Your first duty is forever to preserve and to defend the
Turkish Independence and the Turkish Republic.
This is the very foundation of your existence and your
future. This foundation is your most precious treasure.
In the future, too, there may be malevolent people at
home and abroad who will wish to deprive you of this
treasure. If some day you are compelled to defend your
independence and your republic, you must not tarry
to weigh the possibilities and circumstances of the
situation before taking up your duty. These possibilities
and circumstances may turn out to be extremely
unfavourable. The enemies conspiring against your
independence and your republic, may have behind
them a victory unprecedented in the annals of the world.
It may be that, by violence and ruse, all the fortresses
of your beloved fatherland may be captured, all its
shipyards occupied, all its armies dispersed and every
part of the country invaded. And sadder and graver than
all these circumstances, those who hold power within
the country may be in error, misguided and may even be
traitors. Furthermore, they may indentify their personal
interests with the political designs of the invaders. The
country may be impoverished, ruined and exhausted.
Youth of Turkey’s future,

Turkish Independence and Republic.

KAYSERI
THE CITY OF KAYSERI

Kayseri has a population of nearly 550 thousand and is both
a cultural, and industrial centre, with an incredible historical
background. Despite the history of the city dating back to 4000
B.C., its main claim to fame was attained in the era of Romans
as the centre of Cappadocia. The name Kayseri was originally
Casseria, because at some time in the history of the city, it was
reconstructed by Caesar. At the end of the 11th century, Kayseri
was conquered by the Anatolian Seljuks, and became a major
cultural and scientific centre. At this time, the first Turkish-Islamic campus in Anatolia was built - the Hunat Hatun Medresse
Complex. This religious building was dedicated to Hunat Hatun in 1276, and included a mosque, a medresse, Turkish baths
and a soup kitchen. In the era of the Anatolian Seljuks, a large
number of historical works, such as mosques, medresses and
tombs were constructed, and these have endured the duration
of time and can be visited today. There is also a historical covered bazaar, the third largest in Turkey, which is still a shopping
centre in the present-day Kayseri.
Kayseri lies on the Silk Road which resulted in Kayseri becoming
one of the first textile and industrial centers in Turkey. Kayseri is
still world famous for its hand-woven silk and wool carpets.
Kanish and Karum ruins, the Assyrian and Hittites centres, lie
22km to the east of Kayseri. As well as a great number of pre-

historic ruins and
abandoned buildings (Hittite, Assyrian, Greek and
Roman), the city
of Kayseri also has
in its possession
many
Ottoman
and Seljuk historical relics dating
back to these ancient civilizations.
A great many historical large inns
and caravansaries
can still be seen
in and around
the city - some of
which are spectacular. Sultan Han,
Karatay Caravansary, and İncesu
Karamustafa Pasha Caravansary to name but a few.
The mountain after which the university is named, Mount Erciyes, is 3,916m high and quite spectacular all year round.

KAYSERI
In winter, it is one of the most popular skiing resorts in Tukey
with both local and foreign skiers, and in the hotter months, a
cool escape from the heat of the sun.

This medresse, built as a Medical Medresse and a Lunatic Asylum, is known to be the very first medical centre in Anatolia and the first teaching hospital in the world. It was
built in 1205 in dedication to Gevher Nesibe Sultan,
daughter of the Sovereign of the Seljuks, Kılıçarslan
II, by her brother Gıyaseddin Keyhüsrev I.. Today it
is used as a Medical History Museum and is managed by Erciyes University.

This medical school medresse has been given various names
- Gevher Nesibe Şifaiyesi, Kayseri Daruşşifası, Şifa-Hatun Medresesi, Kayseri Maristanı, Darüş-şifa Medresesi, Çifte Medrese,
Çifteler, Gıyasiye, and Kayseri Tıbbiyesi – which shows how important it was throughout its history.

Around Kayseri there are many places of natural beauty - the
Taurus Mountains, Kapuzbaşı Waterfalls near Yahyalı and Sultan Sazlığı Bird and Wildlife Reserve. Kayseri, the centre of the
Cappadocia region, is 80km from these wonderful caves and
underground cities which used to be home to ancient civilizations.

