Established 1947
“ Laugh, Love, Live. Keep Square Dancing Alive.”
Are we going to
have a really hot summer
this year? With springtime
arriving in a few days and it
already feels like early summer, so who knows what
our Oklahoma summer will
be like this year. We will
just take what comes and
enjoy the times we are inside with the a/c.
The federation officers
who were able to attend the
Northwest District’s Spring
Festival enjoyed a wonderful
evening of fun, fellowship,
and FOOD. The entertainment was delightful as Don
Main’s granddaughters performed for us. The next
visitation for the state board
is the last Saturday of the
month on March 31st in Perryton, TX. with the Panhandle district hosting the
dance. The invitations have
been sent out to everyone
but even if you didn’t receive one, we know that
they would be very pleased
to welcome you all anyway.
We will be sending out a
reminder to the board a few
days before the dance. If
you need to make hotel
reservations, do it early as
the hotels are filling up.
April will have visitations to
the Northeast District in
Tulsa, on April 14th and the
Southwest District in
Weatherford, OK. on April
28th. Be sure to mark your
calendars now.
Well, the preconvention is history but
what fun we all had showing the NEC and the visitors from the future conventions and around the
country exactly what we
“Okies” are made of.
The registrations were
brisk, the rooms at the
hotel were wonderful,
and the excitement
throughout the 3 days
prior to the big dance on
Saturday night made for a
very enjoyable time by all.
Thanks to all the Oklahoma Dancers!!!
We are looking forward to attending the
state round-up this weekend but since this article
should be in by the 16th, we
won’t be able to report on
these festivities until the
next Sashay comes out. We
know that everyone who
attends the round-ups always have a great time and
we are looking forward to
seeing all of you that can
make it. The round-up is
being held in Stillwater this
go-around and we are looking forward to heading up
to that part of the state.
Spring time is a great time
to drive up to the northern
part of our state….all the
trees are starting to greenup and the flowers are beginning to bloom. Okay,
these may be just weeds
but they are pretty anyway.

Central District—Vicky Eslick and Vernon Willis
Spring is here and we are
having beautiful weather so
far. Vernon and I have been
busy going out and
Spreading the Joy of our
hobby. We have attended
three anniversary dances,
and visited six of our clubs’
regular dances. We attended the National PreConvention dance as well
as the HASSDA festival.
Central District
has lost three callers in the
last two months. Lawrence
Biggs and Jerry Linduff both
passed away early this year,
while Bobby Willis has
moved to Texas.
Central District
dancers have had seven
exhibitions in the last two
months. April has us going
back to school with an
Exhibition at one school
and helping another school
getting ready for an Exhibition in May. We also plan to
help celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Round Barn
in Arcadia in April.
The month of May
will see us at the Kolache
Festival in Prague as well as
the Western Heritage Mu-
seum, aka National Cowboy
Hall of Fame in Oklahoma
City. If you would like to
join us for any of these,
please check our website at
www.cdsda.com for more
details.
We have four
clubs celebrating anniversaries in the next couple of
months. Swinging Rebels
will turn 52 on the 13th of
April; Dancing Shadows is
turning 25 on the 16th with
Silver Spurs of OKC celebrating 63/63 on the 21St.
Then in May, Kalico Kapers
will celebrate 63 years.

