Rated as one of Connecticut’s Major Agricultural Fairs
This year is the fourth year of the second century of the Haddam
Neck Fair.
In the first century transportation went from largely horse and oxdrawn vehicles to trucks and automobiles. Food now comes from
supermarkets instead of the backyard. People work at jobs many
miles from Haddam Neck.
In the first century there was effort on the part of the Grange
organization and 4H to teach and promote better farming and
conservation practices to improve the quality of life. The Haddam
Neck Chapter of the Grange no longer exists, but 4H continues as
our kids continue to learn these basic living skills and demonstrate
them at the Fair.
In the second century there is increasing concern for caring for our
land and water resources and for a return to smaller, more local, and
natural farming.
May the Haddam Neck Fair, in its second century, continue its role
of promoting these values while remaining an independent, familyoriented, major social and agricultural event.

Since it began in 1909, the Haddam Neck Fair has been an entirely
volunteer operation, operating on its own without support from either
government or sponsoring organizations. It is supported entirely by the
funds it raises and by the hard work of its volunteers.
Rated by the State of Connecticut as a Major Agricultural Fair, we
are proud of the fact that we are able to maintain the small, country
atmosphere for which we are known in spite of rising commercialism and
the complications of modern life.
In order for the Fair to continue its traditions we must recruit new
volunteers on a continuous basis. The Fair runs smoothly because of an
experienced team, yet we like to pass along that experience in an orderly
fashion before it is lost and has to be relearned under stress.
Summer work nights are held this year on Wednesday nights from 6:00 pm,
and every night the week before the Fair. This is when we do all the various
maintenance and preparation chores to get ready for the Fair. Come bring
your tools and your skills and get to know us by working with us.
We can also use organizational and public relations skills as well as plain
old common sense. Come see why many of us come back year after year,
and share in the great satisfaction we feel each year as we pull it off again.

Scholarships for graduating seniors who help with the Fair
Shriners Hospital
Haddam Neck Fair Association Scholarships
The Haddam Neck Fair Association Scholarships may be awarded annually to
students who have actively volunteered for the Haddam Neck Fair including
the summer of the year of the application, are residents of Connecticut and are
enrolled at an accredited institution of higher education.
The Haddam Neck Fair Association Board of Directors will consider the following
criteria when awarding a scholarship:
• Fair participation
• Community involvement
• School activities
Applications must be postmarked by September 14, 2015.

Annual Scholarship Program
The Association of Connecticut Fairs, Inc. awards three scholarships of $1,000.00
each to a graduating high school senior or a current college student to assist
them with their education at an accredited institution of higher learning. One
scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior or college student who will
be pursuing a course of study in agriculture, home economics, or a related field
during the next school year, one to a graduating senior or college student who
will be pursuing a course of study in any field during the next school year, and
one to a graduating senior or college student to be chosen at the discretion of the
Scholarship Committee.
Rules
The applicant must be a high school senior or a current college student and
must be or have been an active participant or exhibitor in a member fair of
The Association of Connecticut Fairs, Inc. Applicants may be required to be
interviewed at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee.
Applicants must return the completed application form to the Haddam Neck Fair
Fair Secretary by May 15, 2016. The Secretary will forward screened and signed
applications to the Chair of the Scholarship Committee by May 30th. All questions
on the application must be answered to be considered for an award. An official
high school or college transcript must be attached in a sealed envelope.
Scholarship recipients will be notified of their award prior to July 1 of 2016.
Scholarships will be awarded at the Association of Connecticut Fairs, Inc. Annual
(Fall) Meeting. This meeting usually takes place in November. Winner need not
be present but we hope you would be in attendance.

