More than seeking inspiration in the Brazilian Indian legends to create its new
Ipanema Collection, Grendene took up the cause of the Kisêdjê Indians by
supporting the Y Ikatu Xingu Campaign -“Pure Xingu Water”. This campaign
is aimed to preserve the headwaters of the Xingu River and the forests that
protect the flow of its waters. Located in the State of Mato Grosso, Brazil, the
Xingu River runs across 2,3 thousand km until flowing into the Amazon River
in the Brazilian Amazon. The river is the basis for the traditional activities, rites
and cultural interchange of 14 ethnic Indian groups living in the region.
The Kisêdjê is one of the Indian tribes living in the Xingu Indian Park. They live
in a large Indian settlement and stand themselves out by fighting to maintain
the integrity of their territory, threatened by deforestation and by the
continuing occupation of the headwaters of Xingu River. The exclusive graphic
art - created by the Kisêdjê tribe - is on the insoles of Ipanema products
and represents the culture and customs of its people.
This magic of the waters, life and habits of the Kisêdjê people is present
in the spirit of the new Ipanema Sandals Collection.
Gisele Bündchen is supporting the Y Ikatu Xingu Campaign and both, Gisele
Bündchen and Grendene are destining part of the income from the sales of
these products to support the Y Ikatu Xingu Campaign. Its main
purpose is to intensify efforts to preserve the Brazilian nature.
A collection showing originality, environmental commitment and, above all,
social commitment.
