AZA Automotive Manufacturing
Sdn Bhd, the manufacturing arm
of the Naza Group, celebrated
the production of its 150,000th vehicle
recently.
“Naza Automotive Manufacturing has
indeed come a long way since 2004.
Today, the cars we produce are on the
streets of Bangkok and Jakarta,” said SM
Nasarudin SM Nasimuddin, joint group
executive chairman of the Naza Group
of Companies.
“Soon we will export them to
countries in Africa and Oceania.”
Deputy Minister of International Trade
and Industry, Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir
commemorated the 150,000th vehicle
produced at NAM.
The Naza plant in Gurun began
operations in May 2004 and rolled out
its first vehicle in August 2004.
Nasarudin said Naza Automotive
Manufacturing has produced 18 models
at the plant since the commencement
of its operations seven years ago.
These models are the Ria, Citra,
Sorento, Spectra, Suria, Bestari, Forza,
Sportage, Spectra 5, Optima, Rondo,
Pregio, Picanto, Forte, Peugeot 407,
Peugeot 308, Peugeot 207 and the
Peugeot 3008.
At present, the following models –
Forte, Pregio, Citra, Rondo, Peugeot
407, Peugeot 308, Peugeot 207 and the
Peugeot 3008 – are assembled.
Naza Automotive Manufacturing,
which is now undergoing a RM714
million upgrading and expansion
exercise over a six-year period, began
operations in 2004 at its RM500 millionassembly plant.
The plant, which is located on a 140-
acre parcel of land, has a test track.
For 2012, the Gurun plant is targeting
to produce 30,050 units. For this year, it
is on track to producing 15,640 units.
On the export front, Naza Automotive
Manufacturing, has been exporting
Peugeot 207s to Thailand and Indonesia
while the Kia Pregio van assembled at
Gurun is being exported to Indonesia.
From 2012, Naza Automotive
Manufacturing, will ramp up exports
with the assembly of a new C-segment
Peugeot sedan that has been dubbed
”T73”.
Naza Automotive Manufacturing will
produce 60,000 units of the T73 over
a five-year period ending 2016 with
approximately 60 per cent of the units
produced to be exported to right-hand
drive countries in Asean as well as
markets outside the region.
OVER 100 owners and guests attended
the Peugeot Customer Day seminar
at the Hard Rock Hotel in Penang on
Sept 24.
The Penang event comes after
encouraging turnouts at the Ipoh
Peugeot Customer Day in May and the
Discover 3008 seminar in Subang in
March.
These seminars are Nasim’s after-sales
initiative to provide Peugeot owners
with a deeper understanding of their
vehicles. They are aimed at providing
Peugeot owners with an in-depth
understanding of their vehicles as well
as essential maintenance tips.
“It is essential that our customers get
the very best out of their vehicles,” said
Dato’ Samson Anand George, COO of
Nasim.
The first-half of the two-hour long
seminar in Penang was devoted to
a briefing on the features and safety
aspects of Peugeot vehicles.
The session also included a briefing
on the various benefits of being a
Peugeot Privilege member as well as
Nasim’s network expansion plans.
In the second-half of the seminar,
participants were taken on an
interactive workshop walkabout where
they were given tips on maintenance
and the proper method for carrying out
a tyre change, manually releasing the
handbrake, jumpstarting a flat battery,
re-programming their keys, checking
engine oil, power steering and coolant
levels.
Among the vehicles on display for
the workshop walkabout were the 207,
308 Turbo, 407, 3008 and the 5008
MPV.
Each participant went home with a
Peugeot gift bag containing exclusive
Peugeot merchandise and vouchers
from Peugeot Privilege merchants.
A total of 100 customers took part in the two-hour long seminar.

