Chamber Unveils New Look!
There’s a new
look for your
Chamber and
it follows
closely on the
heels of a
series of new
accomplishments
for our 82-
year old business organization.
The new look is represented by a fresh logo
and corporate image recently approved by the
board of directors.
The chamber has gained a lot of favorable
press and comments lately after showing a onethird rise in membership over the previous year
and greater attendance at its monthly events.
In recognition of such accomplishments,
Kasey Cronquist, the chamber’s young executive
director, was awarded a prestigious honor last
month by a regional business publication.
Cronquist was named as one of the outstanding
“40 under 40” business leaders for the Puget
Sound area.
The new logo has been overseen by the
Chamber’s marketing committee in large part, and
consists of an elongated dark blue oval wrapped
with a large “C” containing a white outline
representing the Olympic Mountains. The main
colors are blue and dark red with white lettering.

President’s Message

Hope everyone is having a great summer. The weather has
been very conducive to camping, RVing, hiking, and all other outdoor
activities. This, of course, has increased the number of visitors traveling
along Highways 3 and 101 and subsequently through Mason County.
Many of our members have benefited by these travelers and will pass
along their earnings to others in the community throughout the year. We
continue to encourage our Chamber membership to keep their dollars
here, with local merchants. Shop Local should be on everybody’s lips
and in their hearts.
Networking among members really does work! We all know that
we have to be competitive with outside forces, but if the local business
is within a reasonable amount as compared to their competition, why
not go with the Chamber member?? If we make a conscience effort to
bring our considerable personal and business purchases to other
Chamber members, we become stronger as a group and less
dependent on the fluctuations of the economy. The Shelton Mason
County Chamber of Commerce membership list contains every type of
business you will ever need at home or at work. Check it out before you
go for bids or head out to Olympia for your shopping needs.
Just a reminder to keep supporting Music in the Park-It’s been a
huge success this year with attendance overfilling the park. Not only is
the music great, but it’s really fun to visit with all your friends from the
Chamber and others.
Also, the Auction Committee is just about ready to get out there
to solicit your donations. Be thinking about what unique product or
service you can offer up for auction.
Executive Director’s Report
By Kasey Cronquist
A big “thank you” goes to all 43 of you that filled out
our trial survey. I believe this tool will continue to be essential
for our growth and direction as an association and for our
community as a whole. Of the 43 participants, 100% agreed
to participate in any further surveys we send out. I attribute
that to the ease of use and minimal time it took to fill out. If
you didn’t respond this time around,
please take the time next time to
respond so that we can better serve
you and your interests. You will find a
sample of our results in the back of
this month’s issue.
I also wanted to thank those
of you that referred businesses that
you believe would benefit from our
association. I have already been
contacting and meeting with those
owners and business leaders. Our association’s strength
comes in numbers and every member makes a difference.
Please contact me anytime if you know of a person or
business that you believe should or would like to join the
Chamber.
I am proud of the marketing committees work on the
new Chamber logo. I believe this logo has a timeless look
that will take the association well into the future. Special
thanks go to Mark and Linda Woytowich of Woytowich/Greer
Advertising and Design for their extra time and effort to
create a thoughtful design that represents us well. We are
currently wrapping up the design and preparing to print our
new membership plaques, so if you haven’t paid your dues,
get those in! You will be proud to display our newly designed
membership plaques in your storefront and office.
We are preparing to begin work on our next
membership directory and community profile. This was our
most popular publication last year and received a
tremendous amount of positive feedback. Lawton, the
publishing company, was even using it as an example at their
trade shows! This is a great “member’s only” opportunity!
I hope to see all of you at this month’s “After Hours.”
The Morehouse’s home is perfectly designed and located to
provide for a classy and productive networking event. Join
me on the deck for a summer drink!

“Sudden Oak Death”
What is it?
Recently the Washington State Dept. of
Agriculture released a basic fact sheet regarding an
invasive plant disease that poses a threat to
Washington’s based
businesses that rely on
a healthy environment
and native plants. The
disease known as
“sudden oak death”
attacks more than 60 plant species, many of which
our native in Washington, such as camellia, Douglas
fir, evergreen huckleberry, kalmia, madrone, pieris,
rhododendron, etc.
“This disease is certainly a potentially major
issue within our industry,” explains chamber member
Bill Schauer of Brother’s United. “We are waiting for
further explanation and research, but in the
meantime we are cooperating with the State to find
a solution.”
The disease has recently been discovered in
California and Oregon nurseries, but has yet to be
found in a nursery in Washington. The Washington
State Department of Agriculture first detected the
disease in 2003 and has since implemented the
most aggressive nursery survey program in the
country in an effort to find and eradicate infected
plants.
For more information regarding this issue,

This year’s recipients will be honored during
a public, no-host luncheon to be held

who contribute to the business community beyond
the call of duty. Individuals are, or have been, a part
of the business community and are outstanding in
the community because of their past or present
involvement.
