Sanderia Faye
Sanderia Faye was born and raised in Gould, Arkansas. She is the author of Mourner’s Bench (University of Arkansas Press, September 2015) that was recently nominated for the Hurston/Wright Literary Award. Her work has appeared in various literary journals and in Arsnick: The Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee in Arkansas, edited by historians Dr. Jennifer Wallach and Dr. John Kirk. Faye is co­founder and fellow at Kimbilio Center for Fiction. She moderated a 2015 AWP panel and the grassroots panel for the Arkansas Civil Rights Symposium during the Freedom Riders 50th Anniversary. She is a recipient of awards, residencies, and fellowships from Hurston/Wright Writers Conference, Eckerd College’s Writers in Paradise Conference, Callaloo Writers Workshop, Vermont, Writers Studio, The Writers’ Colony at Dairy Hollow, and Martha’s Vineyard Writers Residency. Faye is also a PhD student in English at North Texas University. She received an MFA in Creative Writing from Arizona State University, MA in Aesthetic Studies from the University of Texas at Dallas, and a BS in Accounting from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. She was an instructor for The United States Navy­Navy College Program for Afloat College Education (NCPACE). James Babb
James Babb is an award­winning historical fiction author who lives in Arkansas with his wonderful wife and two kids. He's an avid outdoorsman and cancer survivor. His books have won numerous national independent awards and The Arkansas Historical Society recently honored him with the Susannah DeBlack Award for the best book in Arkansas history for young readers. Janet B. Taylor
Janet B.Taylor is the debut author of the "INTO THE DIM" SERIES. Traveling extensively to those places where her novels are set, Janet often roams around at night to commune with the famous historical figures about which she loves to write. She is a member of many writing organizations, including the SCBWI, ArSCBWI, and the Historical Novel Society. Janet lives in Bryant, Arkansas with her Prince Charming, two hilarious sons, and Dorda the diabetic dog, who won't win any beauty contests, but has a “nice personality.” An Arkansas author, (and Quality Manager for the UAMS Radiology Dept.), Janet has visited many schools, speaking and presenting to a wide variety of teens all over the country. Maria Hoskins
Maria Hoskins has served as Community Outreach Specialist for the Federal Government for over 14 years and has been employed in the field of community outreach for over 25 years. During her tenure in federal service, she spent ten years as the Senior District Staff for Arkansas 2nd Congressional District Congressman, Vic Snyder, until his retirement in January 2011. She is a native of Mayflower, AR and a graduate of Philander Smith College where she received a B.A. in English and Communications. She is married to Archie, has two children, Christina and Victoria, and is an active member of the Palarm Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Mayflower. Dr. Nancy Hendricks
Dr. Hendricks is an award­winning author whose previous book “Senator Hattie Caraway: An Arkansas Legacy” was recently named by Cosmopolitan magazine as one of the “Twenty Political Books All Women Should Read.” She is the recipient of a Pryor Award for Arkansas Women’s History, Arkansas Governor’s Arts Award, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution ‘Women in American History Award,’ and the White House Millennium Award. Carla Killough McClafferty
Carla Killough McClafferty is the 2015 inductee to the Arkansas Writer’s Hall of Fame. Her award winning nonfiction books have been recognized for excellence by being chosen as the IRA Book Award winner, Orbis Pictus Honor Book, SLJ, Booklist and BCCB Best Books lists, Junior Library Guild Selections, and starred reviews in Publishers Weekly, SLJ, BCCB, and Booklist. She is a sought after speaker who has presented programming at national and international venues including ALA, ASLA, NCTE, NSTA, Mount Vernon, Colonial Williamsburg, Yorktown Battlefield Visitor’s Center, The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, U.S. Consulate in Marseilles, France and many more. Her books for young readers include Fourth Down and Inches: Concussions and Football’s Make­or­Break Moment, Tech Titans, The Many Faces of George Washington: Remaking a Presidential Icon, In Defiance of Hitler: The Secret Mission of Varian Fry, Something Out of Nothing: Marie Curie and Radium, and The Head Bone’s Connected to the Neck Bone: The Weird, Wacky and Wonderful X­ray. Zach Bliss
Zach Bliss is an Arkansas native and former Razorback who's become an award­winning screenwriter and children's book author. Zach currently resides in his hometown of Fort Smith, AR where he's continuously reaching out to filmmakers (unsuccessful so far...it's hard) and elementary schools to go read his book and engage young minds with hope, the importance of having scruples, and a fearlessness to follow their dreams.

