15. The auctioneers for the event
were Woody Ireland and Rex
Cox. Ermy Perry won Grand
Champion Ham; Brian Carr

Ham. Union Bank bought his
reserved ham for $1,715. Cari

bowl and an awards dinner. The journalism department received six first
place awards for photography, overall design,
original advertisements,
cover, theme and graphics. They also received
a third place award for
copywriting. Their final
award was given for receiving the most awards in
their division. The SMHS
yearbook has been recognized for its individuality
and the hard work that is
put in each year. The girls
thoroughly enjoyed the
opportunity and would
like to attend another
workshop in the near future. The workshops are
helpful to students and
teachers by help the staff
come up with ideas for
advertising and the components of the yearbook.

Prom
Prom only comes around once a year. This is a time when
students can put all their problems aside and dance the night away.
It is tradition that the juniors arrange prom for the seniors. The juniors decided to hold prom at The Parkersburg Shrine Center. To
make prom a little starrier, the night’s theme is “A starry night”.
For those of you who aren’t aware, prom is for the juniors and seniors. Our administration is just generous enough to
allow those whose significant others are an underclassman go
to prom. Because of our school generosity, students are starting to take advantage of this privilege. Underclassman are finding anyone and everyone they can to take them to prom. Here
is a tip for you, we are given this privilege for a reason and if
this privilege continues to be taken advantage of, you will ruin
it for the people who truly appreciate the school’s kindness.
This year several students are complaining about the
prices of tickets. After traveling to a recent field trip in Huntington where kids all over the state gathered for a yearbook competition, I had the chance to get to know several students from
across the state. That day I finally realized just how fortunate
students are here at SMHS. Students from Nicholas County informed me that their prom tickets were $80 apiece. HELLO,
$20 dollars, that’s a steel!!! Be fortunate for the great things
our school does for us instead of focusing on the negatives.
I have attended prom all four years of high school, but
I attended prom by following the guidelines and rules without
complaining. Finding the perfect dress, the perfect date, it’s all
so important. But what is really important is the time you have
with your friends. No matter where prom was held, no matter how great the DJ was, no matter where I ate before prom, I
ALWAYS enjoyed my time because I made sure to not let a
single thing ruin my night. You are in control of your happiness and remember that time flies by, you have to enjoy every
single minute of it without reflecting on all the negative aspects.

SMHS yearbook participated in a competition

The tennis team has played on the new SMHS courts
this spring season.
Some of the greatest discovers were made because of a
question. However, we seem
to live in an age where we
must know the answer and if
we don’t well give me a minute and I will find it out. We
are in a time where with a with
taps on a keyboard and a link
from Google we can find out
whatever out heart’s desire.
Why do we do this? People
are always pondering what the
true meaning of something is.
Is it because we ca not go a
single second without knowing the details or what is going on? Maybe. Maybe we as
people are nosey and want to
be up-to-date with the world or
maybe we are simply curious.
A tragedian of classical Athens known as Euripides once
said “Question everything.
Learn something. Answer
nothing.” This is something
which can be seen in many
people today, questioning everything, learning from it but
not answering why they did so.

Gentlemen to my very first column. It should be known that
there is no specific topic within
this column, so everyone buckles your seatbelts and enjoy my
ravishing, random ramblings.
Do you ever just stop and
think about… how much we
as people question the world
around us. Ever since you
were a mere child you’ve more
than likely asked countless
amounts of questions. Why is
the sky blue? Why is the Earth
round? How do you know if
someone is lying to you? What
is the capital of Czechoslovakia? Why is this column about
questions? Oh, to answer one
of those questions, Prague is
the capital of Czechoslovakia.
We’ve all more than likely
heard the expression “curiosity
killed the cat” but that doesn’t
exactly mean we’ve learned
from it. Now do not get me
wrong it’s good to question
somethings in life for it allows
you to discover and learn more
than you may already know.

