The 10ball
of SAFI ball valves may be provided with a lateral hole on the upstream side to
vent the ball cavity in the closed position. This is recommended to avoid trapped pressurized
fluids and avoids accidents with chemicals which tend to decompose, producing gases such
as hydrogen peroxide.
3 way Valves
Three-way ball valves are available up to DN100, with L-Ball, double L or T-ball.
Available in manual and actuated options.

ABS was introduced in 1948, it is a tough and durable
general purpose thermoplastic material, it is widely
used in industrial applications including safety hard
hats, automotive parts, computer keyboards and
VDU’s.
Due to its lightweight and high impact strength
it has proven ideal for rigid pressure piping
systems. Its solvent cement jointing system
makes it a popular choice for many industries as
installation can be carried out without the need for
special tools or equipment.
It has a wide operating temperature range which makes it the material of choice for many
water treatment, reverse osmosis, pure water, cooling and distribution systems. ABS remains
ductile even at low temperatures (usual precautions should be taken to avoid freezing).
Acrylonitrile : provides good thermal and chemical resistance properties.
Butadiene : adds good impact strength and durability.
Styrene : gives a glossy finish for great flow characteristics and makes for easy machining.
Torque figures quoted are based upon cold water
at 20 deg C. For dry or aggressive torques may
increase, contact SAFI for details.

The actuated Solution
The SAFI ABS double union ball valves have been engineered for long
term reliability and include all the design features of our industry
proven corrosion resistant GRPP and PVDF ball valve ranges. SAFI
valve spindles are designed to be used in conjunction with electric and
pneumatic actuators and include a metal re-inforcing pin to reduce the
possibility of valve spindle failure.
The modern industry requirement for automated systems requires more
actuated valves. SAFI design engineers have incorporated moulded
actuator mounting points and embedded stainless steel thread inserts
to ensure maximum reliability and avoid failure associated with clip on
plastic mounting kits.
SAFI valves have been designed to have reliable low operating turn
torques. Our injection moulded balls are heat treated, then precision
machined to an accurate sphere. When used in combination with our
precision moulded and energised PTFE seats they provide an exceptional
smooth operation.
We mount our actuators using corrosion resistant metal mounting
brackets to ensure that the energy produced by the actuator is harnessed
to open/close the valve, this minimises the stress being transmitted to
the valve body and reduces the spring associated with plastic mounting
kits.
Coloured Handles
SAFI have been supplying industrial thermoplastic valves to customers within the chemical industry
since 1963. We have developed a system of colour coding our valve handles to allow customers to
easily identify which of our range of chemical resistant seals has been fitted.
Our ball valve handles are manufactured from GRPP (Glass reinforced Polypropylene) a robust material which provides excellent resistance to impact, frost and UV light. Various designs are available
including extended lengths and lockable options.

Note that the following information is for guidance only and refers to the O ring seal material, for chemical
resistance of all valve construction materials contact SAFI technical department for details.
Red : EPDM
Green : FKM
Blue : NBR
-EPDM (Ethylene propylene diene methylene terpolymer) : drinking water grade EPDM approved for contact
with potable water for human consumption.
-EPDM Grade 60 (Ethylene propylene diene methylene terpolymer) : a quality EPDM suitable for hydrochloric acid at all concentrations near room temperature and may aqueous chemicals. Only affected by strong
oxidisers and oils.
-FKM (Vinylidene fluoride hexaflouropropylene copolymer) grade 73 or Viton B601C: A good grade of fluoroelastomer superior to Viton A. Suitable for sulphuric acid < 70%, and any concentration of hydrochloric
acid. Not suitable for caustic soda. Also sensitive to polar solvents such as ketones, and sulphides.
-NBR (Nitrile butadiene rubber) Sometimes referred to as Buna N, synthetic rubber compound generally
resistant to aliphatic hydrocarbons for service in petroleum oils, air, water, mild acids, acetylene, kerosenes
can be attacked by ozone, aromatic hydrocarbons, ketones, esters and aldehydes. Used in marine environments for water where oil may be present.
Tamper proof handles
SAFI double union valves can be provided with engineered anti tamper locking devices. Our heavy duty locking systems are for use with industry standard.