Erciyes University was founded in 1978 under the name of Kayseri University. The Gevher Nesibe Medical Faculty, which was
opened affiliated to Hacettepe University, Ankara, in 1969 and
Kayseri Business Administration Faculty, opened in 1977, constituted the nucleus of Erciyes University in 1978. four years later
in 1982, two other Higher Education Institutions in Kayseri were
incorporated into the university – the Faculty of Engineering
and the Faculty of Theology. Its name then became Erciyes University - a university in its own right. The name Erciyes was inspired by Mount Erciyes which towers above the main university
campus and the city of Kayseri.
Today, in addition to the
main campus 3km from the
city, there are other branches of Erciyes university in
neighbouring towns and
cities. The university today
includes a total of 17 faculties, 7 colleges, 8 vocational
high schools, 4 institutions,
5 departments, 10 research
centers and a highly developed research hospital with
1,350 beds.
in 1995 - the Faculties of Veterinary Sciences in Kayseri,
in 1997 - the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences
(Yozgat) and the Faculty of Arts and Science (Yozgat),
in 2002 - the Faculty of Dentistry, the Faculty of Communication, the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Pharmacology.

The following vocational schools provide a two-year (4 semester) education: Kayseri Vocational College, Halil Bayraktar Health Services Vocational College, Safiye Çıkrıkçıoğlu Vocational
College and Kocasinan Vocational College, and Yozgat Vocational College and Nevşehir Vocational College.
At Erciyes University, post-graduate study programs are becoming more and more popular. Currently, there are 1,226 Master of Arts and Science and Social Sciences students and 243
Doctorate students at the Institutes of Sciences, Health Sciences and Social Sciences.
This year, there is a total of 26,226 under-graduate students,
310 of whom are from the New Turkic Republics and other foreign countries.
Currently, our university has 209 professors, 82 associate professors, 284 assistant professors, 172 lecturers, 183 instructors,
46 specialists and 628 research assistants. We also employ a total of 1,604 academic and 1,466 administrative personnel.
Our main university campus is situated out of the city center,
and is highly developed and well organized. As a university we
are most fortunate as many local businessmen have donated
buildings, both for hospitals and education institutions, thus
expanding our student capacity and improving our university
greatly.

Diploma Programs:
Two-year Diploma education at Erciyes University is offered at
the following colleges of further education: Kayseri Vocational
College, Halil Bayraktar Health Services College, Safiye
Cıkrıkçıoğlu Vocational College, Kocasinan Vocational College,
Social Sciences Vocational College, Develi Vocational College,
Yozgat Vocational College and Nevşehir Vocational College.
The duration of the academic instruction at all these vocational
colleges is 4 semesters (2 academic years).

Under-graduate education is offered at 17 faculties: the Faculty

Post - Graduate Education: Post - graduate education is
conducted at the level of masters and doctorate studies in the
faculties of the sciences and social sciences, and in the medical
and health care faculties.

The duration of the academic instruction is 12 semesters (6
academic years) at the Faculty of Medicine, and 10 semesters (5
academic years) at the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences, Faculty of
Dentistry and Faculty of Pharmacy. The duration of education
at all other faculties, plus Nevşehir College of Tourism and
Hotel Management, Physical Education College, Kayseri Atatürk
Heath College, Nevşehir Health College, Yozgat Health College
and Civil Aviation College, is 8 semesters (4 academic years).
After successfully completing 4 academic semesters, if a student
in their third or fourth academic year is currently studying at
Erciyes University and faces dismissal from university due to
not having passed examinations or for any other reason, he/
she can apply for a Vocational College Diploma.

Summer School courses provide an opportunity for students
to make up the courses in which they have failed, or to increase
the grade of courses they have a low passing grade in. In
addition, the Summer School courses allow successful students
to graduate from university in a shorter period of time.
Students from other universities may register at Erciyes
University Summer School.
DOUBLE BRANCH,
SECOND DEPARTMENT PROGRAM
This is a facility available for successful faculty students and
four-year college program students to attend courses in other
departments or faculties, or to change their department
within their faculty and thus receive a second degree.
This program allows our students in the Faculties, Colleges and
SIDE - BRANCH PROGRAM
Vocational Colleges (no matter whether they are two- or fouryear program students) to take courses in another department
as a Side-Branch Program.

The main aim of the Council
of Student Representatives is
to promote communication
between the students,
lecturers and the university
administration. This Council
is a legal unit and has the
authority to represent
all students and inform
the administration of all
Academic, Health, Sport
and Cultural requirements
and requests proposed by
students. It is made up of
elected representatives of students from all the faculties and
colleges at the university. It represents Erciyes University within
Erciyes University and at Inter-University Social and Cultural
Organizations. Any student can choose to take part in projects
organized by this council.
Prospectus
Students may also make use of facilities at the Psychological
Consultancy and Guidance Unit, which provides assistance
with problems students may have with adapting to university
life and the like. Students over the age of 25 cannot use these
facilities.
Students who are officially registered pay only 10% of the cost
of medicines they are prescribed from pharmacies who have
signed a protocol with the university.

Students who have a problem with their health can make use of
the services offered by the Medico Social Health Center, where
there are doctors, dentists, psychologists and nurses available.
If necessary, a student may be referred to specialist physicians
at Erciyes University Gevher Nesibe Hospital for further tests
or treatment. Students’ dental problems are treated both
by Medico Social Center Dental Unit dentists and at Erciyes
University Faculty of Dentistry.

