I am very pleased to announce that on April 16, we celebrated a truly
historic and long awaited moment at our Jesuit Retreat House – the groundbreaking event for
our new addition and the renovation of our existing building. The above reading speaks well
to our journey of planning, dreaming and hoping since the turn of this century. With gratitude
for our 118 year legacy, we now seek to build this vision for our time, that we may better
serve more people with the gift of Ignatian spiritualty with which we have been so deeply
blessed.
We are very grateful for the generous support we have received towards our goal since
launching the silent phase of our capital campaign at the end of 2014. We will now move
forward with our public campaign and look forward to sharing more information in the
coming months. We need your prayers and contributions to fulfill and sustain this vision
for generations to come.
God be with you,

Accused of Adultery, and the
Good Samaritan. We will
celebrate Mass each day,
confession will be available,
and there will be ample time
for quiet prayer and

Youth Sports and Human Flourishing
Presented by Fr. Patrick Kelly SJ
Morning Program
Resources for Coaches, Athletic
Directors and Physical Educators
9:00 a.m. - Noon Cost: $25
Fr. Kelly will provide a historical and theological overview
of Catholic engagement with sports, including a discussion
of why sports were initially included in schools in the
western world. He will then discuss the “flow” experiences
many people report when playing a sport – of being fully in
the present moment, a loss of consciousness of oneself, a
sense of growth, a sense of being part of something larger
than themselves, and an altered sense of time. These
experiences can help us to
understand how youth sport
participation is related to human
flourishing and spiritual values.
Coaches and AD’s from
Catholic, public and private
schools are welcome.
Being in the Zone in Sports and in Life
Presented by Fr. Patrick Kelly SJ
Evening Program
For Team Members and Coaches
7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Cost: $20 (Call for team discount rate)
Many young people who have played sports have had the
experience of “being in the zone,” when they are fully
concentrated, not thinking about themselves, aware of their
connection with teammates and when time seems to fly by.
In this talk, Fr. Kelly will discuss the human significance of
such experiences and their relevance for the spiritual lives
of young people and the choices they will make in life.
Team members and coaches from all schools are welcome.
Fr. Patrick Kelly is a Jesuit priest of the Midwest Province
and associate professor of theology and religious studies at
Seattle University. A former all-conference college football
player, he is the author of Catholic Perspectives on Sports: From
Medieval to Modern Times and the editor of Youth Sport and
Spirituality: Catholic Perspectives . He gives lectures and
workshops internationally about sports, spirituality and
theology.

Since 1898, the grounds of Jesuit Retreat House have provided spiritual peace for people looking to deepen their
relationship with God. Now, perhaps more than ever, the sacred space of JRH is a vital gift to Northeast Ohio.
Contemporary men and women make silent retreats for various reasons. Some are searching for a deeper way of
knowing God that is personal and real. Others use this time to rest in the creative heart of God, to imagine new
possibilities, or to sit with gratitude for God’s magnificent work. Whatever your reason for making a retreat,
sacred silence is a gift to the soul. Here, you will experience silence on 57 acres of woods and meadows,
complete with outdoor shrines and stations of the cross. The retreat house provides a home away from home
with three chapels, a library, and home-cooked meals. As a companion on your journey, your spiritual director
will offer guidance based on Ignatian Spirituality. We invite you to open yourself to the inspiration of a retreat!

Lay Leadership News
JRH Lay Leadership Outreach to
Churches, Schools, and Non-Profits
Are you seeking a Parish Mission, a retreat for your Board or Church Council?
Over 2,000 people across NE Ohio have attended in the
last ten years - some reflections on these retreats:
One of the best experiences I have ever had at
this parish. People truly shared from their hearts.
I am glad to have had this opportunity to recall
and reflect on God’s love.
Pastors have this to say:
People were very energized and found the retreat
challenging, new, different and enriching.
Our most popular programs lead 30 or more
retreatants through prayer and Scripture to know, love,
and serve Jesus Christ more fully.
Choose between:
 a four session introduction or
 an eight week retreat in daily life.
Both are based on the Spiritual
Exercises, the spirituality of Pope
Francis.
This retreat left my parishioners with a taste of
Ignatian spirituality and hungry for more!
Lead your people deeper - through more prayer and
spirituality in action:
Ignatian Foundations introduces prayer,
discernment, and action for justice –
includes a day-long retreat.
Our Called and Sent programs address more focused
needs of contemplatives in action – offered to twelve
or more people:
Discernment and Decision-Making applies practical
knowledge and Ignatian discernment of spirits.
Encountering Jesus Christ through
Ignatian Gospel contemplation – includes a
day-long retreat.
The Christian at Work in the
World has two tracks: Catholic
Social Teaching or Workplace
Spirituality.
Living Prayer Retreat-in-Daily Life
centers on personal prayer, spiritual
direction, liturgy and the sacraments.
Embracing the Mystery of