Finally! We are in the home
stretch of this year. Only nine
weeks left. It seems so close,
but so far away. This summer
is going to be packed with various events that I cannot wait
for. Band camp is definitely the
event I am most looking forward to. There are always silly
pranks and a special bond that
our room shares. Even though
getting up early sucks, it is totally worth it for our end of the
week performance. This year,
being a senior at band camp, I
can’t wait to get my freshmen
buddies, I want them to learn to
love band just as much as I have.
Learning music and getting
to be with some of the best characters in our school is the best
part. The smell of icy hot and
biofreeze might be so strong
it is sickening, but I wouldn’t
change it for the world. I have
so many great memories at
band camp and during our performance season. I wish the
best of luck to my fellow band
geeks and hope to see new
faces at summer band (cough
Spring is here! I am so
excited. I absolutely love this
time of year! There are so many
things that you can do. You can
do projects or simply go outside
and enjoy the warm weather!
Just about everyone’s favorite
spring and summertime restaurant, The Jug finally opened
back up on March 7! My favorite thing to do is go outside,
relax and enjoy the weather.
Prom is in less than a
month! The theme of this
year’s prom is Starry Night.
The theme was based off of
Vincent Van Gogh’s painting “A Starry Night.” There
are many events leading up to
prom such as prom promise
and Mrs. Nutter’s dress sale.
Prom is going to be held at the
Nemesis Shrine Club on Saturday, April 16. I don’t have
anything plan as what I will be
doing before and after prom.
The girls’ basketball team
made it to the second game
in the state tournament. They

In all honesty the drumline has become a part of my
family. Once in the drumline,
always in the drumline. Even if
we don’t win an award at every
competition, I am still proud to
call them mine. I will forever
be grateful for the opportunities and the people I have encountered because of drumline.
This summer is my last before I have officially graduated.
It seems so far away, but we are
all turning into adults and that
is scary. It seems like we just
started kindergarten together
and now we are each branching off into the world to start
our own lives. I have grown
up with most of my current
classmates and I do not regret
meeting any of them. It was
just like yesterday we were going on fieldtrips to the pumpkin patch and now we are being thrown out into the world.
I would like to wish the
seniors who are leaving this
year the best of luck in their
endeavors in the real world! Be
were beat by St. Joe only by
four points! I always enjoy
going to the basketball tournament. The cheerleaders always get to travel and stay in
Charleston with the basketball
team. We went and spent some
time at the mall. The basketball team and the cheerleaders
stayed for another night and
went to watch the championship game between Gilmer
county and St. Joe. We sat in
the Gilmer county student section. Gilmer won by only one
point! It was a great game!
Spring break was great!
I spent the first few days getting things ready and packed
to leave to travel to Oklahoma
City. My family and I flew to
Oklahoma to see my brother
for a few days. My brother,
Dylan graduated from Basic
Training in Lawton, OK. There
were many things that we got
to do while we were there such
go through the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge and spend
safe and make good decisions!
Well for the underclassmen all I can really say is that
you need to try your best! I’m
not kidding. This is serious, so
many people this it is a joke,
but it truly controls the rest of
your life. Don’t mess around!
get your work done, and when
you don’t get it done, don’t
make up some lame excuse!
Now for my fellow classmates
and friends... You all have impacted my life drastically and I
can’t wait for the new adventures we will encounter in our
senior year. Make sure to make
the best of this year and make
as many memories as possible.
Just remember school
isn’t over so try your best!
You will never get a redo for
these years and you will only
regret it if you make poor decisions and don’t give it your
all. Don’t Blame your teachers for your mistakes. They
try very hard to teach us and
we should be appreciative!

base. The first day that we were
there was “family day” which
is where we got to watch a
presentation on what had been
going on throughout the basic
training and we got to take
my brother off of the base and
spend a few hours with him.
He left the day after his graduation and went to Missouri. He
will be in Missouri for about 10
weeks. He will be home in June.
I cannot believe that March
is already over! This is crazy!
This year is going by so fast.
I cannot wait until June as
I will be returning to Costa
Rica to work with my mission team for the second year.
I enjoy working with my mission group and also working
with the locals in Costa Rica.
We will be there for a week in
June. Flying has to be one of
my favorite things to do too!

out of this world as most Marvel series but they’re noticeably
more accurate. It’s hands down
my favorite show on Netflix,
and one of the few shows that
waiting a year for the next season is worth it. I would defintely
give this show a five out of five
and I encourage everyone who
loves action-packed drama to
tune into this Netflix success.