At all the university campuses there are student dining halls
where students can have breakfast, lunch and dinner. These
dining rooms are subsidised by the government which means
that students can eat here at a very reasonable price.
The meals are prepared professionally in order to provide
a proper and balanced diet for students living away from
home. The meals served are regularly checked for hygiene and
quality by dieticians and other specialists from the university
hospital.
There are also a lot of restaurants and cafes on the campuses,
and in the faculties and colleges where students can eat and
spend their free time in the company of other students.
SOCIAL AND CULTURAL
SERVICES
One of the most important aims of our university is to ensure
that our students spend their spare time in the most productive
and enjoyable way possible. The extra-curricular activities
organized by the various university clubs and associations help
meet the students’ expectations of university cultural activities
and social life.
There are also symposiums, panel discussions, conferences
and exhibitions held regularly at the university. Besides picnics
in the surrounding countryside, and tourist and educational
excursions, Navruz Festivals, Kayseri Culture and Art Week,
Spring Festival and summer camps are all part of the annual
university calendar.
Sports and Spring Festivals are very lively, and festival week is full
of famous singers’ concerts, conferences and panel discussions,
as well as other recreational activities. Furthermore, there is a
theatre week every year, organized in collaberation with other
universities, including plays and panels with theatre groups
from different universities, and with famous guest actors and
actresses. The European Union Student Club organizes an
annual international winter sports festival on Mount Erciyes,
12km from the university.

Turkish Classical Music, Turkish Folk Music, Pop and Rock
concerts, folk dancing, plays and many other musical activities
are held for students.

In several faculties, schools and institutes of our university,
cultural and scientific magazines are published. The
university has facilities to publish the contents of conferences,
symposiums, panel discussions and seminars as booklets for
interested students. There are a lot of meeting rooms and
conference halls within the university: the Sabancı Complex,
with a seating capacity of 500; the Faculty of Business
Administration Conference Hall, with a seating capacity of 300;
the Nuri Cıngıllıoğlu Conference Hall, Nuri-Zekiye Has Institute
Conference and Meeting Hall, with a seating capacity of 110;
Makbule Küçükçalık School of Foreign Languages Conference
Hall with a seating capacity of 280; the Kadir-Rezzan Has
Central Library Hall with a seating capacity of 250; the Faculty
of Theology Conference Hall, the Faculty of Engineering
Conference Hall and the exhibition hall inside Sabancı Complex.
All of these facilities are available to students upon request for
whatever activity they choose to take part in.

Erciyes University Sports Club was founded in 2001. The basketball, volleyball, chess, athletics, handball and competitive
sports teams compete in leagues and competitions throughout Turkey. There are also winter sports clubs and teams, such

There are a great many indoor and outdoor sports facilities in
which our students have the chance to do sport at every hour
of the day. On the main campus, the Süleyman Demirel Sport
Hall, built to international standards, has a capacity for 2,500
spectators and has basketball, volleyball, badminton, and
handball courts, plus facilities for Gymnastics and Physical
Training. There are also two sport halls on the Sümer Campus
and in Yozgat, with a capacity for over 500 spectators. Erciyes
University also boasts the 80th Year Atatürk Indoor Football
Stadium Grounds, which can hold 250 spectators, and houses

Most of the students in Kayseri stay in state dormitories: the
Erciyes Students Dormitory for male students with a capacity
of 1500 students or in Gevher Nesibe Students Dormitory for
female students, both of which are run by the Higher Education
Credit and Dormitories Association. Both of these dormitories
are situated at the edge of the campus and are within easy
walking distance of the campus buildings. Other students may
stay in foundation dormitories, private students dormitories
and pensions, or they can rent flats in the town of Talas, which
is approximately 2km from the main campus, or in the city
centre, from which there is a frequent bus service.
In Yozgat there is a male students’ dormitory with a capacity of
882 beds and another dormitory for female students with the
capacity of 666 beds, both belonging to the Higher Education
Credit and Dormitories Association. The same association
also has dormitories for male students with a capacity of 150
beds and for female students with the capacity of 300 beds
in Nevşehir. In addition, in Nevşehir, very close to the campus,

In the state dormitories, there are 4/6 beds in a room and all
are centrally heated. Hot water is available 24 hours a day. The
dormitories, provide three meals a day, seven days a week.
Also, there are also additional facilities such as a hairdresser’s,
Internet access, a dry cleaner’s, a laundry room, a reading hall,
a cafe and rooms for relaxing. Some dormitories have sports
facilities, a sports hall, an outdoor basketball court, an outdoor
volleyball court, a football pitch, table tennis rooms and a billard
hall. Form all these dormitories there is public transportation to
the university.