Haddam Neck Fair Rules and Regulations
1.All exhibitors are required to pay admission to the Fair, unless holding a Livestock
Exhibitor Pass issued by the Department Chairman. These are limited to a maximum
of three per family and/or farm.
2. A limited number of campers are allowed on the grounds on a first come first serve
basis by permit only. Department Chairmen are responsible for issuing camper
permits. Any camper parked on the grounds without a permit or parked in an
unauthorized area or parked on the grounds prior to Wednesday before the fair
without prior permission may be removed at the owner’s expense. Electrical and water
hookups are not allowed and pump-out is not equipped for or allowed.
3. Dogs or other pets, leashed or not, are not allowed on the Fairgrounds or in vehicles
in the parking lots during the Fair. Bicycles are not allowed on the grounds during the
Fair.
4. Special awards may be made by the Directors for any worthy exhibit not classified.
5. The Directors take precautions for the protection of exhibits, animals and other
property on the grounds but are in no case responsible for damage or injury that may
occur.
6. All articles entered for competition must be entered in the name of the owner. All
grains, fruits, vegetables and flowers must have been raised by the exhibitor. The
registration of articles for competition will close at 6 pm on Friday, September 4th.
7.Exhibits may not be removed from the grounds before 5:00 pm Monday but must be
removed by 6:00 pm Monday.
8. Premiums for exhibits in the Fairhall, vegetable and flower shed,and education building
will be paid after 3:00 pm Monday. At the discretion of the Treasurer, premiums over
$50 may be paid by check.
9. All livestock must meet the minimum requirements of the Connecticut State
Department of Agriculture. (See web address on page 10)
10.Only people who are tending their livestock will be allowed to remain on the
Fairgrounds overnight. All others must leave at the conclusion of the day’s activities.
11. All decisions of judges are final. No person will be allowed to interfere with judges
while in discharge of their duties and should an exhibitor so interfere, his exhibit will
be disqualified.
12. No trucking allowance will be paid any exhibitor.
13. Vehicles are not allowed in exhibit areas during the Fair. They must be in designated
parking areas by 9:00 am each day or they may be towed at the owner’s expense.
14. Alcohol and beer may not be brought into the Fair in any form. Beer purchased at the
Beer Tent may be consumed in moderation in that area.
National Code of Show Ring Ethics
International Association of Fairs and Expositions (IAFE)
The Haddam Neck Fair supports in principle the National Code of Show Ring Ethics
as put forth by the International Association of Fairs and Expositions (IAFE). This
code has to do with honorable conduct on the part of exhibitors and on the ethical and
humane treatment of show animals. Copies are available from the Fair Secretary. This
code does not take precedence over existing rules of the Haddam Neck Fair in cases
where there are differences.
A Synopsis of Provisions Relating to the Haddam Neck Fair
All youth leaders working with junior exhibitors are under an affirmative responsibility
to do more than avoid improper conduct or questionable acts. Their moral values must
be so certain and positive that those younger and more pliable will be influenced by
their fine example.
Animals shall not be administered drugs other than in accordance with applicable
federal, state and provincial statutes, regulations and rules. Livestock shall not be
exhibited if the drugs administered in accordance with federal, state and provincial
statutes, regulations and rules affect the animal’s performance or appearance at the event.
If the laboratory report on the analysis of saliva, urine, blood, or other sample taken
from livestock indicates the presence of forbidden drugs or medication, this shall
be prima facie evidence such substance has been administered to the animal either
internally or externally.
At any time after an animal arrives on the Fairgrounds, all treatments involving the use
of drugs and/or medications for the sole purpose of protecting the health of the animal
shall be administered by a licensed veterinarian.
Any surgical procedure or injection of any foreign substance or drug or the external
application of any substance (irritant, counterirritant, or similar substance) which could
affect the animal’s performance or alter its natural contour, confirmation, or appearance,
except external applications of substances to the hoofs or horns of animals which affect
appearance only and except for surgical procedures performed by a duly licensed
veterinarian for the sole purpose of protecting the health of the animal, is prohibited.
The use of showing and/or handling practices or devices such as striking animals to
cause swelling, using electrical contrivance, or other similar practices are not acceptable
and are prohibited.
Direct criticism or interference with the judge, fair or livestock show management,
other exhibitors, breed representatives, or show officials before, during, or after the
competitive event is prohibited. In the furtherance of their official duty, all judges, fair
and livestock show management, or other show officials shall be treated with courtesy,
cooperation and respect and no person shall direct abusive or threatening conduct
toward them.
No owner, exhibitor, fitter, trainer, or absolutely responsible person shall conspire with
another person or persons to intentionally violate this code of ethics or knowingly
contribute or cooperate with another person or persons either by affirmative action or
inaction to violate this code of ethics. Violation of this rule shall subject such individual
to disciplinary action.

