South Florida’s Rebound Gains Momentum
As the economy rebounds in south Florida, we are seeing an increase in construction starts
across many of the market sectors we serve. Coastal has recently wrapped up five projects,
has twelve more currently under construction and is starting another six in the near future. We
are pleased to feature a few of these in this issue of “Currents”.
Featured on the cover is Oceana, a luxury condominium being built by Coastal Condominiums for Consultatio Key Biscayne of Argentina.
Coastal Construction Company just recently completed The Palace at Coral
Gables for The Palace Group, an exquisite choice for seniors desiring both independent and assisted living options with all the amenities of a luxury hotel.
You will also read about a project we recently completed in Palm Beach
County. Coastal Construction Company received the final CO for Alta Congress,
a rental community near downtown Delray Beach, for Wood Partners, one of our
most valued repeat clients.
In Key West, Coastal Construction Company has recently completed the
Horace O’Bryant School for the Monroe County School District. The project is a
replacement school which involved demolition, renovations and new construction.
And to the north in Marathon, Coastal Construction Company just broke ground
on Faro Blanco Resort and Yacht Club, a Hyatt Place Hotel being built for the
Spottswood family, one of our long-time repeat clients.
On Sunny Isles Beach, Coastal Construction Company has finished renovating the interiors of Beach Place, a coastal urban apartment community for Jamestown US
Properties. And on 79th Street overlooking Biscayne Bay, we are also building ShoreCrest Club,
a rental community for Upper East Side Miami LLC.
Finally, we are proud to highlight two more of the most recent beneficiaries of Coastal Cares,
our philanthropic arm.
Thank you for reading this issue of “Currents” and, as always, we welcome and appreciate
your comments and suggestions.

Beach Place:
A Coastal Urban Retreat
Coastal Cares, the philanthropic arm of Coastal, continues
to support organizations within the South Florida community.
Two of these charities are highlighted in this issue.
Beach Place, Sunny Isles Beach
oastal Construction recently completed
renovating the interiors of 308 one- and
two-bedroom rental residences at Beach
Place for Jamestown US Properties Corp.
Located on North Bay Road between A1A
and Florida’s Intracoastal Waterway, Beach
Place is a coastal apartment community in the
heart of Sunny Isles Beach that offers an
upscale living environment with a neighborhood
feel. Working while the buildings were occupied,
Coastal renovated twenty-one units per month,
assuring an on-time completion for the fully
leased community.
Designed by NC Studio of Miami, there are
four unit types ranging in size from 872 to 1,182
square feet.

“Coastal provided a consistent presence
throughout a highly complicated
redevelopment of 308 apartment units.
The quality of construction was
exceptional, and the often overlooked
back end services were top notch,
which allowed us to track costs
accurately. Throughout all of this,
Coastal was nimble enough to take on
a host of side projects that we
requested of them, all completed
with ease.”

SHERIDAN HOUSE FAMILY
MINISTRIES
Coastal is a proud supporter of
Sheridan House, a faith-based
organization in Broward County,
which ministers to families,
young boys, girls and single
moms in crisis. Coastal has
taken a very active role, with
our president Dan Whiteman,
serving on its Board, and
through not only monetary support for its fundraisers throughout the year, but also with inkind services during a recent
construction campaign.
Coastal’s support does not end
there – our team members also
generously contribute to its toy,
food and clothing drives each
year, enabling single moms to
provide for their children for
school, the Thanksgiving and
Christmas holidays. To learn
more, go to www.sheridanhouse.org.
AMERICAN HEART
ASSOCIATION
With people living longer, there
are few, if any, families who
have not been affected by heart
disease or the ravaging effects
of stroke. A financial supporter
of both the American Heart
Association and the American
Heart & Stroke Association for
the past seven years, Coastal
vice president Tim Sterling, rallied our troops to support the
Heart Walk, the premier event
of the American Heart
Association at FIU’s main campus in Miami. We not only participated with a team and
raised funds, we also provided
a healthy snack to all those
who walked to raise awareness
and celebrate progress in the
fight against this country’s no. 1
and no. 4 killers. For more

Forcast: Blue Skies And A Nice Tail Wind
Coastal Construction Group is pleased to present the first issue of “Currents”, our quarterly
newsletter, for 2013.
In this issue, we feature both projects recently completed and currently under construction.
On the cover, you will see the Miami Beach Edition, a hotel and condominium partnership between
Marriott and Ian Schrager.
Just down the street, Coastal recently completed the SLS Hotel on Miami
Beach, which involved the addition of a two-story Annex Building and an historic
renovation to one of the art deco gems for which Miami’s South Beach has become
famous. You will also read about the Monte Carlo, a luxury residential apartment
building under construction on Miami Beach and scheduled for completion in 2014.
In Pinecrest, Coastal Homes recently completed the “Ibis House,” home to the
University of Miami’s president, and future venue for many UM events.
We also just completed our first project for Miami-Dade College, a totally sustainable Environmental Center on the Kendall Campus, which will serve as both an
educational tool and Eco Center for more than 10,000 visitors annually.
This past November, Coastal was recognized by ENR Southeast in its Best
Projects competition for two of our projects, the General Funding Office Building
and St. Regis Resort & Residences. And, in keeping with our philosophy to support
the community which supports us, in this issue we feature several of the most
recent beneficiaries of Coastal Cares, the philanthropic arm of Coastal.
Lastly, but certainly not least, you will read about Patrick Erin Murphy, my youngest son, who
was just elected to the United States Congress in Florida’s District 18. We are very proud of the
path Patrick has chosen to take, and are looking forward to the contributions he will make to both
Florida and our great nation. We truly appreciate the many friends who not only supported Patrick’s
campaign financially, but also contributed their time to make his dream a reality.
As always, we thank you for reading this issue of “Currents” and welcome and appreciate your
comments and suggestions.

Congressman Patrick “Erin” Murphy
Youngest Member Of U.S. House Of Representatives
n March of 2010, Patrick “Erin” Murphy,
vice president of Coastal Environmental
Services, made the decision to run for the
US Congress in District 22. When incumbent Republican, Colonel Allen West chose
to change to District 18, a more favorable
District for his party, Patrick followed.
In what turned out to be the most
expensive and nastiest Congressional race
in the nation, Patrick prevailed, in spite of
the fact that West outspent him by more
I
than 4 to 1. Patrick’s success would not
have been possible without the tireless
efforts of the many campaign volunteers
and those who supported him financially.
Running on a platform of finding solutions to the country’s problems by reaching
across party lines to discover common
ground, Patrick’s win is a testament to the
voters’ desire to move past the stalemate
that has polarized our country for the past
four years.
Patrick’s victory speech said it all:
“I am humbled by the outpouring of support
from the voters of the Treasure Coast and
Palm Beaches. I pledge to be a representative who will work across the aisle, listen to
all points of view, and work to end the divisiveness in Congress. Our nation faces many
challenges, and by working together, we will
continue to move our country forward”.
As one of the few Certified Public
Accountants in Congress, Patrick was quickly
selected to become a member of the prestigious and powerful “House Committee on
Financial Services,” which oversees the
housing, banking, insurance and financial
industries.

youth shelter for kids ages 13
through 17. Serving more than
700 children each year, Miami

Since our involvement
began, Coastal and its subcontractors and suppliers have
donated nearly $200,000 of
in-kind services, including

Their success rate is
tremendous! Of the second