Lindberg C Presenters: Sanderia Faye Audience: All Standards, Frameworks, and Curriculum Alignment, Content (K­12); Arkansas History With characters as vibrant and evocative as their setting, Mourner’s Bench is the story of a young girl coming to terms with religion, racism, and feminism while also navigating the terrain of early adolescence and trying to settle into her place in her family and community. Mourner’s Bench portrays real­life historical Arkansas individuals whose participation was vital to the march to freedom. The novel explains the conflict between rural southern church members and African American women who took leadership positions in the movement. It was important for Faye as a native of the region where the novel is based, to accurately portray Arkansas Delta women who challenged societies’ norms to improve life for future generations. ❖ Ignite Social Media with Library Happenings 1:00­1:50

Lindberg A/B Presenter: Nancy Hendricks Audience: All Content (K­12); Arkansas History Arkansas women shined in the national spotlight, blazing trails in civil rights, politics, science, and the arts. How many do you know? Based on acclaimed new book published by Butler Center Press, “Notable Arkansas Women: From Hattie to Hillary, 100 Names to Know.” They faced off against the business world, bias, and the Creature from the Black Lagoon. One Arkansas woman was single­handedly nominated for the Pulitzer Prize, Tony Award, and three Grammys. Their stories are inspiring, uplifting and as diverse as our state. Convenient sample lesson plan/activities, suggested discussion questions, and comprehensive quiz are also included in the book. ❖ George Washington’s Legacy: Online Resources 2:00­2:50

As the LMS, we need to be able to share outside resources for our students­ what better way than a tour of George Washington's Estate to make a student feel as if they are there! Kittyhawk North Presenter: Janet B. Taylor Audience: Middle, Secondary Building a Collaborative Learning Community Young readers may admire us, the YA and MG author. In fact, when you attend a Teen book festival where their favorites are in attendance, you'll see that affection turn to wide­eyed wonderment and idolization. Thing is, we authors know the 'secret identity' of the book world's true superhero. When we make our bows and curtsies, it is to you, the school librarian. We know that you are out there, fighting the good fight day after day. In a world where texting and the video game are emperor and king, you all somehow keep teens and middle graders coming back, year after year. This session­­viewed from a YA author's perspective­­both gives school librarians the kudos they deserve, and includes ideas on how to incorporate visits from YA and MG authors, as well as insights to help gain and keep kids interested in our books. Due to the size of our group, tours of the Hillary Clinton Children’s library will be broken into smaller groups. ​

, of which he's recently had a manuscript rewrite implemented, and he believes it truly takes the cake. He will discuss the different virtues and values stressed in the book, and the importance of children reading about and learning these tools at an early age. Zach has read at numerous elementary schools, and hopes to read at many more. Enterprise Presenter: Jane Jones­Schulz Audience: Elementary Standards, Frameworks, and Curriculum Alignment This summer (July 28) marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of famed children’s author Beatrix Potter. In addition to her beloved Peter Rabbit stories, Potter was a scientific illustrator and early land conservationist. To highlight her sesquicentennial birthday, the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission (ANHC) has developed educational materials and programs that use the story of Potter’s life to introduce facts about the mushrooms and lichens she illustrated, the struggles of women to be recognized in science and publishing, links to art and nature, and the importance of safeguarding public lands. Participants will receive a 17­page educator's guide. ❖ Confessions of a Reluctant Reader 9:15­10:05