While not a competition, the Haddam Neck General Store is a unique part of our
Fair in that it reflects the Haddam Neck Community through the skills of our
residents as shown by the items for sale here.
Rules:
In addition to being a resident of Haddam Neck, each participant offering items for
sale must qualify as follows:
✬ Items must have been produced in Haddam Neck, from scratch. Kit projects
or items purchased for resale are not eligible.
✬Each entrant, or parent, if the entrant is under 16 years of age at Fairtime,
incurs an obligation to help run the booth during the Fair.
✬ The entrant understands that due to space restrictions and in fairness to all,
it may not be possible to display all items simultaneously. It is the obligation
of the participant to check periodically and replenish the supply as necessary
during the Fair.
✬ Items for sale should be put in place between 3 pm and 6 pm on Friday

2015 Baking Contests Rules

Each year The Association of Connecticut Fairs sponsors baking contests open to
the public at participating member fairs. Separate contests for Junior and Senior
divisions baking a specific recipe are held. An Apple Pie Baking contest is also held.
WHO MAY ENTER: The contest at each participating member fair is open to all
men, women and juniors who are residents of Connecticut. Commercial, industrial
or professional bakers are not eligible. Divisions: Juniors (ages 7 to 15 as of July 1st)
and Senior
HOW TO ENTER: Any Connecticut resident entering a contest at any
participating member fair is automatically entered and competing in the local
contest. Contestants may enter the contest at as many fairs as they wish until
they win first prize. They will then represent that fair at the state baking contest.
Please submit entries to both the local and state contest on disposable plates. The
Association of Connecticut Fairs and the member fairs are not responsible for the
return of plates, trays or containers.
JUDGING: Judging will be based on appearance, flavor and texture. The
Association of Connecticut Fairs will furnish judges’ score sheets to each fair
and the contestant will receive these sheets at the end of the contest. Additions,
deletions or substitutions in the recipe are not permitted and will result in
disqualification. All decisions of the judges are final.
LOCAL CONTEST: The winner of the Haddam Neck Fair contest will receive
a blue ribbon from the Association of Connecticut Fairs and will then become
eligible to submit their entry at the state contest. In the event that only one entry is
received at the local contest and that entry is worthy of first prize, that entry must
be awarded the first place ribbon.
STATE CONTEST: The state contest is held as part of the Fall Meeting and
Convention of the Association of Connecticut Fairs. Entries for the state contest
are accepted until 11:00 a.m. on the day of the judging (contact your local fair or
visit www.ctagfairs.org for the date and location). Contest winners are announced
at the Fall Meeting. Each fair is responsible for contacting their contest winner
and providing them with information. The Association of Connecticut Fairs does
not contact individual fairs or contest winners in regards to contest and banquet
reservations nor does the Association of Connecticut Fairs cover the costs of
attending the awards banquet. NO BANQUET RESERVATIONS FOR CONTEST
WINNERS WILL BE ACCEPTED AT THE DOOR.