client, Daredevil takes on the
Superman’s a good guy…
right? Well, imagine yourself
running as fast as you can. You
get in the car and you drive.
You’ve heard the reports of a
terrorist attack so you do what
any CEO would do. You make
sure your family is safe. You call
your best friend in Wayne Enterprises and order him to evacuate
the building. People are in the
streets. Two men are engaged
in a chaotic battle tear apart the
city and burn through buildings.
Each blow struck by the combatants cause loss of life. Business
men and women who suddenly
forget about their complicated
agendas stand side by side with
first responders and firefighters.
Nobody is moving just watching
as the destruction of their homes
and lives become inevitable.
Then you see what appears to
be a man guiding a large vessel
into the attaching alien war machine, but not before crashing
into multiple densely populated
buildings. The blast sends fiery
debris across the city. Everyone is running away but you’re
running towards it. You watch
the company your family built
cave in on itself knowing the
only friends and family you
have left are still inside. What
would you do? You find that
son of a biscuit, and show the
world that not even the Son
of Krypton can evade justice.
The movie “Dawn of Justice” picks up where “Man of
Steel” left off. Earth has been
awaken to the new problem of
planetary vulnerability for the
first time, and the people are in
shock. Governments struggle
to come to decisions as to how
to proceed knowing their fate
no longer rests in their hands.
Some see this Alien as a new
hope, others believe him to be
the end of democratic freedom.
After all, “Absolute power corrupts absolutely,” says a United States Senator in the film.
Rotten Tomatoes along with
many other critical sources have
given Dawn of Justice some
nasty reviews, and I would have
to say I agree. Fans of the Dark
Knight would probably notice
that Batman’s infamous “no
kill” rule is non-existent, and the
overall plot of the story was not
very clear, but it was undeniably
fun to watch. The fight scenes
are more than satisfying as they
surpass previous DC films in
speed and intensity. Most people took to the streets and cried
bitterly when Christian Bale
refused to carry on the role of
Batman. Award winning actor,
Ben Affleck, took up the mantle
of the caped crusader and did
arguably better than Bale. The
writers of Batman v. Superman
achieved something no other
Batman film could. In the comics the Batman’s greatest weapon is fear, and there were many
scenes in the movie that felt like
you were watching a thriller.
In conclusion, if you plan
on watching the movie “Superman: Dawn of Justice”, prepare
for action, brace for disappointment.

In between episodes while
binge watching you’ve probably noticed the “Netflix Original” logo on the bottom of some
nearby suggestions. It’s usually
a sure sign of a good time. On
April 10, 2015 Netflix released
the original, “Daredevil Season
one” and people lost their minds.

roles in big name shows/movies. So, this actor chooses all the
right shows! He better lives up
to expectation. In the comics, he
is the one who puts Rick’s group
in a circle, chooses one group
member (that being Glenn), and
ends up beating him to death
with a barbed wire covered
baseball bat (that Negan has
named Lucille). This moment
has possibly been foreshadowed
in the show, as one of the Hilltop
members claim that Negan had
brutally murdered one of their
own right in front of them. The
group is now ready to challenge
The Saviors and they honestly
do not know what they are getting into. Let’s just note that the
next few episodes are going to
be crazy and the producers are
holding nothing back. Prepare
your Kleenex and ready your
popcorn because it’s going to be
emotional.

