Like a Mighty Army
Like a mighty army moves the Church of God;
Brothers, we are treading where the saints have trod;
We are not divided, all one body we,
One in hope and doctrine, one in charity.
Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus going on before.
Sabine Baring Gould
As we celebrate Independence Day on July 4th, we give thanks
for those who have marched for our freedom as good soldiers
of our country. The cause of freedom has been served by
millions who love(d) their country more than life, and the
affairs of everyday life.
The Apostle Paul often wrote of similarities between the
military practice and effective ministry in the cause of Christ.
As he challenged Timothy, he also sets this high calling before
us as soldiers of Christ: “Suffer hardship with me as a good
soldier of Christ Jesus. No soldier in active service entangles
himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the
one who enlisted him as a soldier.” II Timothy 2:2, 3
A soldier in God’s army is called to make hard choices regarding the issues of daily life. He is cautioned to not become
entangled in the everyday affairs that would compromise his
effectiveness in serving the God under whose command he
lives. As Paul demonstrated that in his life, he set it as a standard for Timothy and God’s people: Get your life in order – be
ready for deployment. Know your priorities as a good soldier
and don’t let mundane matters tie you up so that you can’t
serve effectively.
The cause of freedom for which God’s soldiers march is not
political, but rather the spiritual freedom that comes through
the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ; at stake is freedom from
sin, freedom from spiritual death and freedom from the power
of the devil. So great is this cause that all the affairs of everyday
life need to be aligned in support of it, rather than in conflict or
opposition to it.
As we seek to serve faithfully in this great cause, let us allow
God’s Word and His Spirit to order our lives, disentangling us
from the everyday affairs of life, that we may please the One
who has enlisted us.
Marching with you, under the cross of Christ,
Pastor Moland

Hello Youth of ORLC!
The summer has started and vacations

gatherings so I would like to meet up
with the youth of ORLC on your time
and just get to know you all better.
I have been working on correcting the
e-mail and phone list with current
contact information for parents and
youth. Also if you know of youth who I
may not have contact info for please let
me know and I will get in touch with
them. If you would like to send your
contact info to me directly to make
sure you stay up to date on events or to
schedule a one on one meeting my

Bible Camp a Success!
Family Bible Camp was a great success, as ten people from ORLC joined with district churches
for rich days of fellowship and challenging messages from God’s word. Each one heard a
strong call to faithfully serve God by bringing the Gospel to the ends of the earth.
Missionary Brad Buser and his wife Beth were a blessing to the camp, as they shared about
their work in Papua, New Guinea, bringing the gospel to a people group that had not heard of
Jesus and His message of salvation. Brad was the evening speaker and brought a heartsearching challenge each night.
Pastor and Barbara led one of the campfires each evening, leading children and adults to
reflect on the blessings of the day with song and testimony around a blazing fire.
There was great music, puppet shows and classes for all ages to enjoy. Recreation opportunities filled each afternoon; each day was full with good things to make the week a blessing.
Family Bible Camp will be held again next year, June 22-26. Make plans now to attend to
share in the blessings of being in God’s Word in the beautiful setting at Cedar Springs.

We'll need many volunteers to make VBS run smoothly. Please pray for leaders to step
forward. If you (or a friend) are interested in volunteering, please contact Dayna
Hall [email protected] so that she can add you to her contact list. We will need a young
man (Paul) in particular, as well as many more young men and women to be available all
week as family leaders. Thanks for your prayer support!
