President’s Message
Charlie Veith one of our club members, and a parishioner at the
church thought it would be a good idea for us as a group to attend.
The cost is $10.00, and there is a DJ, 50/50 raffle, food vendors,
trivia contest, dancing in the streets (one of my favorites, as
opposed to dancing in the aisles). If you interested in going, please
contact Charlie directly at [email protected] or by phone 516 826

YES FOLKS IT’S SHOW TIME
Our Thunderbird/Ford Show on Sunday July 22, 2007: Again,
we have done our job, and now it is your turn. We need your support in the form of your car, and your check for the pre-registration
fee of $15.00. This year part of the proceeds of the show will go to
CTF = Children’s Tumor Foundation. Please make your check
payable to Dennis Benfante, and mail it to him at 15 Foxcroft
Lane East Patchogue 11772
Show Footnote: The first to pre-register this year is Tony
Eppolito, and his 05 retro bird. Also as of the writing of my monthly President’s message we have (20) cars in the bank. Last year
we had (137) cars, at the Sayville show, and this year our goal is
try and get to (200).
Also if anyone is interested in ordering extra t-shirts from the show,
the cost will be $10.00 per unit. We will also be ordering golf, and
sweatshirts with the show theme art work (see logo below-right) on
it. So if you are interested in any of these items please call me now
to reserve your purchase.
Lastly we need volunteers to help with the parking, 50/50 raffle,
and other stuff. If you are interested it will be a full day starting at
about 7 AM, and in turn you will get a show staff golf shirt to wear
for the day, and keep forever.
Saturday April 14, 2007 at Auto Mat in Hicksville: Before I tell
you who showed, you missed a great session on interior, exterior,
and mechanical restorations done by Auto Mats owner Tim
Browner. There were eight of us, including yours truly. Tim walked
us through his shop in stages. Carpet, mats, seats, vinyl/convertible tops, custom, and original work, and showed us some the
vehicles that were being worked on by his staff. In attendance:
Tony Coloneri, John Fresbee, Ed Mirabella, Will Pearson, Sal
Pirello, Bill McGarry, Sal Furnari, and the Chief.
On a footnote for April 14, 2007: I put this together month’s ago,
and put all the info in the last two newsletters. Even with all that
visibility we only get eight members to attend with a roster close to
seventy. I had a good time, so did the guys who showed, and I
don’t want to hang a cloud over this with my pessimisms, but I do
this stuff for you guys.
Our Own Web Site: Thanks to my oldest son Gary, we now have
our own site - www.litb.org. Starting with April of 07, you can go
and read old newsletters.
Pictures of Your Car: We still need photos of your car for the front
page of the newsletter.
Brooklyn Cyclones Classic Car Show/Saturday July 21 @
KeySpan Park: I recently received a letter from the Brooklyn
Cyclones which is a Met affiliate inviting us to participate in their
car show on July 21.Show times are 3:30 - 5:30 with these two
packages:
1. $20.00 package which covers car registration fee, parking,
security, and 1 Bleacher seat to the 7/21 game that evening.
2. $25.00 package which covers same as above but 1 box seat to
the game
If anyone is interested in going I have the blank registration form,
just call me, and I will get it to you.
Traveling with Both Presidents’: On Saturday May 6, 2007,
Dennis Benfante and I traveled to Freehold New Jersey for the
North East VTCI Regional convention. I took Big Bird, and Dennis
played Tonto. I was really disappointed at the amount of birds that
were there for a convention, maybe twenty if there were that many,
After attending most of the ITC conventions, I guessed I’m a little
spoiled. Even at a small turn out which was in Ohio a number of
years ago, there were still at least fifty birds. In attendance was a
1967 Thunderbird Apollo. For those who do not know this car. In
1966 Abercrombie & Fitch ordered five special 1967 Ford
Thunderbirds to be used as displays in their stores. Detroit Steel
Tubing Company took delivery of the Thunderbirds hardtops; all
painted a special Apollo Blue Metallic, and loaded with options.
The cars were changed into Tudor Landaus, complete with just
about everything you could possibly imagine being installed on an
automobile in 1967.
Here is Something to Think About: GM has spent the last thirty
years moving all its factories out of the US, claiming they can’t
make money paying American wages. Toyota has spent the last
thirty years building more than a dozen plants inside the US. The
last quarter results: Toyota makes 4 billion in profits while GM
racked up 9 billion in losses. GM folks are still scratching their
heads?
Don’t even think about Ford
Peace
Note all the buttons, and functions. It is still in its growing
stages, but soon will have pictures of events, has our show flyer,
and it is printable off the site. Stay tuned for other good stuff
Thursday June 21 Outdoor Meeting/Wendy’s in Oakdale: Just
to give you a heads up. This is a very popular cruise night. The
reason I mention this is because if you don’t get there early, you
may have trouble parking. I usually get there around five ish, and
by six it is almost full.
New Member: Welcome Dave &
Southampton and their 62 Bird.

Webmaster’s Corner
by Gary Weiner
Hello club members. This is your new webmaster speaking.
I just wanted to drop you all a line about The Long Island
Thunderbird Club’s new web site.
Until recently, the club web site has been hosted for free by
Hemmings Motor News. While we appreciate the free service from the good people at Hemmings, there were issues
with that site. The web address was long, complicated and
pretty hard to remember. When people would ask where the
site was, the best we could do was tell them to go to
Hemmings.Com, click on clubs and search for us.
8
The new site is a lot easier to remember, easier to tell
people about and easier to put on a card or poster. The
address is www.litb.org. I invite everyone to type
www.litb.org into their web browser and have a look at the
new site.
One of the main features of the new site, besides the
easy-to-remember address, is that it will allow club members, once they register, to interact by posting comments
on the various articles. Members who have editorial privileges will be able to post new information to the site without having to know any web programming or other fancy
stuff.
The site is built on a WordPress back end, which is a very
popular piece of software used for blogs and other types
of web communities. If you (or your kids) know about this
sort of thing, you can use an RSS feed reader to keep
track of the site and be automatically informed of new articles or updates.
Right now, the site is very plain looking. There will be
graphical and design upgrades in the near future, but all
the functionality is there, so surf on over, register and start
exploring the site.
