Because of Goltens’ capabilities in Diesel engine repairs
and reconditioning, coupled with its In Situ Machining
expertise, Goltens was engaged by the shipowner to repair
and overhaul the main and auxiliary engines on a ferry ship
within a finite schedule. One of the auxiliaries also had a
damaged crankshaft due to malfunctioning lubrication
system and a crack in the engine block that needed to be
attended to by Goltens’ In Situ machinists.
REPAIRS CONSISTED OF:
MAIN ENGINE
• Reconditioning of turbocharger and governor
• Overhaul and reconditioning of cylinder heads
• Overhaul pistons and connecting rods
• Replacement of all main bearings
• Polishing of crankshaft journals
• Overhaul and calibration of fuel injection valves
• Engine commissioning and sea trial
AUXILIARY ENGINE #1
• Metal Stitching to repair damaged engine block
• Crankshaft machining to -0.5mm undersize for all main
journals and shaft straightened
• Overhaul of diesel engine components
• Dismantling and reassembling engine
• Installing engine to its foundation and laser alignment to
alternator and regrouting with Chockfast
• Engine commissioning
AUXILIARY ENGINE #2
• Dismantling and reassembling engine
• Overhaul cylinder heads, pistons and connecting rods
• Overhaul turbocharger
• Replacement of all main and crankpin bearings
• Engine commissioning
RESULTS:
After successful sea trials the ferry was returned to full
service. Goltens’ Diesel and In Situ teams completed the
project on time and to the full satisfaction of the customer.
