WildAid-Whale Shark Trip 2016
LET WILDAID GUIDE YOU ON THE
WHALE SHARK ADVENTURE OF A
LIFETIME IN ISLA MUJERES,
MEXICO!
Experience the largest known whale shark aggregation
on earth in clear blue Caribbean waters. This
incredible experience will be led and documented by
world-class guides and photographers.
In addition to swimming with these majestic
giants, you can explore Isla Mujeres’ natural
surroundings and activities or just relax on the beach.
THE ITINERARY
ARRIVAL: JULY 17, 2016
Arrive at Cancun International Airport, where a WildAid representative will meet you. Travel 30 minutes by private
shuttle to the port and enjoy a 20-minute high-speed ferry ride to Isla Mujeres. You will be greeted at the ferry terminal
in Isla Mujeres and shuttled five minutes to the Privilege Aluxes hotel.
SHARK SWIM: JULY 18-20
We depart between 7-9am by boat to the whale shark snorkeling area. If the whale sharks are gathering in a predictable
location, we should be in the water within 45 minutes. We snorkel in groups of three, rotating in/out of the water. This is
your chance to get a professional photo of you with a magnificent whale shark! Last year, we were greeted by hundreds
of manta rays as well and hope they will return in 2016!
The topside action is spectacular with incredible photo opportunities, so time out of the water is well spent. In the water,
you will likely encounter a number of whale sharks within the first five minutes. Words cannot describe the beauty and
closeness of the whale sharks and the excitement that you will feel.
Though a wet suit is required and provided for you, the water is actually quite warm. You likely will be swimming a LOT
so we recommend comfortable full-foot fins with neoprene socks (leave your heavy/stiff open-heel fins at home)*. Our
boats have sun cover but bring plenty of sun lotion with high SPF, as you will be exposed to lots of sun.
In the evening, join Peter Knights and the WildAid Team for drinks and appetizers at the hotel before we head to dinner
as a group.
DEPARTURE: JULY 21
We will arrange your travel from the hotel back to the mainland and
Cancun International Airport.
*While a snorkel and mask will be provided for each guest, we recommend purchasing these items and having them
professionally fitted.

ABOUT WILDAID
WildAid’s mission is to end the illegal wildlife trade in our lifetimes by reducing demand through public awareness
campaigns and providing comprehensive marine protection.
The illegal wildlife trade is estimated to be worth over $10 billion (USD) per year and has drastically reduced many
wildlife populations around the world. Just like the drug trade, law and enforcement efforts have not been able to resolve
the problem. Every year, hundreds of millions of dollars are spent protecting animals in the wild, yet virtually nothing is
spent on stemming the demand for wildlife parts and products.
WildAid is the only organization to solely focus on reducing the demand for wildlife products. Working with hundreds of
Asian and Western celebrities and business leaders, including Jackie Chan, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Sir Richard Branson,
WildAid’s public service messages and educational initiatives reach hundreds of millions of people a week in China alone
through donated media space. For more information: www.wildaid.org.
