New Club Championship Match Play Coming
in December
Golfers, watch for more information about a new
match play tournament series
to identify our Club Champions. Nine hole qualifying for
seeding begins in December
with the matches commencing in January. To learn more
details now, indicate interest
in competing or to volunteer to help, contact Craig

Protect your Investment
Since you own the Golf Course
and pay for it, protect your
investment by keeping your
dogs, bicycles and non-golfing
children off of the course, by
taking care of dents on the
green with a divot repair tool
(available in the score card box at the first tee) and
by filling the huge rents in the turf on the tees using
the repair mix available by almost every tee. The
condition of the course affects its playability and
YOUR PROPERTY VALUES.
Remember that all garage bays but one must
be used to park automobiles before any
additional automobiles may be parked on
your driveway. If you experience a short term
parking problem (such as a visiting family
member or guest or a contractor storing
material within your garage) please call Audrey
at Mauzy Management (888) 513-9945. Do
not wait until you receive a “Call to a Hearing
Letter” to explain a special situation.

West Pool and front of Palacio:
Remove the impatiens at the round planter and ready the area
for pansies. Need to trim the palm fronds overhanging the tennis court. Irrigation at the entrance is being improved so that
there will be less water runoff. Pansies to be planted first week
in November.

East Pool and drive around Palacio:
Irrigation at entrance to east pool is being improved so that
there will be less water runoff. The pots around the pool look
very good. They are full and colorful. Grass area just to the east
of the pool area is going to be replaced by plants.
The children’s playground is looking good. Trees are healthy
and have recovered. The benches need to be cleaned. Birds of
Paradise and flax to be planted at the west entrance to the east
greenbelt.
The sycamore tree in front of the clubhouse needs to be
trimmed.
Plant of the Month – Pittosporum tenuifolium (Kohuhu)
A beautiful, elegant, fast growing dense evergreen upright
shrub or small tree that grows to 20
to 30 feet tall. It has glossy medium
green oval slightly undulating leaves
that are held on dark, nearly black
stems. There is also a variegated variety. Plant in full sun or part shade
with occasional watering. Hardy
to 15–20º F. An excellent plant for
hedging and shelter.
NEW RULE
REGARDING GUESTS JUST
FOR THE FITNESS CENTER:
Each resident household may have a maximum of TWO guests at any time using the
fitness center. The guests must be accompanied by the resident.
The Palacio Post November 2012 Page 3

Treasurer’s Report – John Walsh
Total Assets as of August 31st were $1,073,219
compared to $1,072,334 on July 30th, 2012. August
had a net surplus of $14,387 compared to a budgeted
surplus of $12,512. Insurance and Facilities Maintenance/Repairs were below budget accounting for the
overall favorableness from budget.
Year to date we have a deficit of $30,659 compared to
budget. Nearly half of that occurred from spending
on the new display garden area by the tennis courts.
Landscaping added $6k, Extra Golf Maintenance
added $4k, Collection Expense added another $3k and
miscellaneous added $4k.
Money transferred to the reserves is for the replacement of major assets already acquired but eventually
needing rehabilitation or total replacement. A good
example would be expenditures to resurface the basketball court and the tennis courts. On August 31st,
2011, we had $861,422 in the reserves. Year to date
we have added $93,388 and we have spent $15,749
leaving a balance on August 31st, 2012, of $939,061.
using more lights and electricity. In the fall at 2:00 am we set
our clocks back one hour.
November 11, Sunday: Veterans Day:
Veterans Day is the U.S. holiday honoring veterans of all U.S. armed forces. The
anniversary was originally celebrated as
Armistice Day, the date of the signing of the
armistice that ended World War I on November 11, 1918.
November 22, Thursday: Thanksgiving Day: Thanksgiving is a U.S. national
holiday to give thanks for the harvest season. It is a time for family and friends to
gather for a dinner or feast, typically featuring a roasted turkey.

What’s Happening in November?
November 1, Thursday: All Saints’
Day: A religious day of celebration to commemorate the sacrifices of Christians who
have been honored by being proclaimed
Saints by their Church.
November 2, Friday: All Souls’ Day:
All Souls’ Day is celebrated on November
2nd, following All Saints Day. The celebration, also called Defuncts’ Day or Day of the
Dead, is a time to commemorate the faithful
departed.
November 4, Sunday: Daylight Saving Time
Ends: The main purpose of Daylight Saving Time is to make better use of daylight.
We adjust our clocks forward during the
summer months to move an hour of daylight from the morning to the evening. This
is to save energy in the summer months by extending
the daylight in the evening when more people would be
by Maude M. Grant
Take a turkey, stuff it fat,
Some of this and some of that.
Get some turnips, peel them well.
Cook a big squash in its shell.
Now potatoes, big and white,
Mash till they are soft and light.
Cranberries, so tart and sweet,
With the turkey we must eat.
Pickles-yes-and then, oh my!
For a dessert a pumpkin pie,
Golden brown and spicy sweet.
What a fine Thanksgiving treat!

Neighbors Recommend
The Adlers recommend “David Blinn Plumbing” the best
plumber we’ve ever had – incredibly skilled and conscientious, always on time and who also always returns
phone calls. We’ve been using him for several years, and
he was originally recommended to us by an architect
friend who told us that David Blinn is the most knowledgeable and expert plumber he has ever known in all
his years as an architect. David Blinn can be reached at:
(619) 579-9090 (work phone).
4) Stir in milk and heat through. Do not
boil. Ladle into individual soup bowls. If
desired, garnish with a swirl of Greek
yogurt and/or a few very small bits of
candied ginger.
4) Pour in the can of tomato sauce
and bring to a boil. Lower heat and let
simmer for about ½ hour or until peppers
are soft.
If you have a favorite recipe you
would like to share please email it to
[email protected].
The Adlers write: We recommend “Michael Creely De
signs” as a superbly skilled master furniture maker and
cabinet builder. Michael designs and builds gorgeous
solid wood furniture and built-in cabinets, often with
beautiful inlays, and all stunningly designed and constructed. He is also one of the most honorable, decent,
reliable and good-natured people we have ever known.
You may view his gorgeous furniture and built-in cabinets on his website: http://www.MichaelCreelyDesigns.
