Groovin’ The Moo
In May 2010, the Children & Young People Commissioner
(CYPC) set up a stall at the Groovin’ the Moo festival in
Canberra.
The stall was co-hosted by members of the ACT Youth
Advisory Council (YAC). The YAC is made up of 15
young people from a diverse range of backgrounds, and
provides advice to the ACT Government on issues which
affect young people.
As well as just talking with children and young people
about the role of the CYPC, the CYPC handed out over
1000 copies of the the new CYPC Info Card, as well as
500 stickers, 150 balloons, and 100 water bottles - all
containing promotional information about the CYPC.
The CYPC received just under 600 responses to the
survey, with the results showing that:
•
71% of children and young people prefer to listen to
live bands, 8% prefer to listen to DJs, and 21% don’t
have a preference;
•
60% of children and young people obtain music
online, 58% from CDs, and 41% from friends; and
•
63% of children and young people would like to see
more festivals in Canberra, 52% would like to see
more all ages gigs, and 22% would like to see more
bands.
For further information, please phone the CYPC on
6205 2222, or email at [email protected].
The CYPC also asked children and young people to fill in
a short survey about the type of music they listen to,
where they obtain their music, and the sort of music they
would like to see more of in Canberra.
