We all have hidden talents. While
our day job may be in accounting, sales,
or as a parent, our souls have other secret
passages that are paved with what fulfills
us.
Many of us have an artistic side that
is expressed through various creative
endeavors: gardening, cooking, painting
and, of course…music.
I think you would be surprised how
many successful and happy people have
music as a central part of their lives, even
though they are not "professional" in the
way that they make it their living. From
Bill Clinton's jazz tenor saxophone to
Condoleeza Rice's classical piano, sucJung-Ho Pak
cessful people have treasured and benefited from their years of training and
exposure to the world of music.
We also have some local celebrities who are excellent musicians.
For example, KUSI Weatherman Dave Scott is an exceptional jazz
singer and trombonist! He plays regularly at clubs throughout San
Diego and is a favorite at Croce's downtown. We're actually going to feature him on our annual pops concert in the park at the California Center
for the Arts in Escondido on Sunday, Aug. 10, at 7 p.m. He'll be singing
great jazz standards about weather including "On the Sunny Side of the
Street and "Let it Snow!" Dave has a creamy tenor voice that reminds
me of the cool sound of Chet Baker. And, like Chet, his trombone playing is so sophisticated.

you dream about learning how to play the violin, trumpet or piano? It's
never too late, and you can easily find a great teacher who can teach you
how to express what's in your heart through an instrument. If you’re
curious about doing just that but don’t know where to start, just call the

Country Club’s Fore Our Casa Kids golf tournament on Aug. 18.
Golfers to play at new venue for
Ninth Annual Golf Tournament
Lomas Santa Fe Country Club (1505 Lomas Santa Fe Dr., Solana
Beach) will host the Fore Our Casa Kids golf tournament for the first
time on Monday, Aug. 18. Proceeds will benefit Casa de Amparo, the
Oceanside nonprofit providing child abuse treatment and prevention
programs throughout San Diego County since 1978.
The country club is also donating golf and dinner for eight, along
with private, half-hour golf lessons for each of the eight., which will be
featured in the live auction later in the day.”
“It’s always nice to have a fresh venue, and we’re looking forward
to working with Lomas Santa Fe this year,” says Keely Tidrow, Casa de
Amparo’s annual fund manager. “Other ‘firsts’ for this event are new
sponsors such as Powerade and Dry Soda, and we’ll be celebrating Casa
de Amparo’s 30 years of service to the community with special festivities.” This will be the third year Grant General Contractors has served as
title sponsor for the event.
Player check-in begins at 10:30 a.m. and the shotgun tournament
starts at 12:30 p.m. A silent auction and cocktails begins at 5 p.m., followed by an awards dinner. The $250 ticket covers golf, lunch and the