February 14, has passed once
again and instead of spending
time with loved ones, we all
spent it inside our homes watching the return of “The Walking
Dead” on AMC. This episode
started off with a big bang, the
producers have now showed us
that they are not holding back.
They left us with a huge cliffhanger over the holiday break,
with Rick, Jessie, Sam, Carl,
Ron and Gabriel all dressed up
in walker guts ready to walk into
the hoard of walkers. The way
that the scene went down is crazy. The way it was “resolved”
is even crazier. Since the return
(with the seven episodes that
have been released) they have
been shown to be following directly out of the comic books.
Although, with Andrea no longer in the show (being gone for
many seasons now) there have
been a couple changes from the
show such as relationships Rick
is in and let me say his new relationship is definitely something!
The show now has introduced a new character named,
Jesus. Nothing is known about
him currently in the show, but if
you read the comic books you’ll
find out more about him. In the
comics, he is a part of the Hilltop group, which by the way is
connected to Negan’s group of
Saviors. Although, Jesus (his
real name in the comics being
Paul Monroe) is not a savior.
His name is the show is Paul Rovia, but people call him Jesus.
Jumping back a bit, I
mentioned Negan, who has officially been casted. Jeffery
Dean Morgan was casted as the
upcoming role of Negan. Jeffery
Dean Morgan is well known
for his parts in “Supernatural,”
as John Winchester, “Grey’s
Anatomy,” as Denny Duquette
and “Weeds,” as Judah Botwin,

What Are You Afraid of?
We all have that one thing that just the
mention of it will send shivers down your
spine. It could be a common fear like heights,
closed spaces, germs or insects. It could be an
uncommon fear like peanut butter, otters or
bathing. No matter what your fear is you’re
not alone and there is no shame in having
that fear. The number one biggest fear of
America is terriost attacks. The rest of the
fears in order are spiders, death/ dying, being
a failure or seen as a failure, war, heights,
crime or gangs, being alone, the future/ real
world and nuclear war. A phobia is a type
of anxiety disorder. There are many ways to
tell if you have a phobia, such as; sweating,
nausea, dry mouth, shaking, irregular
heartbeat, shortness of breath or rapid
breathing around or the mention of a certain
object. Fear not, if you do figure out you have
a phobia there are many easy ways to cure
or help deal with it. The smaller cases are
usually sent to a psychiatrist who help deal
with anxiety. Anxiety can be very easy to
deal with and treated with medication. If you
have a phobia do not be afraid to tell someone.

This is a fear of dogs. This is mostly caused by a traumatic experience with a dog, like a dog attack. There have been instances where a person was

without getting anxious. People with this are known to develop an anxiety disorder and in bad cases a social disorder.
Coulrophobia:
This next fear is found mostly in youth, the fear of clowns. This phobia is mostly commonly developed as a young child. Most people with this
phobia blames the media for portraying clowns as frightening. Such as the movie, “It” by Stephen King. This tends to be a mild phobia the worse
causing panic attacks. The worst cases found in this fear have been to known to not come out of their houses on occasions known to dress up in
costumes like Halloween or a costume party.
Felinophobia:
The fear of cats or felines. Most people with this phobia are not afraid of a cat scratching them or hurting them. They are afraid of any type of contact
with a cat even if all they are doing is jumping in their laps or purring. This can be a very serious phobia leading to social problems and them ignoring
anyone who owns a cat. Cognitive-behavioral therapy is known to help people with this fear the best.
Pediophobia:
This is a fear of dolls. A long time ago, dolls were used for vessels for the dead. Many people have passed down this fear through generations. There
are many famous cases for this fear like, Zak Bagans from, “Ghost Adventures”. This phobia can also be caused by the media’s portrayal of dolls like,
the Chucky series.

A conspiracy theory is a belief that

Some of the most popular
theories are Obama’s birthplace, Project
MKUltra (CIA mind control program),
lizard people, Elvis Presley faking
his death, Area 51, all the many 9/11
theories and the faked moon landing.
People tend to believe in these theories
due to lack of proof and uncertainty
of these people or events. Conspiracy
theories aren’t always about people or
events though. Often they can be about
TV shows, video games or even books.
“The Rugrats” theory is one of the most
popular TV show conspiracies. Other
popular theories being from “Legend of