number of its students increases, so does the capacity of the

the top 2000 students in OSS-Mathematical Sciences, plus
successful students who enroll on programs from special High

Kadir Has Central Library, located on the main campus,
includes both a library and a documentation center. It contains
over 59,000 books, of which 10,000 are medical books, and
has approximately 70,000 bound and unbound journals. In
addition to this, the library also subcribes to 100 Turkish and

36,000 books available at the Faculty of Theology library
and approximately 7,000 books available at the Faculty of
Economics and Administrative Sciences library. Many faculties

Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine was established on
December 9, 1968 affiliated to Hacettepe University, Ankara,
and started academic activity in 1969 under the name of Kayseri
Gevher Nesibe Medical Faculty.
The duration of education at the Faculty of Medicine is a total of
7 years, which includes one year of English Language Preparatory
studies. Students who pass the English Proficiency Examination
are exempted from the English Preparatory Year and can start in
their first year in the Faculty of Medicine without attending the
School of Foreign Languages.
At this faculty, not only are student activities given primary
importance but also general education in health service care and
scientific activities are cosidered primary concerns. There are many
student clubs in which students may participate in extra-curricular
activities and enjoy their free time in the company of others with
the same interests. These clubs organize many social, cultural,
sports and art activities. The Faculty of Medicine Student Agency
coordinates between the Faculty Committee and students, as well
as organizing student events and relaying students’ requests and
wishes to the Dean’s Office.
Erciyes University Scientific Research Association (ERBAK) was
established to support faculty students’ scientific research projects.
Hospital have all been donated by local businessmen. The total
bed capacity of these hospitals extends to 1,300. The hospitals
primarily serve the city of Kayseri city, and the surrounding towns
and villages, providing high-quality health care. Every hospital
has an international certificate of quality, such as TSE-ISO-EN 9001
(2000) and Quality Management System (2002). These certificates
prove that the services at Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine
are recognized on both a national and international level, a fact
we take great pride in.
Currently at our hospitals the latest techniques and technologies
are applied in hemodialysis, open heart surgery, liver transplants,
coronary angiography, bone-marrow, kidney and cornea
transplants with great success. The latest addition to our everexpanding medical faculty facilities is the IVF Unit, which was
opened in 2005.

As well as ERBAK, GENBAT and the Turkish Medical Students
International Committee (Turkish MSIC), there are a lot of other
groups which are active within this faculty. Within ERBAK, genetic,
physiology, psychiatry, biochemistry, cardiology and sanitation
research sub-groups have been established.
The Dean of the Faculty, with the help of the lecturers, organizes
a number of educational extra-curricular activities, such as
congresses, seminars, excursions, educational programs
designed for primary education, and it also supports students on
international student exchange programs. In the university library,
there is a vast collection of medical sciences books, magazines,
journals and CDs. In addition, within the framework of interlibraries cooperation, students have access to data from other

house for visiting researchers. On a separate floor, the Good
Clinical Practice Unit is located, the first and only one of its kind
in Turkey. This unit works in collaboration with both domestic and
international drug companies. On the top two floors, there are two
large animal operating rooms, and microbiology, physiology and
metabolism laboratories, a micro-surgery operating room, a microsurgery educational unit, as well as a tissue culture laboratory in
which in-vitro embryo and cell culture studies are conducted.

This center, also funded by Suleyman Cetinsaya, was opened in
2004, with special permission of the Ministry of Health, and is the
only drug research clinic in Turkey. This clinic, which is housed in
an independent building, is one of the leading research centers in
the world with a 52-bed capacity. A total of 22 staff currently work
in this department: 4 physicians, 6 nurses, 6 health technicians, 3
laboratory technicians and 3 cleaning and clerical personnel. The
service undergoes regular inspections by the Ministry of Health to
ensure it maintains its high standards.

The clinic conducts bio-equivalence
research on healthy volunteers and
serves the domestic drug industry.
As is known, drugs produced by
different companies can be sold
interchangeably. The main aim of
this center is the conducting of bioequivalence studies, specifically
designed to check if such drugs can
be used in place of one another.
Before this center was established,
such research was carried out
abroad. Today, this clinic prevents
large sums of foreign currency going to other countries and
thus contributes to the economy of Turkey. The center has so far
completed the bio-equivalence studies of almost 210 drugs and
has a full program of study for the coming years. Such a demand
clearly exhibits the positive contribution of this clinic at Erciyes
University to the domestic drug industry and how essential it is.
More recently, a number of international drug companies have
applied to this clinic for bio-equivalence studies, proving its high
quality and standards.

The Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, a nonprofit state institution, is one of the oldest and Erciyes University’s
most prestigious faculties. It was established on January 7, 1980
with 75 students enrolled in the department of business. Currently,
a total of 2,800 students are on its undergraduate programs.
The faculty’s approach to education is such that it encourages
students’ critical and analytical thinking skills, thus equipping
students with the necessary skills for active participation in their
chosen professions.

freshman year, or attend a one-year preparatory English language
program at the School of Foreign Languages. Those who pass
this proficiency examination are entitled to attend classes in their
respective programs at the faculty. As a follow-up to the English
preparatory year education, students can take various English
courses throughout their studies, such as Advanced English,
Translation from English to Turkish, Translation from Turkish to
English, and Written Communication in English.
There is a great variety of courses at the faculty, including the
standard obligatory courses and a selection of elective courses
provided to meet students’ requirements and expectations. In
a number of the elective courses, the medium of instruction is
English.
The business and economics departments offer evening classes as
well as day-time classes, whereas the department of public finance,
a relatively new program, currently offers day-time classes only.

The Engineering Faculty of the Erciyes University was established
on March 1st 1977 initially offering Mechanical Engineering and
Electronical Engineering BSc Degrees. The Faculty now includes
11 departments following the establishment of the Departments
of Civil and Industrial Engineering in 1991, Computer Engineering,
and Geodesy and Photogrammetry Engineering in 1995, Textile
Engineering in 1996, Environmental Engineering and Food
Engineering in 1998, and Mechatronic Engineering and Material
Science and Engineering in 2005. All programs are currently
offering Bachelor Science degrees, except for Environmental
Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, and Material Science and
Engineering departments. One-year preparatory English classes
are obligatory for all students in the Faculty of Engineering.
There are more than 2,400 undergraduate and 150 graduate
students attending the faculty at present. On the academic
staff, there are 14 professors, 8 associate professors, 50 assistant
professors, 9 lecturers, 55 research assistants and specialists. There
are also 17 administrative personnel.
Our Department of Mechanical Engineering, with its 40
experienced academic personnel, has an excellent reputation
among all Mechanical Engineering Departments in Turkey. To
date, it has awarded 1427 BSc, 171 MSc and 52 Ph.D degrees. This
department was established in 1992.
The Department of Electrical and Electronical Engineering,
with 24 academics, has graduated 1,356 engineers since it was
established. In addition, 120 students have been awarded an MSc
degree, while PhD Degrees have been awarded to 48 students.
The main aim of the Faculty is to educate prospective engineers as
techno-entrepreneurs, responsible and respectful to human rights
and possessing technical knowledge of international standards,
and with an insight into how to approach real-life problems. The
curricula in effect in the departments of Engineering Faculty
are arranged in accordance with the advancement of the latest
science and technology.
Prospectus
The first student enrollment to the Department of Civil
Engineering began in 1990 and the secondary education started
in 2003. There are 18 academic personnel working in 4 different

divisions of this department which has graduated 291 Engineers
with BSc and 31 with MSc degrees.

The Department of Industrial Engineering has been offering BSc
degrees since its establishment in 1991, and MSc degrees since
the beginning of the 2004 -2005 academic year. There are of 16
academic personnel in this department, and it has graduated 237
industrial engineers to date. The main aim is to graduate students
with a knowledge of engineering principles, and analytical skills in
defining, comprehending and problem solving necessary for reallife manufacturing and operational processes.
The Department of Computer Engineering with 10 academics offers
BSc, MSc and Ph.D degree programs. The aim of the department is
to educate students for the design and development of hardware
and software components of computer systems. There have been
134 BSc and 14 MSc graduates from the department to date.
The Departments of Food Engineering, and Geodesy and
Photogrammetry Engineering departments accepted its first
students in 2004 and Textile Engineering in 2005. On the
academic staff of the Department of Food Engineering there
are 8 academics, while Geodesy and Photogrammetry has 5 and
Textile Engineering has 10. The Departments of Food Engineering
and Textile Engineering also offer MSc degrees. The Departments
of Environmental Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, and
Materials Science and Engineering are currently in formation stage
and plan to accept students in the near future.
Students can participate in a great variety of extra-curricular
activities in student organizations both in the faculty and university
as a whole. The Faculty has an advanced computer center where
students can access the Internet, or use for their course work. There
are numerous laboratories in the Faculty for teaching and research
purposes, and investment in laboratory equipment is funded by
both local private organizations and the state.

