MANUFACTURER’S WARNING — IMPORTANT – PLEASE READ
The decision to use Humane Restraints is solely the decision of the professional ordering the application
of such restraints. Person deciding to apply Humane Restraint must evaluate the circumstances and accept responsibility for any consequences of such action.
Humane Restraints are intended to be used in situations involving a person who may cause harm to
himself/herself or others. This product may be dangerous if improperly used or applied. Please read
product specification (spec) sheet prior to use. The manufacturer disclaims any warranty or liability
for improper usage. Humane Restraint suggests people restrained by Humane Restraint products be
monitored at all times. Humane Restraint makes this suggestion for security and safety purposes and to
maximize patent comfort and well being.
Carefully inspect each Humane Restraint product before using. Things to look for include leather, nylon
or polyurethane fatigue, cuts, hardware damage, loose stitching and frayed nylon edges. Worn or
damaged restraint should not be used.
A restraint technique for a person in bed is a four-point restraint system. Both legs should be restrained
at the ankle by a snug-fitting Humane Restraint anklet. Both legs should be fully extended; control
straps should be secured. Both arms should be restrained at the wrist by a snug-fitting Humane Restraint wristlet. Both arms should be fully extended; control straps should be secured. Should the restrained patient require additional control the application of a fifth point (about the chest) or sixth point
(at the thighs) might be necessary.
A restraint technique for ambulatory purposes is possible using a Humane Restraint ankle hobble applied snugly at the ankle. Wrists should be snugly fitted with one of Humane Restraint’s wrist-to-waist
restraints (Mendota P.A.D.S. – Preventive Aggression Devices). Ambulatory restraints encourage interaction with others without sacrificing safety and ultimately reducing the need for seclusion. People in ambulatory restraints should be monitored at all times. Humane Restraint makes this suggestion for security
and safety purposes and to maximize patient comfort and well being.