Boys Basketball
Easy Win
ST. MARYS-The Blue Devils hosted the Cameron
Dragons on Feb. 17 for their basketball contest. The
game was at a deadlock of 21-21 at the half with the
Dragons dominating the second quarter. The Devils used
a 19-11 third quarter advantage to gain some ground over
the Dragons. The Blue Devils were never threatened in
the fourth quarter as they outscored Cameron, 23-7. St.
Marys defeated Cameron, 63-39.
Scoring for the game shows: Johnson, 15; Kincaid,
12; Billeter, 12; Bayless, 7; Miller, 6; Wells, 6; Fox, 3;
VanZile, 2.
Eagles soar over Devils
ST. MARYS- On February 24, the Devils hosted the
Magnolia Blue Eagles to finish off their regular season.
Junior Sam Kincaid was the leading scorer against the
Blue Eagles scoring 21 to help the Devils stay in the
game. Throughout the game the Devils had a hard time
guarding Senior point guard for the Eagles, Preston
Boswell allowing him to score 40 on the Devils defense.
The Devils gave a good effort, but could not keep up
with the Eagles offense as they lost the game with a
score of 49-61. Stats for the game included: Johnson, 5;
Wells, 6; Miller, 2; Billeter, 6; Kincaid, 4-5, 21; Bayless,
3-4, 5 and Davis, 4.
Victorious
ST. MARYS- On Feb. 17, the Blue Devils hosted the
10th ranked Trinity Warriors. The win over the Warriors
was one of the best wins of the season. Guards Anthony
Johnson and Sam Kincaid could not miss with Johnson’s
26 and Kincaid’s 20. Right from the tip the Devils got
the jump on the Warriors outscoring them in the first
quarter giving them some leeway throughout the course
of the game. The Devils proved to be too much for the
Warriors defense defeating them with a score of 61-46.
Stats for the game included: Johnson, 6-8, 26; Miller,
2-4, 4; Billeter, 6; Kincaid, 5-7, 20; Bayless, 1-2, 3 and
Davis, 2-2, 4.

NEW MARTINSVILLE- On March 9, the Devils
basketball team traveled to Magnolia to take on the Blue
Eagles for the regional basketball game. The Devils did
everything they could to slow down the Eagles but could
not keep up. Senior Anthony Johnson and Junior Will
Billeter did everything they could to keep their team
in the game with Johnson’s 14, and Billeters 15. The
Devils had a tough outing against the Eagles losing 5366. Stats for the game included: Johnson, 3-4, 14; Wells,
2; Miller, 1-2, 15; Kincaid, 4-4, 9 and Bayless 3-3, 9.
NEW MARTINSVILLE- On March 3, the boys
basketball team faced off against the Trinity Warriors
for the sectional tournament finals. The first half was
an extremely close scoring game between the two
teams coming to the Warriors leading the Devils 3237. Coming out the half the devils were hot on offense
hitting their shots and playing lockdown defense leading
the Warriors 46-43 going into the final quarter. The
game was close all the way down to the final buzzer but
the Devils fell in defeat to the Warriors just one basket
shy with a score of 65-66. Stats for the game included:
Johnson, 2-2, 10; Miller, 6; Billeter, 0-3, 10; Kincaid,
2-4, 24; Bayless, 2-2, 12, and Davis 2.
WVHIT Loss
ST. MARYS-The Blue Devils played in round one of the
class A region one section two championship placement
game on Mar. 1 against a well matched Valley Wetzel
squad. Earlier in the season, St. Marys took a loss
from the Lumberjacks in the West Virginia Hometown
Invitational Tournament with a score of 84-81. The
Devils looked on getting revenge on Valley Wetzel and
both teams knew it was win or go home. Late in the
third quarter, St. Marys’ season was in jeopardy when
the Lumberjacks were leading by five points. The Devils
came back in the fourth and surged the rest of the way.
The Devils won the game, sending the Lumberjacks
home with a final score of 70-61.