The Faculty of Theology was inaugurated in 1965 under the
name Yüksek İslam Enstitüsü (the High Institute of Islam). This
faculty served for 17 years as a high school with eight semesters
in four years, under the Ministry of Education. In 1982, the name
was changed to İlahiyat Fakültesi (Faculty of Theology) at Erciyes
University and was officially established in 1978.
The four main faculty buildings were donated by local businessmen
and are located in a well established garden. In 1998, an annex was
added by Izzet Bayraktar, a benevolent businessman from Kayseri,
in the name of his father, the deceased Hacı Mehmet Bayraktar.
The faculty includes two training and education buildings, one
library, one Internet saloon, and a modern detached canteen. In our
library there are more than 37,000 books which can be borrowed
by not only students of our faculty but also any university student
and independent researchers from outside.
Education: Education of the students in the Faculty of Theology
is given on two separate programs: Program of Theology and
Program of Religious Culture and Ethics. Both programs are served
by four departments: 1- Department of Basic Islamic Sciences
which includes branches of Tefasir, Hadith, Islamic Jurisprudence
(Fıkh), Kelam, History of Islamic Sects and Islamic Theosophy.

Erciyes Universtiy Faculty of Architecture was established in 1992,
and is comprised of the Departments of Architecture, Urban and
Regional Planning and Industrial Design. Today, the faculty has
345 students, (196 in the Department of Architecture and 149 in
the Department of Urban and Regional Planning), 7 administrative
and 34 academic staff. All Faculty of Architecture students have to
take a preparatory English language year prior to their first year in
the faculty, or pass the English proficiency examination.

This faculty was founded in 1993 with the Departments of Painting, Sculpture, Musicology, Cinema and Television, Ceramics and
Stage Arts.

The Department of Cinema and Television was taken over by the Faculty of Communication in 2002, when it was established. Our faculty

This department lasts eight semesters (four academic years) for

veterınary scıences
The Faculty of Veterinary Sciences accepted its first students in the
1995 - 1996 academic year. After 5 years of training and education,
the first veterinarians were graduated in the year 2000. Our faculty is
situated in an area of 1500km square, and has research facilities and
a research farm on the premises.
The Faculty of Veterinary Sciences accepts its students through
the national university entrance exam. It is comprised of three
main departments; Basic Science, Diseases and Clinical Sciences,
and Animal Breeding and Feeding Sciences. Within these three
departments, there are twenty divisions and all have the latest
technological facilities and laboratories to teach and train the theory
and practice to its students. In the 2004 - 2005 academic year,
the teaching and training system was changed according to the
European Credits and Transfer System (ECTS). Our school is proud to
state that it is a member of the European Association of Veterinary
Education (EAVE).

In addition to classroom studies, all veterinary students have to
complete an externship of 200 hours during the summer breaks of
the 4th or 5th academic year. During the 5th year of education, fall

The Faculty of Education was founded in 2002. The history of the
Department of Educational Sciences within the Faculty of Arts
and Science, the substructure of the Faculty of Education, dates
back to 1985. Thanks to the facilities our universty possesses, it
was possible for our faculty to move into one of the more modern
buildings on the main campus of Erciyes University. At our faculty,
there are 17 classrooms, 3 science laboratories, 2 technology
classrooms, 1 computer laboratory and 1 Internet room, all fully
equipped for our students’ use.
The Department of Education is comprised of 9 Departments and
31 divisions, sub branches of the departments. These departments
are: the Department of Primary Education, the Department
of Turkish Language Education, the Department of Foreign
Languages Education, the Department of Science and Maths
at Secondary School Level, the Department of Social Sciences
at Secondary School Level, the Department of Computer and
Technology Education, the Department of Educational Sciences,
the Department of Fine Arts Education and the Department of

This academic year, our faculty started to accept students into the

in Maths Teaching, Social Sciences Teaching, Turkish Language

At our faculty, the pedagogic classes are given by members of staff

Erciyes University Law Faculty was established on September 5,
2003. The Faculty’s two spacious buildings were kindly donated
by local families, Özbıyık and Göknar. The Faculty commenced its
undergraduate education in the fall of the 2004-2005 Academic
Year, with 30 students. Although our faculty is equipped with
the necessary physical means to educate more than 30 students,
because of our aim to provide state-of-the-art education in law,
only 30 students per academic year are being accepted on the
program.
In order to train the jurists of the twenty-first century, besides
specific law courses, the degree candidates are also given foreign
language and computer courses. Moreover, the undergraduate
program includes both fundamental and emerging branches of
law, such as intellectual property law, human rights law, EuropeanUnion law, business law, and capital markets law. The Faculty
also attaches great importance to interdisciplinary studies, and
the program offers students the opportunity to take courses in
sociology, philosophy, economics, management and accounting.
The faculty has a moot court that has been specially designed to
provide our students with the opportunity for practical training.
Moot court classes and competitions encourage students to take
an active role in the class as well as teaching them the face of
real-life issues in their profession. As for information technology,
the faculty has a laboratory equipped with 30 sophisticated
computers. This laboratory is open for the use of students for both
academic and personal needs.
The faculty also offers graduate programs in private law and public
law that are administered by Erciyes University’s Graduate School
of Social Sciences.
Faculty of Law
Although the medium of instruction is Turkish, we aim to teach
students an excellent command of either English or German.
Towards this objective, we offer intensive English and German
language courses. In addition, a plan to offer elective courses in
English or German is being planned.

