To the Parents and Campers of Camp Discovery,
As many of you have read, Camp Discovery has expanded into a
much larger camp this year! This summer we have split Camp
Discovery into two age groups known as the Explorers (Grades K-2)
and the Trailblazers (Grades 3-6).
Our staff is looking forwards to meeting all of our new campers and
cannot wait to help make this summer a positive experience for
everyone! The following bios are meant to help you get to know our
Directors and Leaders. Enjoy!

Staff Bio
Sam DeSantis just finished her
graduate degree at the University of
Connecticut in Elementary Education.
She is looking forward to beginning
her teaching career in the fall. While
she is running around getting ready
for camp, she also enjoys going for
runs! Sam is very experienced in
camps, and attended Camp Playland
of Redding as a kid. She worked there
as a counselor for three summers. Her
favorite camp activities include any
field sports and singing camp songs.
Sam will welcome any challengers to
learn the Cup Song which she LOVES.
Her favorite Disney character is
Mulan who is strong and inspiringjust like Sam!
Patrick Kilkenny Patrick, also
known as “Sully” (Yes, like the big
blue monster from Monsters, Inc”) is
excited to be returning to his third
year at Camp Discovery. Patrick is a
junior at Colgate University, and
recently returned from studying
abroad. While he loves being a
student, he is very excited for another
Camp Discovery summer. He is an
experienced counselor, and has also
coached at various basketball camps.
He loves any outdoor games and
sports during Camp. Patrick’s favorite
song is “I’ll Make a Man Out of You”
from the Mulan soundtrack. He may
try singing this during field sports- so
stay tuned for his impromptu
performances! Patrick loves all
superheroes, but Batman is certainly
his favorite!

Kathryn Andrea recently
graduated from Providence College
with a Bachelors degree in Elementary
and Special Education. In the Fall she
will be attending Vanderbilt
University in Nashville, Tennessee.
She has been to Horseback Riding
Camp as well as Awesome Adventures
Camp in Glastonbury. Her favorite
camp activity is to pretend she is
Picasso, working on Arts and Crafts.
She is known for her excellent lip
syncing skills to the infamous “Bye
Bye Bye” by N’Sync. Her favorite
Disney character would have to be
Olaf from “Frozen”.
Bobby Surface graduated from
Eastern Connecticut State University
with a Bachelors Degree in History.
He is currently working as a
paraprofessional at Hanmer
Elementary School in Wethersfield
and working towards his Master’s in
Special Education. It is Bobby’s third
year as a counselor at Camp
Discovery, and he is very excited to
meet his new campers! Bobby is a true
legend when it comes to his favorite
camp activity, drumroll please….
Capture the Flag. Be ready for a
challenge, campers! Bobby likes to
listen to “Wake Me Up” by Avicii, and
his all-time favorite superheroes are
the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Victoria Hervieux currently
attends UConn as a Music
Education Student. She stays busy
as a Private Violin Teacher and
works as a Chamber Music
Instructor at Community School of
the Arts. This is Victoria’s 2 year as
Camp Discovery leader. She
absolutely loves music and is so
excited for another wonderful
camp season in Glastonbury! Arts
and crafts are Victoria’s favorite
camp activities and she will take
any excuse to color and get covered
in glitter. Her favorite song is “I
Hope You Dance” by Lee Ann
Womack. Her favorite Disney
princess is the swimming
sensation, Ariel.

Avery Beamon is currently a
student at Johnson and Wales
University in Rhode Island. During
the year she works at Healthtrax gym
in the Kidzone. One of her favorite
hobbies includes baking. She has
previously worked at the Lutz
Children Museum Camp. Avery is
quite the artist when it comes to
completing any arts and crafts.
Another one of Avery’s favorite
hobbies is singing along to her
favorite song, “Blank Space” by Taylor
Swift. The beautiful Princess Tiana is
her favorite Disney character!
Julia Zagaja is a rising senior
attending the University of
Connecticut, after transferring from
West Point in the Fall of 2014. She is
studying Elementary Education and
looking forward to student teaching!
Julia has been a Girl Scout Camp
counselor in the past, and also
attended different camps as a child.
Her favorite camp activity would have
to be swimming and adventuring on
new field trips! She can often be found
jamming to “Heroes” by Alesso. Some
people say she even looks like Anna
from Frozen (which happens to be her
favorite character!). Julia is so excited
for Camp Discovery!
Andrew Jones is counting down the
days until Camp Discover begins. He
is currently a student at University of
Rochester, entering in his sophomore
year as an Epidemiology Major.
During the school year he stays busy
studying but also works as an EMT.
While this is his first year at Camp
Discovery, Andrew has worked at
summer camps for the past three
years. He loves Frisbee, and is often
caught singing along to the song,
“Paradise City” by Guns n’ Roses.
Andrew’s favorite superhero would
have to be Spiderman!