Panhandle District—Garrell and Lesa Young
LOVELY LADIES PASSING THE TORCH OF
LEADERSHIP
After many years of dedicated service to square
dancing and especially to
the Panhandle District
Avis Strasner and
Loraine Conner will be
stepping down from their
presidential responsibilities to the Panhandle District. Their enthusiasm
and smiling faces have
been a light to many of us
that have come to know
and love them.
The new presidents for
the Panhandle District
are Lesa and Garrell
Young of Turpin, Ok. This
couple has already traveled the state to numerous dances and has be-
come acquainted with
dancers throughout the
state. The District is very
fortunate that Lesa and
Garrell have accepted
this position. They have
an enormous amount of
enthusiasm and love for
square dancing and the
many lifelong friends that
have evolved from this
wonderful activity.
We look forward to seeing you in a square. Perryton dances on the first
Saturday and third Thursday. Keys dances on the
fourth Saturday (call
ahead to confirm).
Judy Tindle, Sec/Treas
A Special
Thank you.
We would like to thank
everybody for all of their
kindness, support and help
since we have become
President of the Panhandle
District. We are looking
forward to our tenure. We
will have many more questions and we appreciate
your patience with us.
Thanks again and we look
forward to getting to know
each and every one of you
better.
Garrell and Lesa Young
coffee, water, and cherry
or apple cobbler. The
food was fantastic; the
fellowship was fantastic;
the fun was fantastic. 17
rooms were reserved for
Friday March 16th; 43 for
Saturday, March 17th. 20
people ate at El Vaquero
Mexican Restaurant on
Friday Night. If you
missed the Roundup, you
missed a fantastic, fun –
filled weekend.

Association of Green Country District—John and Phyllis
Mattison
On March 10th the funeral of
Mrs. Dorothy Sutton was held
in Tulsa Oklahoma. Mrs.
Dorothy was loved by several
people in Green Country, but
especially by her son, Caller
Frank Gray, and by her
brother, Caller Cecil Williams.
She will be greatly missed.
Frank & Cheri Gray and Cecil
& Dorothy Williams are part
of the Green Country callers
whom we so very much appreciate. Others are Bill & Deb
Burcham, Cecil & Barbara Burton, Steve & Glenna Estep, and
Richie Richardson. The district
is also fortunate to have two
“new” callers: Lake Keystone’s
Paula Dunham, and Family
Squares’ Micah Weese. Micah
is just starting while Paula is
returning to calling after many
years’ of absence.
The Pre-Convention was a
wonderful success. The high
point of the convention was
seeing Ernest Haynes dressed
as an Indian Chief while calling
the grand march. It was type
casting – Earnest is native
American. Cecil Burton
counted 30 squares in the
grand march. We are so looking forward to the “real convention” in June of 2013,
where there will be vendors,
vendors, and more vendors.
We had a great time at the
Northwest Festival at Woodward on March 10th. We saw
several old friends and met
many new ones. Northwest
has a new president couple –
Kay and Vonda Boughan. We
will be attending the Panhandle
festival in Perryton Texas on
March 31. Panhandle district
also has a new president, Garrell & Lesa Young.
Friends make you rich – especially square dance friends.
John enjoys being rich with
friends. He says that when he
was a child, that he was so
poor that he could not pay
attention.

Round up is over
with and in the past and
now we have the rest of
the year to work, play,
dance, and meet new
people along our travels
that could also be new
dancers to bless us in our
square group . I do not
think that any of us mind
being called square when
it comes to square dancing as that is the starting
of a wonderful beginning
of what we enjoy.
Hopefully I did get to
meet most of the Single
Coordinators from each
District at the Round up
in Stillwater. If not then
do not be surprised to get
a call from me sometime
soon. Again, share information about what is going on in your district with
the singles and dances.
We would like to share
with others in the Sashay
and get that information
out. So please send information to us anytime.
By this press time of
the Sashay, the HASSDA
Festival will be held on
March 30- 31 in Midwest
City .. Know that everyone will enjoy dancing to
Mike Bramlett, Jeff Holley, Bobby Willis, Danny
Payne , Jim & Geor-
gianne Couey. This Festival is sponsored by Metro
Singles of Oklahoma City.
Thank you for sending
flyers to me to pass along
to others too.
Mark August 19 on the
calendar for the OSDF
Shrine benefit.
I do have tickets for
that benefit to start selling
and we are looking for
any donated items that
can be in the silent auction. Any help would be
greatly appreciated.
Hopefully we will see
you in a square during
this year.