2015 Adult Baking Contest Recipe
Anadama Bread
Ingredients
¾ cup milk
½ cup plus 1 tablespoon yellow cornmeal
1/3 cup molasses
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 teaspoon salt
¼ cup lukewarm water (105 to 115 degrees F)
1 packet (¼ ounce) active dry yeast
1½ teaspoon sugar
1 large egg, slightly beaten
3 cups King Arthur Flour All-Purpose Flour
Directions
In a small saucepan, bring the milk just to a boil. Add the ½ cup of cornmeal, the
molasses, butter, and salt; cool to lukewarm in a large bowl.
Meanwhile, in a cup, combine the water, yeast, and sugar; let stand for 10 minutes
or until foamy, then stir into the cornmeal mixture. Beat in the egg and 1 cup of
flour, then the remaining flour until a soft dough forms.
Knead for 5 minutes or until smooth and elastic. Transfer the dough to a buttered
bowl, turning to coat with the butter. Cover loosely and let rise in a warm place
for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Butter a 9" x 5" x 3" loaf pan. Punch down the dough and knead gently for 2
minutes. Shape into a loaf, place in the pan, seam-side-down, and sprinkle with
the remaining cornmeal. Cover; let rise for 45 minutes or until doubled. Preheat
the oven to 350 degrees F. Bake for 45 minutes.
Cool in the pan on a rack for 10 minutes. Remove from pan to completely cool.
Makes 1 loaf.
Submit on foil-covered cardboard cut to no larger than one inch of the size of the
loaf.
2015 Junior Baking Contest Recipe
Toast & Sandwich Bread
Ingredients
2 teaspoons instant yeast
2 tablespoons sugar
1 cup lukewarm milk, 100 – 110º F
1½ teaspoons salt
3 cups King Arthur Unbleached All-Purpose Flour
2 tablespoons butter, melted
Directions
In a large mixing bowl, combine all of the ingredients until the dough comes
together.
Turnout onto surface and knead four to five minutes until the dough is soft and
smooth.
Transfer the dough to a lightly greased bowl, cover it, and allow it to rise about
1 hour, or until it doubled in bulk. Shape the dough into a loaf, and place it in a
greased 8½ x 4½-inch loaf pan.
Tent the dough with a proof cover or lightly greased plastic wrap, and allow it to
rise for about 1 hour, or until it has crowned 1 to 2 inches over the rim of the loaf
pan.
Bake the bread in a preheated 350°F oven for 35 to 40 minutes, or until it tests done
(its internal temperature will read 190°F on an instant-read thermometer).
Remove the bread from the pan to cool.
Submit on a foil-covered cardboard cut to no larger than one inch of the size of the
loaf.

Connecticut State Quilt Contest
The following rules apply to any quilts which are to qualify for the State Quilt
Contest, which takes place at the Fall meeting of the Association of Connecticut
Fairs. Complete information is available from the Fair Secretary or at
ctagfairs.org
Categories:
1. Hand Applique
2.Patchwork.
(Tied quilts and Pre-cut Quilt Kits do not qualify)
Contest Rules:
1. All work must be completed by an individual quilt maker.
2. Work can be pieced by hand or by machine but applique must be done by hand.
3. Quilts may be hand or machine quilted
4.To qualify for an applique quilt, the quilt must be at least 50% applique.
5. All four sides, when added together, must measure a minimum of 216 inches total.
6. No wall hanging.
7. A quilt can only compete in the Association of Connecticut Fairs quilt contest once.

Judging and awards are based on your adherence to the guidelines described as
part of each category you enter. Please read the categories carefully as well as
materials for design and horticulture class.
Registration Times for the 2015 Fair
Thursday, September 3rd, from 4pm to 8 pm
Friday, September 4th, from 3 pm to 6 pm.
Judging is Friday evening, starting at 7 pm
Material For Design Class
• Exhibitors are asked to name all materials used in the design arrangements.
• An arrangement implies the use of any plant material, a container, and the
base on which it stands, if appropriate.
• No artificial foliage or flowers are permitted in any class, specified in the
design detail.
• Purchased commercial floral material is accepted for design class only.
• Designs are judged on condition of material, suitable containers, overall
balance, color and adherence to the theme of the fair year for each class.
• Accessories can be accepted in all artistic design class entries.
Containers
Exhibitors need to supply containers for all horticulture specimens. Please be
aware that you are being judged on overall presentation and your container is
therefore part of your entry.
Display
Covered tables and shelves for entries will be provided.
The Haddam Neck Fair will make every effort to care for all exhibits, but cannot be
held responsible for damage.

annual “Wee Faerie Village” event at the Florence Griswold Museum. Minimal

Class II “Harkness Memorial State Park” — Design of choice to mark this
historical seaside Renaissance Revival mansion, and the Italian, Oriental or cutting

