Heroes Hiring Heroes Job Fair. The positive
impact for the community and our Veterans
is tremendous. As a community resource,
Adelante is always looking for ways to be supportive of the community. This event is just
one of the truly notable ways in which this is
accomplished by Adelante.
While each year has been more fruitful
than the last, the 2012 Heroes Hiring Heroes
event would not have been such a triumph
without the many dedicated volunteers from
both Adelante and ESGR who spent numerous

Thanks to all those who sponsored, volunteered, coordinated, and partnered on this
year’s event! We look forward to 2013 and an
even more successful event!

An overlooked and under-used gift-planning arrangement.
1. You sell your residence or other property to a valid non-profit
organization such as Adelante for a price below the appraised
market value, resulting in a transaction that is part charitable
contribution and part sale.
2. The non-profit organization may retain and use the property,
or could elect to sell it and use the proceeds of the sale for the
gift purposes you may have specified.
August 30th marked the fourth annual Heroes
Hiring Heroes Veterans Job Fair. The event is
known as one of the largest and best job fairs
for military personnel nationwide! This year
over 970 job seekers walked into a ballroom
packed wall-to-wall with over 4,000 jobs available through 105 employers.
One of the participating employers noted,
“This job fair was outstanding! It was very well
planned and very efficient! This is the highest
volume of qualified
potential applicants we have ever
had show up to
a job fair that we
have attended!”

Welcome to our newest
helping hands.
Michael Padilla, an Associate employed at Document Destruction Services, with Patrick Robson, who
serves on Adelante’s Board of Directors.
Michael was a good sport during the long professional photo session that PNM scheduled with us at
the new Secure Document Center.
Michael subsequently got famous when their photo
appeared on the cover of PNM’s July billing insert
mailed to the company’s customers, which spotlighted various PNM employees’ volunteerism within
the community.

skill-sets to the agency.
•
Through PNM Volunteer Grants, their employees or re rees can request
a contribu on of as much as $500 a year on behalf of a New Mexico
nonprofit organiza on with which he or she volunteers.
When Robin Hecker began volunteering at El Centro, Adelante’s
Administra ve Offices, it was a pleasure to discover that she
was incredibly personable, smart, and dedicated. While helping
out she learned of the Friends In Time program that supports
New Mexicans with neuromuscular disease, which soon piqued
her volunteer interests. Before long, Robin was suppor ng the
Friends In Time program.
“Robin works quickly, is crea ve and very much a people
person,” Tracy Agiovlasi s, Director of Adelante’s Friends In Time
program, was quick to offer. “Many clients commented on her
great phone skills, making them feel comfortable in talking when
she called around for our recent client-sa sfac on survey. Robin
gets along very well with all three of us staffing FIT and really
made an effort to become closely familiar with FIT services. In
fact, Robin was so enthralled with our program, she ended up
signing on as a Volunteer Friend with one of our FIT clients she
met at an event, which is truly a win-win for our mission.”
Robin noted that her experience at Adelante helped her to
see “I had more job skills than I realized!” We also discovered her
baking talents. Robin o en spoils the staff with trays of freshbaked cookies. Who can turn down white chocolate macadamia
nut cookies? Robin has been a well-liked and valuable member
of our family at Adelante!