3008 HYbrid4
THE Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4, the world’s
first mass-produced diesel hybrid vehicle,
won the 2011 Öko Globe’s “massproduced sustainable energy car” award.
The jury chaired by the professor
of economics and automobile expert,
Ferdinand Dudenhöffer, handed down its
verdict on Sept 6. The jury recognised that
“Peugeot is the first carmaker to couple a
diesel engine with an electric engine”.
Peugeot’s iOn had won the new
generation electric car award at the 2010
Öko Globe awards.
Organised since 2007 by the Ökoglobe
Institute of the University of DuisburgEssen, in partnership with the DEVK
insurance firm and the AVC automobile
club, the prestigious annual Öko Globes
(Ecological Globes) event recognises
technologies and concepts that help
reduce the car’s environmental footprint
or offer innovative mobility solutions.
With the diesel hybrid, Peugeot has
come up with a technology that enables
a significant reduction in CO2 emissions.
“The faster we control the consumption of
our vehicles, the more effectively we will
combat global warming,” the jury said.
By launching the world’s first massproduced diesel hybrid vehicle in the
last quarter of 2011, Peugeot is rolling
out a ground-breaking offer in terms
of environmental services and driving
sensations.
On the 3008 HYbrid4 crossover, the
hybridisation of a 2.0 HDi FAP 163 hp
diesel engine driving the front wheels and
an electric engine with a capacity of 37
hp on the rear axle enables reconciliation
of a new kind of drivability, thanks to the
four-wheel drive.
The HYbrid4 also gives a maximum
power of 200 hp, a “zero emission”
mode and average standardised fuel
consumption starting at 3.8 l/100 km
(99 g/km CO2), which is a 35 reduction
reduction compared to a combustion
engine of comparable power.

ENGINEERED TO BE ENJOYED
HE HX1 concept car gives Peugeot
the opportunity to once again
illustrate the marque’s ability to reflect
on new ideas, learn how to evolve and to
continually reinvent itself.
The brief for this concept was to
produce a vehicle for up to six people,
offering strong styling, that is sporty and
efficient and at the same time giving a
unique driving sensation.
To achieve this, the HX1 transcends
the notions of adaptability in all areas,
with its extreme aerodynamics (“flaps”
are deployed to optimise aero efficiency
according to vehicle speed), its tapered,
low MPV architecture and its HYbrid4
power plant integrating “plug-in”
technology.
To meet specifications, the HX1 has
been designed with MPV architecture
with unique dimensions: low (1.373m) and
wide (1.990m overall) and with a length of
4.954m.
This allows for a volume suited to pure,
elegant and sleek lines that delivers a low
Cd figure for maximum overall efficiency.
The passenger compartment is
structured so as to offer maximum comfort
for the two passengers in the rear row and
maximum sensation for the occupants of
the first row.
If required, two retractable seats can
be configured in a centre row due to a
clever system of “pull-out seats”, based
on the same principle used on the HR1
Concept Car (unveiled at the 2010 Paris
Motor Show); these additional seats are
integrated behind the front seats.
Designers have taken aerodynamics to
the extreme with HX1. When stationary
and at low speeds the HX1’s styling makes
it appear sculpted from a solid form as
the moving parts have been adapted to
optimise air flow and to enhance the car’s
environmental performance.
The vehicle has a Cd of 0.28; an
outstanding value for a vehicle with an
MPV silhouette. All of these aerodynamic
devices have evolved thanks to the free
rein given to the immense creativity of
Stylists.
At the front, the HX1 enhances
PEUGEOT chose the 2011 Frankfurt
Motor Show that opened on Sept 1 to
open reservations for its special 508 RXH
Limited Edition numbered series in the
network and on the Internet across 12
European countries.
All 300 units of the second full hybrid
diesel vehicle in the Peugeot range were
snapped up in just three days, a highly
promising start for the 508 RXH that will
be delivered as of spring 2012.
The 508 RXH combines a standout style
with drivability and high environmental
standards: 200 hp, four-wheel drive, fully
Peugeot’s latest design identity. The theme
of a unique “floating” front grille, which
appears “detached” from the bodywork has
been designed to harmonise with the car’s
tapered lines.
The precisely carved feline headlamps
give it an appearance that is evocative
of the marque’s badge and history: the
lion, proudly displayed on the front of the
bonnet. An LED lighting signature, easily
recognisable in the daytime or at night,
refines this look.
This visual signature is also found in the
rear lights, the boomerang shape of which
follows the lines of the rear design. Under the bonnet of the HX1 the
engine is a 204 bhp, 2.2 litre HDi diesel,
linked to an automatic six-speed gearbox;
the same power train as that used on the
508’s range-topping GT version. Coupled
with a 70 kW (95 bhp) electric motor,
the combined output can develop a
potential 220 kW (299 bhp).

