Finding a Career That Makes an IMPACT

This inspirational and motivational workshop is an introduction into the world of chiropractic, nutrition,
and sports health science and the endless possibilities that individuals can pursue in order to have a
career and life of their dreams based on natural health. Dr. Dawn will guide students to define their
purpose in life and how to make an impact on the world by living a life of their dreams while creating
miracles for themselves and others.
Vaccines, DNA, and Women in Science!
Young Women in Bio Atlanta - Jennifer StetlerM104
This workshop will showcase 2 of YWIB interactive demonstrations on how to solve outbreak of measles
and extracting DNA from strawberries. What’s the big deal about vaccine workshop will focuses on
herd immunity and give the students a chance to solve a case study on a measles outbreak. The DNA
workshop will allow the student to extract DNA from strawberries and learn more about Dr. Rosalind
Franklin, whose work was crucial for solving the structure of DNA. The last few minutes of the workshop
will be focused on getting student excited about a career in STEM and especially women.

This workshop will be reviewing the prevalence of strokes in the United States and the major stroke
syndromes. It will also cover how to recognize a stroke and the pattern of symptoms for either ischemic
or hemorrhagic strokes. Once someone can recognize a stroke, getting them to a treatment facility that
can administer tPA is very important. tPA reduces disability for a stroke patient and that is great because
stroke is the number one cause for disability. Lastly, you will be going over risk factors and emphasizing
the importance of taking action with the modifiable factors.

need of blood donations is and why individuals should donate, and who can donate to who. Learn about

HOSA and MRC: Partners That Can Soar

The Georgia Department of Public Health will present its’ volunteer programs: the Medical Reserve Corps,
Georgia Volunteer Health Care Program, and the State Emergency Registry of Volunteers in Georgia.
These programs are an integral part of the agency and assist in expanding our resources to improve the
quality of life and health of the residents of our community. Participants of this workshop will learn the
benefits of volunteering in Georgia as well as how to become a part of Georgia’s Volunteer Programs. The
HOSA and MRC workshop will provide the students with the history of MRC and explore ways they can
collaborate with both Public Health and their local MRC’s.

using student volunteers as if they are the clients.
In this workshop, you will get to explore the pathologies that can be seen with X-Rays. Prepare to be
wowed by the amazing things you will see and by the simple fact that X-Rays are good for more than
broken bones.
Open Heart Surgery

This is an overview of the process of open heart surgery. This workshop explains the specialty areas and
skills required to work in the surgical setting. Participants will have the opportunity to see and touch real
surgical tools used in the Operating Room.

All conference attendees, including advisors, family, chaperones and guests are required to abide by
dress code at Georgia HOSA Events. When attending Opening and/or Awards Sessions, non-student
conference attendees must be in Business Attire, as outlined in the Georgia HOSA Dress Code. Any
conference attendee not abiding by dress code will not be permitted to attend or participation in official
HOSA conference activities.

Casual tank or tube tops, t-shirts, sweat pants/shirts, or tennis shoes are never acceptable.
•
Clothing that works well for the beach, yard work, dance clubs, exercise sessions, and sports
contests is NOT appropriate for HOSA events, meetings, and conference sessions.
•
Clothing that reveals too much cleavage, your back, your chest, your stomach or your
underwear is not appropriate for HOSA delegates.
•
Clothing should be pressed and never wrinkled. Any clothing that has words, terms, or
pictures that may be offensive to HOSA delegates or guests is unacceptable.
•
Open-toed shoes and heeled sandals are permitted with Business Attire. Flip-flops and Toms
are not.
