Annual Report - Kodai Friends International
Kodai Friends
International
November 1,2010
Gene Hennig
President
Dear Alumni and Friends of Kodai School:
Once again it is our pleasure to provide you with this Annual Report of the activities of
Kodai Friends International, Inc. ("KFI").
This past year was indeed a time of transition, both for Kodaikanal International School
("KlS") and for KFI. As of July 1, Adrian Moody assumed the reins as the new principal ofKlS,
and, on the same date, Anil Henry took over the leadership of the KlS Council. At the same
time, we welcomed both Adrian and Anil as new members of our KFI Board of Directors. Other
new additions we were pleased to have join our Board included Chris Granner ('75), Roxanna
Khan ('82) and Lynda Nyce ('87).
We were also able to get KFI organized to a greater extent than had been the case
previously. Much of the credit for this goes to our Executive Director, Jerry Nichol, whose
steadfast attention to detail was commendable. Our books and records are now up-to-date, an
audit of KFI's financial statements for its fiscal year ended June 30, 2010 has been completed,
and we have recently filed our Annual Report on Form 990 with the Internal Revenue Service.
In all of these ways and more KFI became a more established organization since the time it was
created in 2006.
The primary work of KFI, as we have mentioned before, continues to be the management
of a significant endowment fund for the benefit of Kodai School. It is also in a position, as a taxexempt organization under Section 50I(c)(3) of the U.S. tax laws, to receive tax deductible
contributions from Kodai School alumni and friends located in the United States. Beyond the
fmancial functions just mentioned, KFI assists both the School and the Kodaikanal International
School Alumni Association ("KlSAA") in other ways. These ways include approving staff
resettlement grants, supplemental funding for the principal's salary, special grants for particular
projects in need of support, and the funding of scholarships.
Through your donations and KFI's additional funds from investments, the following
requests from KIS were granted in 2009-2010:

We are most thankful for the support shown by those listed on the attached Donor Contribution
Summary during this time of transition and growth at Kodai School. Our School has indeed
meant much to many of us, and with your continued support it can continue to exist as one of the
premier international schools in India and beyond.
As we conclude this Annual Report, we encourage you to contribute generously to the
2010-2011 KIS Annual Fund, which is working towards establishing the KIS Excellence in
Education Scholarship. All of you should by now have received correspondence from the
School that describes this worthy project in further detail. With your help, this scholarship will
help fund the full education costs for a student entering Grade 9 through their graduation in
Grade 12. We urge you to give, and to give generously, as you are able.
Thank you very much.
Most sincerely,
The KFI Board of Directors