Class III “Hillstead Museum” — Colonial Revival House designed by one of

Mail in entry forms as soon as possible to the above address, since space is limited.
We wish to accommodate as many exhibitors as possible, so the number of animals
each exhibitor may bring will be limited. Entries accepted until pens are full.
Please indicate breed of animal on entry form and enclose a copy of current health
papers with entry form along with an entry fee of $2 per animal.
There is a limit of 10 animals per family and/or farm.
Animals may be penned Friday, 12 Noon – 5 pm to avoid opening traffic.
A current health certificate must be shown to the superintendent prior to
unloading animals, and the superintendent will make a health inspection for
conformance to state health regulations before allowing an animal to be penned or
remain on the grounds.
Animal bedding will be provided upon arrival.
Farm displays, pen decorations, and any other creative ideas to attract interest and
educate the public about Dairy Goats will be greatly appreciated.
Please keep the area in front of the pens clear of soiled bedding, and maintain farm
displays in good condition for the duration of the fair.
Breed Classes will be determined by entries.
There will be no pre-show milk-out.
However, any animal showing excessive
udder distension will be excused from the
show ring.
Dressing in dairyman whites, and fitting
the animals for show is required.
Animals must remain on the Fairgrounds
until 5pm Monday.
Exhibitors are required to rake out pens
prior to leaving the fair.

Horse Show Rules
Only Riders will be allowed free entry into the Fair; all others will be required to
pay admission. The Haddam Neck Fair’s NO DOGS Policy applies. All trucks and
trailers must be parked in an orderly manner in the designated area. All other
vehicles must be parked in the general parking lot, with no exceptions. Vehicles
not parked properly will be towed at the owner’s expense. The Haddam Neck Fair
Horse Show will use The New England 4-H Horse Show Rule Book as their official
rulebook. This rulebook may be found at www.4-h.uconn.edu under publications.
Health Regulations – The Haddam Neck Fair adheres strictly to State of
Connecticut Regulations. A photo copy of current Coggins & Rabies certificates
must be submitted to the show secretary with each entry. May be mailed, or
emailed to [email protected] or faxed to 860-345-3357 attention horse show to
save time the morning of the show. Must be received by September 4th by 5pm.
Age Divisions – All ages will be based on the rider’s age as of January 1, of the
current year. Only human age and ability level will be used to determine division
entry. All beginner riders are combined youth and adult. Adult riders are walk/
trot/canter or walk/jog/lope riders who are 18 and over as of 1/1/15. Open
Divisions are open to all walk/trot/canter or walk/jog/lope riders. Lead line riders
may be any age. Lead Line and beginner riders may only enter classes within their
divisions. Youth open to all riders under age 18.
Entry Fees – Classes are $10.00 each. Jumping Warm Up is $5.00. The Classic
Classes are $15.00 and special prizes and ribbons will be awarded in these classes.
The Jackpot is $20. A post entry fee $20.00 will be charged for any entry not
received by September 4, 2015 There will be a $50 charge for any returned check.
The Haddam Neck Fair reserves the right to refuse entry to anyone with an
outstanding balance from last year.
Prizes & Payback – 6 ribbons and a trophy/prize will be awarded in each class, and
in addition, a payout of $15 for 1st, $10 for 2nd and $5 for 3rd. Classes must have a
minimum of 6 in class for payback. No payback for Classics & Lead Line: there will
be ribbons for all lead line participants.
Attire and Equipment – ASHA/SEI APPROVED & PROPERLY FITTED HARD
HATS – with harnesses are required for all riders & drivers whenever mounted
or driving, who are under the age of 19 regardless of riding seat or style. They