Our clubs roll out the
“Red Carpet” for our
visitors.
Bring your friends
and make it a road
trip.
Hello to all Oklahoma
Square Dancers. Here in
SCD things continue to be
pretty much unchanged.
Our six clubs are still dancing and going fairly strong.
We have one set of Mainstream lessons in progress
with approximately 12 students. The students are
very eager to learn and are
really doing well. Scott Bennett is putting them through
their paces.
Scott has started a
“High Energy” club that
dances on the second Saturday of the month. This is
a caller run club and the
district has no say what so
ever in the way things are
done. If you would like to
come join Scott, I know he
would love to have you.
The cost is (I think) $5.00
person and it is held at the
Center for Creative Living
in Lawton, Ok.
The other six clubs
continue to dance as usual.
If you have any questions as
to where and when, please
don’t hesitate to give Bill
and Molly a call---580-3531762. If you come to SCD,
you will have a good time.
Our clubs roll out the “Red
Carpet” for our visitors.
You may go away shaking
your head but you will
know you have been to a
dance. Our callers do a
wonderful job and everyone
has a great time. The food
is also wonderful. If you go
away hungry, it is your own
fault.
SCD’s next special
dance will be in May, it will
be our Spring Festival. The
theme will be “Senior
Prom”. The location will be
Grady County Fair Grounds
in Chickasha, Ok. Mike and
Loretto Ellis are the chairmen and their committee is
busy planning for a great
day. The date will be May
5, 2012, $6.00 per person
in advance and $8.00 at the
door. More information to
follow as well as the tickets.
At this time, I can’t
think of any more to write
about. Oh, yes. Wedding
bells will ring again in SCD
fairly soon. Michelle Walls
asked Christopher Baker to
marry her. She popped the
question on February 29th
and he said “YES”. WE, the
dancers, in SCD are so excited for them. The date
has not been set yet but
they are talking about it.
Gotta go for now.
If you get the chance to
come visit, please do. We
would love to have you in
our squares. Bring your
friends and make it a road
trip.

February 29th A Special
Sadie Hawkins Dance was
held in Shattuck, Oklahoma.
Rod & Lois Ford & Don Main
were the callers for this
event, & even though it was
the middle of the week on a
school night we still had 6
squares show up. If you
missed this one – you
missed a lot of fun.
March 3, we saw many of
you at the Pre-Convention in
Oklahoma City. I do not
know what was expected to
be there but 29 squares on
the first tip looked pretty
promising. A good group of
callers entertained us.
March 9, Harper County
Squares, our newest club in
the Northwest district,
hosted a “get acquainted”
dance in Kiowa, KS Callers
Rod & Lois Ford & Fred
Trujillo were at the mike.
Again there were about 6
squares in attendance with
dancers from Kansas, Oklahoma & Texas present. A
good chance to get acquainted.
March 10th was the Northwest District Spring Festival
in Woodward, Bobby Willis
called this one. It was a visit
9 dance & State Officers
visitation. With all of the
State Officers that came out
& the other dancers combined – we started the night
out with 9 squares. It is
great to see so many out
dancing recently. Thanks to
all who made this a great Festival.
Some Northwest members are getting ready to sell
ads & tickets for the coming
Festival in November. This
will be sent before the State
Roundup in Stillwater– but
hopefully we saw many of
you there & by the time you
read this we should know all
about our ticket selling program for this year.
Until we see you in a
square – keep dancing !!

North Central District—Memorial to Jayne—
February 2, 1949 to February 10, 2012
Many good things can and
have been said about Jayne
Bradley, but I wanted to say
a little as to just how she
impacted mine and Myrna’s
square dance life.
We got to know Nate
and Jayne when we started
attending state functions in
2002, (they were SASHAY
editor then), but we really
got to know her when she
was the first to volunteer to
serve on our 2007 appointed board as the SASHAY editor with Nate.
She made her state dress
and then made Mackenna’s,
too, to make it a staff of
three. What an honor for
us for her to make one for
MacKenna.
Usually quiet in the background, she made her ideas
known through Nate. At
times, we asked for advise
and on others, her comments were welcomed
when we needed them.
She will truly be missed
by many, but certainly by
the square dance world, her
club, her district and the
OSDF.
