The Creative Spark
Lyn Heward Cirque du Soleil
Monday - 8:45 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. - Opening Session
Montreal’s Cirque du Soleil is one of the world’s most innovative
companies, and Lyn Heward is a major reason why: For years she helped
shape its performers, designers, and technicians into an artistic and
commercial juggernaut. In her magnificent keynote, Heward takes you
behind the scenes of Cirque du Soleil to explore the nature of creativity and
innovation. A gifted storyteller, she dispenses practical advice on a range of
issues: risk-taking; leadership; teamwork; product development; finding and
developing talent; and fostering a dynamic corporate culture. With authority,
Heward helps you find the creative spark and zeal for innovation that, in
today’s business climate, can mean the difference between success and
failure.

CONFERENCE 2013
To create something different, something better
…Inspire others to believe in what is possible, despite the odds.
Ability to Create Change
Michel Chikwanined
Monday - 10:30 a.m. - 11:45 a.m. - (Plenary Speaker)
Michel Chikwanine has overcome unimaginable pain and struggles. Born in
the Democratic Republic of Congo, forced to be a child soldier Michel grew
up amid the terror of the Great War of Africa that claimed the lives of 5.8
million people. Michel now inspires people to believe in their ability to make
a difference and leaves you with a new perspective on life, a sense of hope
through social responsibility, and a desire for change.

ReClaiming the Clock
Hugh Culver
Monday - 1:15 p.m. - 2:45 p.m. - (Plenary Speaker)
It’s easy to get busy – email, interruptions, meetings, and clutter can keep
us busy, distracted from what’s really important, and discouraged. Without
an intervention, “busy” becomes the excuse for ongoing missed deadlines,
procrastination, needless rushing, and mistakes. ReClaiming the Clock
is an exciting new approach to getting beyond survival and excelling at
getting the right stuff done. This proven model will show you how to
free-up time for planning, improving systems, reconnecting with staff,
and creative thinking. And for many graduates they also create exciting
improvements in their use of personal time for family, relaxation, exercise,
and fun!

Competing Against Giants: How
Smaller Firms Can Prosper
Kenneth Wong Queen’s University
Monday - 3:00 p.m. - 4:15 p.m. - (Plenary Speaker)
Ken Wong is not your typical academic. With work that has earned him
the cover of Canadian Business magazine and a place in the Canadian
Marketing Hall of Legends, he is known for his energetic, entertaining
and content-rich presentations. In an era where industry consolidation
and mergers are creating scale-advantaged giants in almost every line of
business, some smaller firms have found a way to not only survive, but
prosper. Learn how to capitalize on the disadvantages that large size can
bring, how to leverage the unique qualities of small scale operations, and
how to use organizational arrangements to reap many of the benefits of large
size without sacrificing the positive aspects of being a smaller enterprise.

Leadership Through
Tough Times
General Rick Hillier
Tuesday - 11:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. Closing (Plenary Speaker)
Leadership requirements on the front lines of business are not
so different than those on the front lines of combat, says General
(Retired) Rick Hillier. Each position requires a strong and sound
vision to lead a united and skilled team. Drawing from more than
30 years of experience with the Canadian Forces, including the
three he served as Canada’s Chief of the Defence Staff, General
Hillier takes audiences through the principles of leadership that
he learned on the battlefield, and how they can be applied to
civilian life.