are also required for all jumping classes. We encourage all Adult participants to
wear hard hats to set a good example to our youth. Proper attire is required for all
English and Western classes. Gymkhana attire – Jeans and tee shirts are permitted
but proper riding boots are required for all riders. No tank tops or spaghetti straps
allowed. Martingales will be permitted in fence & gymkhana classes only.
Behavior and Designated Area – The Haddam Neck Fair Association and the
Haddam Neck Fair Horse Show Committee will not be responsible for injury to
animals, persons, or damage to property of exhibitors or spectators. Horses are
allowed only in designated areas. Horses are to be led or ridden at the walk only
in these areas. The rider of any horse found outside of the designated area or
violating the above rule may be asked to leave and their entry fees will be forfeited.
Any persons causing risk of injury to himself or other exhibitors, spectators, or
showing unnecessary roughness or being discourteous will be disqualified from
further competition, and receive no refund.
Horses – All known kickers must identify themselves with a red ribbon. The judge
may excuse a horse or rider for unfitness, mistreatment, or health concerns. No
Stallions are allowed. Decision of the Judge is final.

Class Descriptions
Small Equine In-Hand Discipline – Open to horses or ponies 12 hands or under. To
be shown at the walk & trot. Judges may ask for any of the following commands: walk,
extended walk, trot, extended trot, side-pass, back along the rail, stand, halt, reverse at
any gait, or any other command as the judges deems fit.
Small Equine In-Hand Jumping – Open to horses or ponies 12 hands or under. To be
shown over a course of jumps. Course will be posted.
Small Equine In-Hand Obstacle – Open to horses or ponies 12 hands or under. To be
judged over a series of obstacles that might be encountered on the trail. Will be on an
outside course. Course will be posted. Measurements will be taken if deemed necessary.
Horses do not have to be registered.
Reinsmanship Driving – Judged on the skill of the driver and their communication
with the horse. To be shown both ways of the ring at the walk, jog trot, and working trot
or alternate gaits. May be asked to rein back.
Pleasure Driving – Judged on the suitability of horse to provide a pleasant drive. To
be shown at a walk, trot & extended trot both ways of the ring. Must stand quietly and
back readily. An adult may ride as an attendant.
Obstacle Driving – To be driven as a performance class. To be driven at the trot over
a prescribed course of obstacles. After passing through the starting line the competitor
shall proceed through each obstacle to the designated finish line. Time will be used to
break ties only. Horses who canter will be penalized. In the event of a tie a drive off will
be required.
Equitation and Horsemanship – Exhibitors may be asked to perform an individual
test, and will be judged on rider’s seat, hands, the performance of the horse and
suitability of the horse and rider.
Pleasure – Judged on horse’s ability to provide a pleasurable ride. Should be shown on a
reasonably loose rein with light contact.
Discipline – Judged on ability to perform, immediately and correctly, the judge’s
commands. Riders will not be eliminated for a fault.
Green Horse – Open to horses in the first two years of showing. Not open to beginner
riders. Horses may cross-enter into another division as long as their tack is not changed
and the horse is not to be ridden by a beginner.
Lead Line – Halter with leadline attached under bridle. No age limit. Open to riders
who are UNABLE to handle a horse safely on their own. To be judged at a walk and trot
or jog. Must be led by an adult for safety purposes, but the rider should have control
of the animal. Open to English and Western riders who have never shown in any class
other than lead line.
Beginner Walk Trot & Beginner Adult Walk Trot – Open to riders who have never
shown at a canter/lope.
Trail – The course will consist of up to ten obstacles. The rider will be allowed three
tries at each.
The John Chiarella Memorial Classic – will have an equitation pattern then pleasure
on the rail.
The Dick Woolam Memorial Classic 4-H Equitation Classic – will be judged as an
equitation class and may have a pattern.

Rules – Draft Oxen Events
Draft Cattle must be Tuberculin Tested and Rabies Vaccinated.
The Rules, as adopted by the Connecticut Ox Owners and Drivers Association,
will be strictly enforced.
All animals in show and drawing contest must be on the grounds by 8:30 am and
remain until close of fair.
Oxen will be driven with a whip and lash or wooden goad sticks only.
Teams will be weighed on Fairgrounds at a time designated by the chairman.
No stepping up in classes 1, 3 or 4.

