Probiotics are live microorganisms which when
administered in adequate amounts confer a
health benefit on the host. Humans have always had a symbiotic relationship with these
“friendly” bacteria; the bacteria need us as their
host and in return, they help us keep our intestinal system in good health in a
variety of ways. In the crowded
microenvironment of our gastrointestinal tract, probiotic
bacteria can crowd out other
“undesirable”
bacteria
or
fungi, promote regular GI function, promote urogenital health in
women, release antibiotic molecules
against “bad” bacteria, stimulate our immune system, increase the absorption of nutrients from our diet, and produce short chain fatty
acids which can benefit the skin and liver.
The intestines range from a relatively alkaline
environment (pH) of the small intestine to an

Keeping the Balance
While we have regularly consumed probiotics
throughout history in the

Q-Absorb™
The cardiovascular system plays the crucial
role of circulating oxygen, as well as providing
a network for the movement of nutrients, cellular wastes and chemical signals throughout the
body. If cells in any part of the body are deprived
of fresh, oxygenated blood they begin to die.
The healthier the heart, lungs, arteries, veins and
blood are, the more efficient the body as a whole
will function.
Coenzyme Q10 (Co-Q10) has an important role
in cardiovascular metabolism, both as a critical
component in energy production, and as a circulating antioxidant. Made by all cells, it is essential
to the body’s production of energy in the form of
adenosine triphosphate (ATP) in the mitochondria. This holds special importance for the heart,
which is spectacularly endowed with fine mitochondria and generally has the body’s highest
concentration of Co-Q10.
A healthy cardiovascular system requires efficient energy production in the heart and arteries,
minimization of the potentially damaging effects
of oxygen (oxidation) on cardiovascular cells and
tissues, and maintainance of proper levels of circulating chemicals (particularly triglycerides, lipoproteins, and sugars).
Co-Q10 is a powerful cardiovascular antioxidant.
Experimental results demonstrate that oral supplementation of Co-Q10 complements the activity of other important serum antioxidants (like
alpha-tocopherol [vitamin E]) in protecting serum
LDL (low density lipoprotein) against oxidation.
Factors that can impair the functioning of the cardiovascular system include both lifestyle (poor
diet, obesity, lack of exercise, elevated stress) as
well as biochemical (elevated levels of circulating
LDL cholesterol and glucose, high blood pressure, excessive free radical damage).
Jarrow Formulas’ Q-absorb™ technology has
been designed to maximize Co-Q10 absorption naturally, without the use of detergents or
surfactants. Q-absorb™ reduces the amount of

The Skeleton
Bone-Up®
The skeletal system is comprised of bones
and joints which provide a rigid framework
for the human body, but also allow freedom of
movement. The skeleton has additional roles as
well: it protects vital organs, stores calcium and
other vital minerals, and houses bone marrow
(which serves to produce cells of the circulatory
and immune system). Bones require a variety of
chemicals and nutrients for their continued health,
including calcium, vitamin D, trace minerals,
proteins, and polysaccharides. Bones are also
made stronger by a variety of weight bearing
activities and exercise.
Jarrow Formulas’ Bone-Up® is the most complete
nutritional regimen for healthy bones. It starts
with the finest source of calcium available: Hydroxyapatite (MCHA), the same form of calcium
found in human bone tissue. The MCHA in Jarrow Formulas’ Bone-Up® is derived from chemical-free, range-grazed Australian calves (not veal
calves), and prepared without heat or chemical

The Brain
SAMe
The human brain is at the heart of the central
nervous system. Through a complex network of
electrical and chemical communication signals,
the brain, cranial nerves and spinal cord integrate
with and control the peripheral nervous system
and thereby regulate virtually all of human
activity.
S-Adenosyl Methionine (S-adenosyl-L-methionine or SAM-e) is an amino acid derivative that
has been clinically proven to benefit brain, liver
and joint function. Found in all living cells, SAM-e
has a fundamental function in human metabolism,
as a methyl donor. By donating methyl groups in
a wide variety of metabolic reactions, SAMe acts
as a building block for the human body’s construction of several important molecules, including DNA, proteins, antioxidants, and phospholipids, among others.
The brain is divided into three parts: the forebrain,
midbrain and hindbrain. Involuntary activities,
such as heart rate, respiration, and digestion, do
not require conscious effort and are considered
to be part of the autonomic nervous system and
are controlled by the hind and midbrain. Voluntary
movement is categorized as part of the somatic
nervous system. Higher mental activity, such as
thought, reason, and abstraction, is consciously
controlled and is generated by the forebrain.
SAM-e supports brain function by aiding in the
synthesis of neurotransmitters (substances involved in the brain’s cell-to-cell communication).
These compounds include L-dopa, seratonin,
dopamine, epinephrine and phosphatidylcholine.
The brain requires an enormous amount of energy, oxygen and nutrients for the variety of processes it performs. In an adult human, the brain
uses 20 – 25% of the daily energy consumed in
the body.
SAM-e is a chiral molecule that exists in two forms.
The biologically active form is the (S,S) structure,
while the (R,S) structure is biologically inactive.
Jarrow Formulas SAM-e is made naturally by
microbiological fermentation and then specially
processed, without solvents, to preserve 68-80%
(S,S) SAM-e, the highest active level available.
