WE DO
PERSONAL.
Welcome to Catawba
“It’s practically impossible to fall
through the cracks at Catawba.
College life, no matter where you
go, is largely what you make of it,
but here you are given some of
the best opportunities to make
your education something truly
unique and memorable.”
REBECCA ACLIN ’16
Therapeutic Recreation, Bowie, MD
BRIEN LEWIS, President of Catawba College
“One of my favorite things to tell people about Catawba
is that you can’t cross campus quickly. Theoretically,
you get from one beautiful end to the other in just 10
minutes. But in reality, it takes a lot longer because you
run into so many people you know and who know you.
Combining traditional liberal arts with professional
programs in a supportive environment, Catawba offers
the best of what you can expect to find at a larger
university within a personalized setting.”
01
“Students go above
and beyond to be
accepting and open to
everybody — diversity,
race and religion.”

WE DO EMPOWERMENT.
Incoming freshmen often have
two main concerns:
1. Will I make friends?
2. Will I succeed in college classes?
Our First-Year Experience (FYE) program makes
sure the answer to these questions is YES!
At Catawba you can discover who you truly
want to be. This starts early with the Freshman
Retreat where incoming students get to know one
another, meet faculty and begin developing into
successful college students.
You’ll also participate in an FYE seminar course
teaching you college survival skills and supporting
your college transition.
WE DO
PREPARAT
WE DO INDIVIDUALIZED LEARNING.
Whether you’re interested in accounting
or worship arts, athletic training or popular
music, environmental studies or sports
communication, Catawba develops your
critical thinking and communication skills
while preparing you for life after college.
04
Making Connections
SCHOLARSHIP IS PART OF OUR
MISSION. WE OFFER:
70+ programs in Arts & Sciences,
Business, Education and Performing Arts.
14-to-1 student-to-faculty ratio and
small, discussion-based classes.
Supportive faculty who know you
personally and believe in your potential.
The opportunity to customize your
own major.
“When you leave the
Freshman Retreat, it’s like
you already have close-knit
relationships. There’s a bond
you make that carries on to
Catawba and into life.”

WE DO HONORS.
Our Honors students don’t just cover material
faster or learn more of it. Our program gives
bright, motivated students a specialized experience
engaging with fascinating topics.
Learn more. Collaboratively taught interdisciplinary
courses are developed specifically for Honors students
(such as Death and Dying, Music and Oppression, or
FrankenFoods).
Travel more. Students are subsidized on trips to places
such as Chicago or Washington, Greece or Germany.
Pay less. Apply for specialized academic scholarships!

WE DO STUDENT SERVICE.
Volunteer Catawba connects students with
community projects and mission trips.
Every student organization participates in
service each semester.
Each class year spearheads a community
service initiative annually.
The annual Duck Draw raises funds to feed local
families at Thanksgiving.
Prepare shoeboxes stuffed with holiday gifts for
children of developing nations.
Athletic teams give back too. Imagine the football
team ballroom dancing with senior citizens!
WE DO
LLENGE.
WE DO PRACTICAL.
It’s important that you leave Catawba
prepared for your future.
Athletic training students work hands-on with athletes
from the start!
Business students earn experiential learning credit
through internships.
Chemistry labs are crammed with equipment for
hands-on experimentation.
Popular Music students are onstage performing,
running the soundboard or managing the band
from day one.
Sociology students work in the community, research,
publish articles and present at conferences.
Theatre students don’t just perform. They get
involved backstage too.
Whatever major you pursue, you can expect practical
experiences applying your classroom learning at Catawba.