We know having a library and an effective library program fosters student achievement. However, articulating the value can often prove more difficult than just saying, “We know it works". Kittyhawk North Presenter: Rachel Ellis, Event Coordinator & Community Educator Arkansas Attorney General’s Office Audience: All Parental Involvement Digital You is a comprehensive, interactive educational program created by AT&T and Common Sense Media to offer tools, tips, apps, guidance and community education events for people of all ages and levels of online experience to learn more about how to have a safe and secure online experience. Digital You was officially launched nationally in August 2015. Parents will be given information about managing device usage, staying safe online, handling issues like cyberbullying and online reputation and protecting devices. Nikki D. Robertson​
is a veteran educator, librarian and Instructional Technology Facilitator for James Clemens High School. She is passionate about 1:1 Digital Initiatives, collaboration with other education professionals, and assisting students in becoming well informed, critically thinking digital citizens. Nikki is the [retired] co founder of EdCamp Atlanta, a free “un­conference” committed to reaching educators in public, private, charter, and higher ed environments to share innovative instructional strategies and pioneering technologies that transform education for all students. She coordinates the #TLChat LIVE! Twitter Sessions the 2nd Monday of each month which provide a forum for school librarians to discuss current teacher­library topics. Nikki also produces and co anchors a LIVE Internet show presented in news show format featuring a Wrap up of “This Month in School Libraries” and deeper discussion of topical school library issues with special guest experts. Cassandra Barnett​
has been a school librarian for 37 years in both elementary and secondary school libraries. She has presented at state and national conferences on a variety of topics concerning school libraries. An active member of the American Association of School Librarians, she has served on committees both in ALA and AASL, been a member of the AASL Board of Directors, and is a Past­ President of AASL. She is currently the Program Advisor for School Libraries at the Arkansas Department of Education. Rachel Ellis​
, of Little Rock, is the Event Coordinator and a Community Educator in the Public Affairs Division of Attorney General Leslie Rutledge’s office. An Attorney General’s Office employee for over a decade, she discusses topics relevant to today’s youth. A graduate of Lambuth University in Jackson, Tenn., Ellis enjoys spending time with her husband and 2 daughters. ArASL 2016 Presenters
Jane Jones-Schulz​
is the Outreach Specialist for the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission, the state agency responsible for cataloging Arkansas’s rare plants and animals while conserving what remains of the state’s original landscape. She recently served as editor for the fourth edition of The Natural Divisions of Arkansas and has developed curriculum materials on diverse subjects such as the ecology of Hot Springs Natural Park and the natural history of Arkansas’s role in the Louisiana Purchase. She has worked in various fields of environmental education for over 30 years, serving as Director of Education for the Arkansas Museum of Science and History, and as Director of the Arkansas Natural and Scenic Rivers Commission. She received a BA in biology from Hendrix College in Arkansas and did graduate work in primate behavior at the Yerkes Regional Primate Research Center in Georgia. She has served on the board of the Arkansas Environmental Education Association and is a member of the National Association for Interpretation. Stony Evans ​
is a library media specialist at Lakeside High School in Hot Springs, AR. He received his Library Media and Information Technologies degree from UCA. Matthew Windsor ​
is the humanities librarian for Hendrix College, a small liberal arts school in central Arkansas. He completed his MS and MSIS at Drexel's College of Computing & Informatics . He is currently researching the balance of competing interests: security, privacy and freedom for library services. Jill Heard​
has been in education for 18 years and has served 14 of those years as a library media specialist. She is a member of TIE Cadre, part of the Schools Without Walls (SWOW) group, and is a Google Certified Teacher. Jill renewed her National Board Certification in 2015. Lori Bush ​
has been in education for 20 years and has served 14 of those years as a library media specialist. is a Library Media Specialist at Bismarck High School. Sally Hawkes​
has worked in libraries in Virginia, Pennsylvania and Illinois in various positions ­ School Librarian, Reference, Adult Services and Children's Librarian. She has been with the Arkansas State Library for 30 years. Her main responsibilities are the Traveler Database Project and ASL Web Master. She has also written 11 novels under the pseudonyms of Sally Falcon and Sarah Eagle. Tracy McAllister, Ed.D.​
has been an educator for 28 years and involved with School libraries in Arkansas since 2000. She is a past Chair of the Arkansas Association of School Libraries and a former President of AAIM. She is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Central Arkansas and Director of Faculty Development at the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine at Arkansas State University. has been teaching for 23 years­ secondary science for 7 years and as a school librarian for 16 years. Currently she serves as the Greenbrier Middle School LMS and is an adjunct faculty member of UCA in the Department of Leadership Studies in the Library Media & Information Technologies program. She is completing a doctorate in Instructional Design and Technology through the University of Memphis.