Mustafa Kılıçer Faculty of Pharmacy was founded in the year
2003. This faculty was donated by the family of deceased local
pharmacist, Mustafa Kılıçer. The building is very modern and has
Internet access in all rooms, classrooms and laboratories which
provides a contemporary education for its students. There are 4
spacious lecture theaters and an amphitheatre which seats 100
people. In addition, there are 5 research and 8 student laboratories,
all of which are well-equipped.
In our faculty, there are 8 departments: Pharmaceutical Chemistry,
Pharmacognosy, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Technology,
Pharmaceutical Toxicology, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry
and Pharmaceutical Microbiology.
On our academic staff, there is one professor, two associate
professors, two assistant professors, and four research assistants.
At present, we can offer a 2-year Diploma program in the Health
Science Pharmaceutical Chemistry Institute. The facutly accepted
its first intake of students in the 2005-2006 Academic Year. The
duration of education is five years on the undergraduate programs
and all the students who graduate from the Faculty of Pharmacy
are awarded a Master’s Degree in Pharmacy.
Pharmacy is a very diverse and interdisciplinary field of science,
comprising of drugs and pharmaceutical raw materials from

from the extraction of the natural and artificial drug raw materials

In the 1997 – 1998 Academic Year the Departments of Midwifery
and Nursing were established, and then in 1998 the Department
of Nutrition and Dietetics was opened. The duration of all courses
at the college is four years (eight semesters), and students are
awarded a degree in their chosen department and the title ‘nurse’,
‘midwife’ or ‘dietitian’ upon graduation. All graduates can find
employment in all fields of the health sector, in both private and
state hospitals, and in health care institutions. Graduates from the
Department of Midwifery can also find jobs in primary health care,
and in maternity and family planning health clinics. Dieticains can
find jobs in the food service sector, in hotels, catering institutions
and diet centers.

The former Civil Aviation Vocational College was established in
2000, and establishment with three departments, the Departments
of Airframe-Powerplant, Aircraft Electrics-Electronics and Flight
Training. The Departments of Airframe-Powerplant and Aircraft
Electrics-Electronics started education by accepting students in
the 2001 Academic Year. The Department of Flight Training is still
in the planning stage and students have not been admitted yet.
The educational period in the Civil Aviation College is a total of
five years - one year of English language studies at the School
of Foreign Languages, followed by four years of undergraduate
studies in the Civil Aviation Vocational College. The primary
objective of the college is to educate students in the afore
mentioned programmes, and for the students to attain a high level
of knowledge and skills in their field of study. Our students are also
taught to speak a foreign language in order to meet the needs of
the aircraft industry.
The college is in contact with many institutions and schools fo
further education related to the aviation industry. The main aim of
the school is to educate and train qualified maintenance personnel
to work in the area of aviation.
All our students have to attend summer traineeships at the end
of the 4th and 6th semesters in two 40 working day blocks, in
aviation organisations such as Turkish Airlines (THY), Turkish
Aerospace Industries (TAI), TUSAŞ Engine Industries Inc. (TEI),
military installations which serve aircrafts, and civil airways.
Civil Aviation Vocational College
The education is carried out by the academic staff of the
Civil Aviation College and other faculties and Colleges of the
University, together with the experts from the 2nd Air Supply and
Maintenance Command (ASMC) and 12th Air Transportation Main
Base Command from the Airforce Base. The ASMC makes a great
contribution to the education given in the Civil Aviation College,
especially in the courses of practical training. Some of the practical
training courses are carried out in the ASMC facilities.

Yozgat Health College was founded affiliated to Erciyes University
on 02.11.1996 by decree No 96/8655of the Council of Ministers, in
accordance with the European Union education standards in the
teaching and training of midwives, nurses and health officers, as a
model of the new system of health eucation in the country.
In the 1997-1998 Academic Year, the college enrolled 31 students
in the Nursing Department and graduated its first graduates in the
2000-2001 Academic Year. Today, there are 179 students enrolled

The education is carried out in accordance with today’s age of

in 5 large classrooms and fully-equipped laboratories. In order

participate in a nationwide tour, approved by the Ministry of
Tourism, accompanied by a national tourist guide who has at least
5 years of guiding experience.
There are 26 members of teaching staff at the College. The academic

British subject, 16 instructors and 3 research assistants. The College
carries out its educational activities in its own building which was
built in 1990. The College has spacious classrooms and laboratories
furbished with modern educational equipment as well as adequate

canteen with a capacity of 300, and a cafeteria for 200 persons.