Nasim Sdn Bhd, will continue its
network expansion with the launch of its
dealership in Kota Kinabalu.
The dealership in Kota Kinabalu which
is owned by Angkatan Hebat Motor Sdn
Bhd will comprise of a showroom and a
separate 2S centre for after-sales services.
Angkatan Hebat was appointed as
Peugeot’s sole dealership in Sabah in
June.
Following Kota Kinabalu, Nasim will
launch a new 3S dealership in Sungai
Petani in November. The new outlet will
cater to the growing demand for Peugeot
cars in Kedah and the Northern Region.
With both the Kota Kinabalu and
Sungai Petani outlets, Nasim will nearly
have representation in every state in the
country.
Later in December, Nasim also plans to
launch a new branch in Penang as it aims
to boost its sales there.
These new outlets follow an earlier

its position as environmental leader in the
years to come. The HX1 therefore takes us
one step further. It is equipped with “plugin” functionality: plugging in the vehicle to
a standard 240V mains electric socket can
recharge the lithium-ion batteries.
This means that it can have a longer
“ZEV” range ie it can go up to 30 km in all
electric drive mode. The HX1 thus obtains
a combined fuel consumption of 3.2-litres
per 100 km with CO2 emissions of 83 g/

Miss France gets an early ride
THE delightful Laury Thilleman, Miss France 2011, has already had a chance
to appreciate the Peugeot Cycles’ new offering.
The beautiful Laury has been getting around the Paris on a Peugeot
Nexus 7 electrically assisted bicycle since she was elected Miss France in
December 2010.
Laury is helping Peugeot promote its new Peugeot Cycles 2012 range
featuring bicycles tailored to each individual, that have been designed by
the Peugeot Style Centre.
Peugeot Cycles
excites with over
50 models
THE new Peugeot Cycles range, following
its world premiere at the Eurobike show
in Germany on Aug 29-Sept 1, took the
centre stage at the Paris Cycle Show held
on Sept 16-19.
This new offering reaffirms Peugeot
Cycles’ status as a major player on the
global and sustainable mobility segment
with its partner Cycleurope, the leading
European bicycle manufacturer.
The Peugeot Style Centre teams
that designed the new models have
embraced modernity without shunning
its past.
The range is based around the
following five percepts:
Collection: Mobility and style to suit all
tastes
Legend: Authentic, legendary, timeless
Allure: Pure and essential, a personal
urban experience
RS: Athletic, balanced and efficient
Design Lab: Exclusive design, a wealth of
materials, something of a rarity.
These percepts cover models for all
types of use and to make it easier to
choose, they are grouped together in
seven usage categories: e-Bike, Urban,
Trekking, Sport, Junior, Road, Mountain.
Peugeot has been involved in the
industrial adventure of two-wheeled
transport for a long time.
It was 130 years ago when Armand
Peugeot first suggested to his brothers
that they start manufacturing bicycles, a
logical outlet for their original sector of
activity, namely metal work.
Today we are witnessing the return
of the bicycle to our daily lives but few
realise that it is thanks to the trusty old
bicycle that Peugeot has grown into the
global carmaker that it is today.