Requirements
Exhibitors may enter photos in any of the following categories. There is a limit of
8 photos, total, per person. All pictures must be matted, not framed and have a
title. Framed photographs will not be accepted. There will be separate judging for
entries submitted by those under 16. Over 16 are considered to be adults. Pictures

2015 PHOTO CONTEST
The theme for the annual photo contest is “ Connecticut Fairs.” The photos
submitted should show general scenes around our member fairs. Photos must
have been taken after September 30,2014. The photos entered do not have to be
exhibited at any member fairs to be eligible.
Contest Rules
Official entry from will be on the Association of Connecticut Fairs web page,
www.ctfairs.org
This contest is open to anybody regardless of age. Professional photographers are not
eligible. The person entering the contest must take the photo submitted.
There will be no entry fee to enter this contest. The Association of Connecticut Fairs
will not be responsible for any lost or damaged photos submitted to the contest.
The photographer’s name, date, photo title, location of where each photo was taken
must appear on the reverse side of each photo.
Each exhibitor may enter a maximum of two (2) photos in each lot.
A photo taken can not be entered into more than one lot.
Salon print exhibitors cannot enter the Snapshot contest.
All entries must be submitted no later than 6:00 pm Sunday October 4, 2015 to any of
the committee members.
All entries become property of the Association of Connecticut Fairs.
Contest winners will be announced at the Annual Fall Meeting and Banquet. Please
visit www.ctfairs.org for the date, time and location of the meeting.
In the event that less than ten (10) prints or snapshots are entered in either the black
& white or color lots, the two lots will be combined and only one set of awards will be
made. Awards will be given at the judge’s discretion if the number of entries does not
justify the five (5) awards.
The Association of Connecticut Fairs reserves the rights to reproduce any and all entries
with the photographers’ by line. One photo may be chosen to appear on the cover
of the “Association of Connecticut Fairs” booklet from the previously judged contest
winners.
The overall contest winner will receive one (1) REDUCED RATE TICKET for the
upcoming season.
A photo contest will be held at the Annual Fair Meeting and Banquet in which all
registered meeting attendees will vote to determine the winner.

1. This department is open to all. Poultry exhibits include chickens, turkeys,
game birds and bantam water fowl.

Mail in entry forms as soon as possible, since space is limited. We wish to
accommodate as many exhibitors as possible, so the number of animals each
exhibitor may bring may be limited.
Please indicate breed of animal on entry form and enclose a copy of current health
papers along with an entry fee of $2.00 per animal
Entries will be accepted until pens are full.
Animals may be penned Friday, 2 pm to 5 pm to avoid opening traffic.
A current health certificate must be shown to the superintendent prior to
unloading animals, and the superintendent will make a health inspection for
conformity to state health regulations before allowing an animal to be penned or
remain on the grounds.
Animal bedding will be provided upon arrival.
Animals should be reasonably clean and trimmed.
Farm displays, pen decorations, and any other creative ideas to attract interest and
educate the public about sheep will be greatly appreciated.
Please keep the area in front of the pens clear of soiled bedding, and maintain farm
displays in good condition for the duration of the Fair.
Breed Classes will be determined by entries.
Dressing for showmanship and fitting the animals for show is required.
Animals must remain on the Fairgrounds until 5 pm Monday.
Exhibitors are required to rake out pens prior to leaving the fair.

1.Tractors must be 1955 or older and on rubber tires. Iron wheeled tractors
are for display only.
2.Tractors cannot be modified to improve performance and must be stock
appearing. Some non-standard replacement parts are allowed where
factory items are no longer available. Engines must be controlled by a
functioning governor.
3. Working implements must be removed, while belt pulleys, PTO and three
point hitch equipment may be removed. Factory weights and loaded tires
are permitted.
4.Tractors must be equipped with wheelie bars and fixed hooking rings.
5. Pulling pit is fourteen feet wide. The weight sled is pulled in alternate
directions and a full pull is twenty feet.

Rules and Vehicle Specifications
1. The consumption of alcohol by drivers or crew in pit or pulling areas is not
allowed. Participants may be subject to testing and violation will result in
disqualification.

4. Driver must be 18 years of age or older or have written parental consent
5. Seat belts and helmets are to be worn and fastened at all times

10. Hitch point must be secure. Reese hitches are allowed. Hitch height not to