Year with the carpet-weaving program. The carpet-weaving
program, which was the very first course at the Kayseri Vocational
College, in the 1998-1999 academic year was moved to the school
building together with the Textile Program that worked under the
management of the same college for six years.
As a result of the research and assesment which was carried out in
the region, the carpet weaving programme proved that rugs, as
much as carpets, showcharacteristics and differences. Therefore,
with the admission of rugs into the curriculum, its name was
changed to Carpet-Rug the next year. During their education, the
students learn to use the weaving types, carpet-rug, light-rug, zili
and sumach techniques one by one or several together, and to
identify the materials which are used.

opened in 1989. The college moved to a new building, donated
by Hüseyin Bayraktar, a local businessman, at the beginning of the
1995-1996 Academic Year and its name was then changed to Halil
Bayraktar Health Services Vocational College.
The duration of all courses is two academic years (four semesters),
and those who are successful at the end of this period are awarded
a Diploma and the title ‘Health Technician’. The number of students
presently registered at our college, plus the students we have
graduated, totals over 2,500.
Pratical courses and summer apprenticeships are carried out at
Erciyes University Gevher Nesibe Hospital and at other large health
organizations in our city.

meet the needs of the health sector. Graduates of the programs
can find work in all sectors of the health industry: at University

OTHER INFORMATION
The college is built on an area of 4,000 square meters and

administration, classrooms and computer laboratories, and there
are also prefabricated workshops and classrooms, a large guest
house, and a multi-purpose building for social activities. For the
students’ free time, there are football pitches, and basketball and

Nevşehir Vocational College is situated on the main Nevşehir Campus of
Erciyes University in the city of Nevşehir. The college building includes
22 spacious classrooms and 6 well-equipped laboratories. It was built
thanks to the contributions of charitable citizens. The theoretical

on 20 July, 1982, affiliated to Erciyes University, according to Law

It started its first post graduate education in the Fall Semester of the

The Students of our institute are mostly from Kayseri and the other
nearer cities. The subjects of thesis are primarily being selected on
the territorial problems. One principal and one auxillary educator
are invited from other universities in the proficiency and thesis final
examinations of the doctorate Students. Some of our Students are
having classes in other universities on their fields. The meeting of
the institutes of health sciences in Turkey are being held annually
and the administors of the institutes attend to these meeting
every year. Our institute has organized the VII.th Meeting of the
Administors of Institutes of Health Sciences in l995.
STUDENT ADMISSIONS
The number of student quotas and examination dates are
announced to inform the candidates who would like to pursue
graduate study.
EDUCATION AND INSTRUCTION
Institute of Health Sciences offers master’s and doctorate programs
in various areas of study. If a student admitted to a certain program
has a different area of undergraduate study, he or she is required to
attend a preparatory program prior to beginning the program he
or she has been admitted to. Both Master’s and doctorate program
Students are allowed to take elective English classes 3 days a week.

It is a pre-master’s program. Students who are admitted to a
certain master’s program, but have a different undergraduate
area of study are required to successfully complete at least 6 of
the courses within this program. The normal duration of study in

EDUCATION and INSTRUCTION
SERVICES
Most of the classes within programsa re carried out in the
classrooms of the institute, while applications are carried out in
the laboratories of the departments. The institute possesses 8
class-rooms, a meeting room, a library and a conferance hall with
a capacity of 110 people, which is shared with other institutes. An
internet room has been assigned to the Students and research
assistants of the institute for their research studies. Computer
terminals of the institute are connected to the Data Process Center
through network system. Students who meet the conditions
are eligible for student loans from Higher Education Loans and
Dormitories Institution. Students who are preparing their theses
and dissertations are provided with financial support by the
University Research Fund. Successful Students of the institute
might be offered research assistantships. Currently, the institute
employs 13 research assistants.
After successfuly completing the minimum duration of class
taking, Students are required to prepare and present a thesis

Erciyes University Graduate School of Social Sciences was
established in 1984 to contribute the development of scientific
research on social areas and application, on a high level to produce
knowledge and spread the data, which elicited from scientific
research, to support national and international development.
Graduate School of Social Sciences has been serving in a building,
which was built in 09-October 1997 by generous businessman
Kadir HAS for the sake of his dead mother Zekiye, and father Nuri.

The Institute started its Graduate studies at first with Departments
of Business Administration and Islamic Culture, Civilization and
Social Sciences. In respect of 2005/2006 education year in the
Institute we have following departments;
