft We Come Together I was so excited after being baptized that I called my grandparents, my Offering extended family, and friends. I told everyone that I was saved from 698 - I Love You Lord my sins and was a new person. I even took a book the preacher gave Closing Prayer me to school the next day and showed it off! Don Tassin To be honest, I really had no idea all that was in store for the next Serving on the Lord’s Table: few months, but I was glad to be in Christ. It was exciting to have a Luther Mixson, Harold Hannah, fresh new start on life. However, soon after my baptism I began to Lex Moore, Luke Retherford, wonder about the purpose of my baptism. I wondered if I was too Bob Way, Ken Wilkerson, young. I wondered if I should have waited for my grandpa to drive up Michael Hahn, Charles DeLoach from Brownsville, TX to do it. I wondered if I knew enough Bible. I PM Worship wondered if my confession and repentance were adequate. You may Announcements— Announcements—Brian Lamar have asked yourself the same questions. Song Leader— Leader—Emera Lang We are extremely blessed to have the Holy Scriptures. There are Opening Prayer— Prayer—Frank Hughes “Unveiling the Church at Philadelphia” many great passages to help us to understand God’s will.
