HSSI WINS AWARDS!
HSSI won two 2015 Communicator Awards
in two categories for the International Association of Directors of Law Enforcement
Standards and Training/NHTSA course
“Motorcycle Safety Enforcement Training”
completed last year. This industry award
stands out as it was produced solely by HSSI’s
CDG without any outside vendor collaboration.
Recognition statuettes and certificates are
proudly displayed in the HSSI Alexandria office.
Lorraine Ligas and Nikki Dobbs are congratulated on their development of this quality course, not only because it won awards,
but because the information it provides will
make a difference in the policing and safety of
motorcycles on todays highways. Chris Martin
is also recognized as the PM and for supporting
the CDG team while they brought this project to
a successful conclusion. If anyone would like a
CD of the course, please contact Sharon Reese.
2 WEEK COMMUTER
CHALLENGE
Some of the Alexandria staff participated in
a 2 week Commuter Challenge – those who
could, reduced their carbon footprint by biking,
walking, carpooling and/or using public transit.
Mr. Kerry Quinn won the city-wide commuter
challenge drawing of a free night stay at a
local hotel in Old Town, Alexandria. Yay- Kerry!
Steve Reese did the honor of presenting the
winning certificate.

Curriculum
Development
Team
One of the groups of HSSI training employees that labor behind the
scenes, but without whose work our efforts would not be nearly as
professional is the Curriculum Development Team. Pat Horine and a
small group of writers perform miracles pulling together the research
of Subject Matter Experts, or as likely as not, doing the research themselves and producing detailed lesson plans that are professional beyond measure. This group of employees deal with Terminal and Enabling Learning Objectives, Power Points, Exams, Practical Exercises
and much more on a daily basis. All of these must align, be mutually
supportive and be administratively correct and they do this better
and faster than anyone has reason to expect.
In addition to the lesson plan conversion task, several members of the
team wrote new lesson plans critical to the basic training of USMC MP
leaders of the future. Pat and his team will finish this herculean task in
under 90 days!! Nicely done!
Pat, our Senior Curriculum Writer has been ably supported by the following for the MPOBC:
Heather Lawson Willet
Travis Jones
Chuck Johannes
Mike George
Rob Stanford
Jamie Roberto
Dr. Carol Gregory Jenny Ingels
Laura Stanford
Robin Moore
Dave McCarthy
Recently, Pat and his team were given an onerous task. The USMC is
creating a MP Officer Basic Course and one of the tasks for this effort is
to convert over 90 existing BPOC lesson plans, creating over 388 hours
of instruction or 10 weeks of the 14 week course into material that is
relevant for a brand new Marine Officer MP. Also, the lesson plans are
required to be in the Training and Education Command format, necessitating extensive administrative work on each one. 4
