The center of Sorrento – what’s to do
around the hotel
Sorrento and its
wonderful Peninsula are ideal for those
wishing to visit a city full of art in the
beautiful scenery of sea and green
mountains.
From the Grand Flora Hotel, hotel in the center of
Sorrento, you arrive in five minutes’ walk in Piazza
Tasso, where you can see the monument to Tasso
and the statue of Sant’Antonino, and the Church of the Carmine and the facade of the House in
Veniero Sicilian-Norman style and the Palazzo Correale of 400. We then move over to Italy, the main
street of Sorrento, where you can see the Duomo with its Romanesque facade. Here you can see the
paintings of Horace and Nicola Malinconico – Giacomo Del Po and Silvestro Buono. Below the seat
Dominova, loggia of the fifteenth century, with a dome and majolica tiles of the’600 and within which you
can see the arms of noble families ascribed.
The old town still shows the layout of Roman origin and is surrounded by sixteenth century walls.
Sorrento was Episcopalian, and in the sixteenth and seventeenth century was a victim of the assaults of
the Saracens of which traces are still present in the towers on the coasts.
The most interesting monuments to visit in Sorrento are certainly the Cathedral, built in the fifteenth
century and the church of St.Francis of Assisi with the cloister.
At the Correale Museum are exhibited collections of Greek and Roman artefacts and Capodimonte
porcelain. Is also worth visiting the museum shop of Tarsia-Lignea where you can admire the best pieces
of inlay Sorrento, one of the crafts typical of Sorrento.
Sorrento is not just a place full of history, but also a place to live even just by walking through the alleys of
the historic center with local shops and typical.
