Chemoprophylaxis is recommended for all travelers: altitudes below 2,400 m (7,900 ft) in most of the country
(see map) except for visits which are strictly limited to Allied air bases (Bagram, Jalalabad, Kabul, Kandahar, and
­Shindand); all cities and towns within these areas except the central urban areas of Kandahar and Bazarak.
Chemoprophylaxis is recommended for certain travelers (see Issues to Consider inset): altitudes below 2,400 m in
portions of some southeastern, southwestern, and northern provinces (see map) except for visits which are strictly
limited to Mazar e-Sharif Air Base; all cities and towns within these areas except the central urban area of Kabul.
Insect precautions only are recommended (negligible transmission is reported): altitudes below 2,400 m in portions
of Jowzjan, Faryab, Farah, and Nimroz provinces (see map); all cities and towns within these areas; the central
urban areas of Kabul, Kandahar, and Bazarak.
No protective measures are necessary (no evidence of transmission exists): visits which are strictly limited to Allied
air bases (Bagram, Jalalabad, Kabul, Kandahar, Mazar-e-Sharif, and ­Shindand); altitudes above 2,400 m; all other
