You may have heard of football’s FANTASY LEAGUE –
where amateurs try to put together the perfect team, picking
star players and deciding each week who to play. Each
Team (fantasy or professional) has a common goal = to win
the Super Bowl. Well, this summer, through our sermon series, we are looking at GOD’S FANTASY LEAGUE.
You see, some 2000 years ago, God put together the
ULTIMATE FANTASY TEAM – the original 12 Disciples.
In some ways, each local church is a “Fantasy Team” for
God – striving to achieve the same common goal. The Super
Bowl for United Methodists in Wisconsin is “Making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” When you put all those local churches (each a Fantasy Team) together,
you got GOD’S FANTASY LEAGUE!
Just as each player on a football team (or any sports team) is chosen for a reason, so were
each of the original 12. By studying the life of each Disciple, we will discover the leadership
qualities or character traits we need to foster on our own Fantasy Teams in Eastman and
Wauzeka. So far, we’ve looked at… Simon the Zealot – chosen for his ZEALOUSNESS
(passionate enthusiasm) and
Thaddaeus – chosen for his compassionate QUESTIONING. Did you know that all 4 lists of
the Disciples in Scripture organize them in the same way = 3 groups of 4. Some worshippers
can already name all 12 disciples. Can you with the following hints?
Group 1 = contained two sets of brothers;
Group 2 = P + B + M + T;
Group 3 = one shares the first name of a disciple in Group 1 + another has 3
names + another’s name is the same as the “original” name of a member of
Group 1 + the last one always listed is one everyone knows.
[See answers below]
Each week the Sermon Notes include the Disciple’s Shield and an image of the Disciple
as portrayed by Kenneth Wyatt. I hope to be able to make copies of this sermon series available
to anyone interested.

July 12-20 our “missionaries” will be in Dallas, Texas. Please
pray that our youth might experience the presence of Christ
through their missionary efforts AND that others might experience
Christ through them. [1st year] Wauzeka – Sammi Groom, Macy Curtis, [Dayne
Krachey], [Allison Oswald], [Nellie Groom], [Siena Krachey], [counselor Phyllis
Groom]; Eastman – Owen Feye, Megan Klema, Sarah Shepard, Dani Boland,
counselor Rachel Jones. This year youth from the Wauzeka
Lutheran Church will be joining our missionaries. They include Nicole Dable, Jerica
Rush, Jadyn Sanders, Avery Wilepski. During the trip, be sure to CHECK OUT
THE WEBSITE = (www).sidekickmissions.com for current photos and updates.
Congratulations to our youth and young adults who celebrated major accomplishments this past month.
We pray God will continue to guide them in their journey through life. They include: U.W. Platteville – Lacy Granzow; S.W. Tech – Ryan Konichek, Scott Schreck; High School – Hannah Atkinson,
Brianna Brockway, Jack Feye, Michael Granzow, Lucas Klema, Julia Pintz, Olivia Skemp; Eighth
Grade – Nellie Groom, Dayne Krachey, Allison Oswald
E – VBS August 11-14
Mark your calendar!
Our “best ever” Vacation Bible School will be Monday through Thursday evenings. We
are looking for items to help decorate. If you have any of the following, please bring
them to church and/or contact Cindy Payne 734-9443: old tools, paint brushes, any
workbench items. For those who are “garage sale” enthusiasts, we are looking for
Legos, Connects, Lincoln Logs and Tinker Toys.
Any donation would be greatly appreciated!
Our sympathy and prayers go to the family and friends
whose loved ones have found new life with Christ
Dorothy Reiger (life-long supporter of St.Paul’s UMC)
Bill Schwarz (husband of Evelyn, father of Butch & Paul)
(E) A note from your friendly Treasurer - Kari Kronberg ☺
With the “rush rush rush” of the summer months in full swing, attendance at Sunday
services seems to slide. Unfortunately, the church bills are not allowed to slide also.
Please keep in mind that we have the same bills in the summer months as we do
during the rest of the year, but it is that much harder to pay them when our weekly
deposits from the summer offerings tend to be almost half of what we regularly have. It is very important to the maintenance of the church for all of us to do our best not to let our donations slide, even if
our attendance does. Every little bit helps! Thank you in advance for your attention to this problem!
