Trip: Tiger Shark Expedition
Destination: Bahamas
Liveaboard: M/Y Dolphin Dream
Shark Dive up close
Situated north of Grand Bahamas is Tiger Beach. Known for its clear and calm waters and considered among professional photographers/film makers as the best shark destination in the world. Here you will experience close encounters with Tiger-‐, Lemon-‐, and Reef sharks and if you are lucky even more. This tour will give you the opportunity to take fantastic pictures up close. You will embark at West Palm Beach, Florida on board the M/Y Dolphin Dream, and set your course towards Grand Bahamas and Tiger Beach. You will arrive approximately during the sunset the day after. You now have 5 days of exciting shark dives ahead of you. Between the dives, you can relax on deck with a burger or ribs whilst the shark fins continues to appear in the water. Our operator has 25 years of experience with shark diving using bait in the water. They are considered to be one of the most experienced and qualified operators. This journey is perfect for divers that have shark diving on their bucket-‐list. If you want to see sharks up close, in this case really close, then this journey is for you. Equipment and Climate
Leave your colourful diving equipment at home During every dive, there will be bait in the water. During a couple of the dives, the dive guide will be feeding the sharks in the water. During this process, there will be sharks at surface and down at the bottom. The big Tiger shark is extremely curious of bright shiny colours. This makes it essential that all divers have equipment in dark colours, preferably black with hood and gloves. NOTE! Check your equipment before departure. If you are using a DIN-‐regulator, do not forget to bring a YOKE adapter. Swedish summer During March, the weather in Bahamas is comparable to Swedish summer. Bring a cap/hat, sunglasses and sun lotion. It is important to stay alert at all times against the sun. Shorts and t-‐shirt is recommended on the boat. In case of strong wind during the nights, you will be transferred to a protected lagoon. M/Y DOLPH IN DREAM
M/Y Dolphin Dream is a shrimp trawler that has been rebuilt to a liveaboard boat. The boat has everything a diver can expect, but without the luxury. On the top deck, there is the canteen, where the chef will be serving food from the American cuisine. How about hamburger, ribs, pizza, chips, desserts and drinks etc? It is also in the canteen where the reviews of the shark dives will take place. On deck outside of the canteen is where you will find the diving platform. This is where every diver will keep his or her equipment. There will be a bunk bed for 2 persons in every cabin. While recharging your ”own batteries” make sure to also charge your camera. DIVING WITH BAITING AND FEEDING
We only employ the best Captain Scott and his crew have worked with shark diving for 25 years. They offer great service and safe diving. They are hired by divers all over the world and are very keen that everyone experiences a safe encounter with the big sharks. Making 3-‐4 dives a day is not a problem as the diving locations have a maximum depth of about 12 metres. How does it work? Captain Scott or one of the dive guides will inform you how to act respectfully among the sharks. It is important to be aware of the current. The fish scent is spreading along the current, which attracts the big sharks, such as the Tiger shark. The guide is always the first one in the water. He brings a bait of thin with frozen fish, which he uses to attract the sharks. You will be accompanying the guide and circle behind him. If the sharks are shy, you might have to lie down on the sand, facing down, making you a non-‐threat. When the timid Tiger shark has taken its bait that is when the show begins. It is common that they will swim towards you and shove you. If you don’t have you big camera to protect you, there will be plastic rods to dismiss them with. It is very important to keep eye contact with the sharks. We’ve known from previous experience that when it comes to the Tiger shark, when you keep eye contact with them, it will keep them at a distance. Help each other out by make everyone aware of where the Tiger sharks are. We are guests in the Sharks world It is utterly important that the respect for the sharks is with us at all times. During the dive, take it slow and move carefully forward. You have to be aware of where the sharks are at all time, because there will be a great number of sharks in the water, both at the surface and at the bottom. Om resan