For Malaysian Peugeot Enthusiasts
Neuville makes It a
grand slam in San Remo
W
HEN it matters, you can count
on the Peugeot 207 S2000
drivers.
The Peugeot 207 S2000 drivers
won three of rallying’s most famous
events that were featured in the
2011 Intercontinental Rally Challenge
calendar.
Thierry Neuville burnt rubber night
and day over three days place to take
the Rallye Sanremo title last week, the
ninth round of the Intercontinental
Rally Challenge. This was Peugeot’s
third straight win in the Italian classic
that was held over the narrow and
undulating roads above the glamorous
Italian Riviera town of San Remo.
This was Neuville’s second win of
2011 after the Tour de Corse in May.
Peugeot’s first win the season came
at January’s Rallye Monte-Carlo when
Bryan Bouffier took the podium.
It didn’t take Belgian duo Neuville
and his co-driver Nicolas Gilsoul long
to avenge their narrow defeat at the
Mecsek Rallye in Hungary that ended
on Sept 11 where their late comeback
bid failed where Hungarian Mecsek
Rallye and his co-driver Petr Starý held
on to win by just eight-tenths of a
second.
The scenario was practically identical
at San Remo but this time the Peugeot
Belgium-Luxembourg came off
resounding winners.
“It really wasn’t easy,” said Thierry
at the finish. “Last night, I dropped
something like 15 seconds because of a
brake problem.
Thierry now
stands at second
place in the
provisional
IRC drivers’
standings.
“Thankfully, the balance of my
Peugeot 207 S2000 was as near to
perfect as it could be and I was able to
keep up the chase by pushing it to its
limits.”
Neuville and Gilsoul were effectively
fastest over four of the five stages
contested in the course of Leg 2, and
this allowed them to gradually bridge
the gap that separated them from the
lead with one stage remaining. They
eventually went on to take the win, 1.5s
clear of Andreas Mikkelsen.
Neuville’s win pushes him up to
second place in the provisional IRC
drivers’ standings.
“With Bryan Bouffier and Xavier
Panseri coming home in third place,
Thierry’s victory puts us very much
back in the frame for both the Drivers’
and Manufacturers’ titles,” noted
Frédéric Bertrand, the manager of
Peugeot Sport’s customer competition
department.
“This is a win to savour.”
Bertrand said Thierry who is only
23 has provided eloquent glimpses of
his maturity by showing his ability to
overcome personal limits in his quest
for victory.
“Peugeot has set itself the objective
of winning the year’s three ‘prestigious’
fixtures on the IRC calendar and,
thanks to Thierry and Bryan, we have
succeeded in clinching a nice ‘grand
slam’ in San Remo.”
Peugeot wins at Silverstone
SÉBASTIEN Bourdais and Simon
Pagenaud combined performance and
consistency to guide their Peugeot
908 No 7 to victory in the six Hours
of Silverstone after yet another
sensationally fast race.
This third race win of the season for
Team Peugeot Total, combined with
the eighth place claimed by Franck
Montagny and Stéphane Sarrazin
(Peugeot No 8), takes Peugeot one
step closer to a second consecutive
Manufacturers’ title. On such a quick track and with 48
competitors racing Team Peugeot
Total’s first goal was to avoid the
slightest incident in order to ensure
both cars made it to the end of the
race, was
Unfortunately, at the start of the
race, the Peugeot No 8’s hopes of
victory faded when Montagny clashed
with a backmarker. He had to come
into the pits to change the upper front
left wishbone and the splitter.
The team reacted quickly and the
stop only cost nine laps. From that

to select the best eight entries with
exception to the final draw in January
turned into a long fight to make up
ground, which eventually saw them
finish eighth.
Bourdais and Pagenaud refused to
be intimidated by their direct rival.
Without making the slightest error, the
two men returned to the pits only to
change tyres and fill up with fuel.
“It’s a great win,” said Olivier Quesnel,
Peugeot Sport Director. “Once again,
both our cars made it to the finish and
we scored two more points than our
main rival.”
