The Family Trek Format
The Family Trek Format allow’s parents to accompany their children along with cousins and friends on a short trek in the Himalaya. Juniper
Family Treks are short and easy paced trek’s designed to allow families to enjoy the outdoor’s while spending quality time together. The key
objective of the trek is build in children a fondness and appreciation for the outdoors.

Kasol
Kasol is a small town situated in Parvati Valley, on the banks of the Parvati River. Kasol is 42km’s drive from Kullu in Himachal
Pradesh and is at the height of 1640 meters. Kasol offers comfortable hotel accommodation and meals and is ideally located to
stay before and after the trek up the Tosh Valley.
Tosh Village
The Tosh Village at 2400m is the starting point of the trek up the Tosh Valley. A road up to the village was completed in 2010.
The Valley of Meadows
After passing through some forested sections in the initial part of the trek the Tosh valley turns into a series of
meadows. These meadow stretches are not only fun to walk but also excellent locations to camp.
Sharam Thatch ( 3550m )
The highest camp in the valley will be established at Sharam Thatch which is a sprawling meadow offering views in all directions.
The camp will offer an excellent opportunity to explore the region by either going to the head of the valley or one of the sides
valleys.
Highlights for Children on the Juniper Family Trek
Camping out on meadows, fun river crossings, fishing, playing cricket with village children and participating in fun camp games
are some highlights from the children’s perspective. Kasol offer’s comfortable hotels’s and eating options.
Flowers of the Tosh Valley
During the summer months the Tosh valley is a riot of colour and various type of flowers can be spotted as you trek higher up the
valley.

KEY DETAILS
Weather in first week of June : Weather in May till mid June is the ideal time for
trekking. The winter snow has melted and the day’s are generally sunny but cold in the night.
The meadows at this time are green and filled with wild flowers.
Family Trek Format: The recommended age of children should be above 10 and children
should be accompanied by an adult. This trek is designed for first timers ( both children and
parents ) and is easy paced involving short walks from camp to

Delhi / Kirathpur Sahib / Kasol
Take the morning train to Chandigarh and then drive to Kasol over 8 hour stretch to
reach Kasol by 8pm.
Day 2
Sunday
1st June
Drive towards Tosh Village
( 2400m ) and trek to
Buddhaban ( 2800m)
After breakfast, drive to Tosh Village in a car over 30 minutes and begin the walk
that takes you through a thick forest of pine. Buddhaban is a spectacular camping
ground by the side of the river. 5 km’s/3 hours
Day 3
Monday
2nd June
Buddhaban to Shirdi Thatch
( 3200m )
You start losing the tree line as you meander your way along the Tosh passing
through swathes of meadows and rhododendron clusters. It is here you get to feel
the depth of the Tosh valley and a bit of perspective. Sharam is a vast expanse of
meadow with wide valleys. 4km’s/ 3 hours

Tuesday
3rd June
Shirdi Thatch ( 3200m ) to
Shamshi Thatch ( 3550m )
The highest camp on the trek is established at Shamshi Thatch. After reaching camp
can you can continue to trek up the valley for fantastic views of the mountain.
7km’s/ 5 hours.
Sharam Thatch to Buddhaban.
Trek back down the valley to Buddhaban. 11km’s/ 5 hours.
Day 6
Thursday
5th June
Buddhaban to Kasol
By 11am reach Tosh village and take the vehicle back to Kasol. Stay overnight at
hotel in Kasol. 5km’s/ 2 hours.
Day 7
Friday
6th June
Kasol to Chandigarh and onwards
to Delhi.
Drive across 8 hours to Chandigarh and take the evening train to reach Delhi by
10.30pm.

4th June

FOOD ON THE TREK

High quality vegetarian meals will be provided on the trek which include :
Packed lunch served on the trail.
Morning and evening tea along with biscuits.
Hot snacks after arrival at camp.
Soup followed by dinner and dessert.
Johnson Hotel & Cafe
Dry fruits, fruits, chocolates which have a high GI Index.
All water is treated with water purification tablets.

ORGANIZATION
Juniper will be organizing the following:
1. Transport from Delhi to Kasol the back to Delhi after the trek.
2. Hotel accommodation in Kasol before and after the trek.
3. Trekking support across 5 days which includes provision of tents, sleeping mats, dining
tent, meals and porter support. Participants will only carry their day packs.

4. Experienced Trip Leader who will manage all logistics associated
with the trek.
5. Support is developing gear as required for the trek.

NEXT STEPS
For those keen to join the trek should do the following:
1. Confirm their participation by writing into [email protected] and costing details
will be shared.
2. It is important to immediately book train tickets from Delhi to Chandigarh and from
Chandigarh to Delhi as train tickets tend to get booked well in advance.
3. There is an opportunity to extend the trip by staying on at Manali or other towns in
the area which should be planned in advance.