Girls Basketball
Senior Night Win
ST. MARYS- Senior night was conducted Jan. 30 at
the WVHIT home girls’ basketball game with Tygarts
Valley. Coach Howard Meeks started his four departing
seniors to honor them. Those seniors included Ashley
Hall, Laura Taylor, Mykaela Handschumacher and
Sammi Clayton. Jordan Fox opened the game scoring
six straight points in the first minute of the game and
Hall scored six straight points in 44 seconds to push the
score to 12-2 with just 2:31 off the clock. Things went
from bad to worse for Tygarts in the second quarter as
Fox and Hall combined for 14 more points as the Lady
Devils built a 44-9 lead at half.
After halftime, Jenna Nichols caught fire and had 12 of
her 14 points in the second half. She was one of the four
Lady Devils to reach double digits for the contest. Hall
led the way with 21, Fox added 16, and Addie Furr had
10. Hall just missed a triple double adding 10 rebounds
and 8 steals. Fox had her best all-around game with 10
rebounds, 8 assists, and 6 steals.
Scoring for the Lady Devils included: Hall, 21; Fox, 16;
Nichols, 14; Furr, 10; Taylor, 6; Handschumacher, 4;
Cox, 4; Bennett, 4; Jemison, 2; Allen, 2 and Buzzard, 1.
Tough Win
ST. MARYS- There is an old adage in basketball that
great players play great in big games. That was very
evident in St. Marys’ come-from-behind, 69-65, win
over the Magnolia Lady Blue Eagles March 2 in the
regional final. Ashley Hall and Jordan Fox took over the
game with St. Marys down 11 points with under a minute
to go in the third and the two outscored Magnolia 28-13
in the final 8:50 of the hotly contested game to will their
team to the victory. Fox and Hall had 24 of their team’s
28 points down the stretch.
Nichols scored seven of her 11 points in the third quarter
to help keep the Lady Devils within striking distance
early in the second half. Fox scored the final two baskets
of the third quarter and cut the Magnolia lead to seven
points, 52-45. The lead was cut to one point, 55-56 and
that’s when Hall decided to take over and complete the
comeback with eight points over the final four minutes
of play, helped along with Handschumacher’s key
rebounding and the charge taken by Jemison.
Scoring for the Lady Devils included: Hall, 26; Fox, 20;
Nichols, 11; Jemison, 6; Furr, 4 and Taylor, 2.
Sectionals Begin
NEW MARTINSVILLE-The Lady Devils traveled up
route two to face off against the Clay-Battelle Cee Bee’s
in round one of the class A, region 1 sectional tournament
on Feb. 23. The two teams found themselves tied up at
halftime, 27-27. The now 20-3 Lady Devils turned on
the jets at the end of half time by outscoring the Cee
Bees 41-23. The Devils claimed victory with a score of
68-50. The win advances the Lady Devils to Thursday’s
sectional final against the Tyler Consolidated Knights
after they upset higher seed Valley Wetzel, 77-67.
Scoring for the game shows: Fox, 23; Hall, 13; Jemison,
13; Nichols, 12; Furr, 5; Taylor, 2.
Sectional Victory
NEW MARTINSVILLE- The Lady Devils traveled to
Magnolia High School on Feb. 25 to face off against
the Tyler Consolidated Knights in the final round of the
class A, region 1 sectional tournament. All-state forward
Ashley Hall scored 13 of her 33 in the opening eight
minutes of the contest to allow the Devils to push away
from the Knights. The Devils’ offense continued to click
in the second quarter allowing St. Marys to lead, 42-24
going into halftime. The knights never recovered in the
second half of the contest allowing the Lady Devils to
claim the sectional championship once again with a final
score of 86-40.
Scoring for the game lists as follows: Hall, 33; Nichols,
20; Fox, 15; Furr, 4; Handschumacher, 4; Bennett, 2;
Taylor, 2.
State Bound Win
ST. MARYS- The Lady Devils capped off the regular
season with a convincing 65-49 win over the ninthranked Wheeling Central Maroon Knights on Feb. 17.
In the game, both teams started slow with the Maroon
Knights taking an early 5-4 lead midway through the
first quarter. St. Marys closed the quarter on a 10-4 run,
however, to lead 14-9. Jordan Fox scored six points
in the final 27 seconds to put St. Marys up 32-19 at
halftime.
Central battled hard in the second half, but could never
really make a run to get back into the game as the Lady
Devils maintained a 10 to 12-point advantage throughout
the third quarter. Fox reached her 1000th point on the
first of two free throws with 1:14 left in the third period.
The closest Wheeling Central could get down the stretch
was 52-44, but the Lady Devils closed out the game on a
13-5 run to cap off the 16-point win.

Nichols, 10; Furr, 8; Jemison, 8; Taylor, 4 and Clayton,

CHARLESTON- After falling behind seven-time
defending state champion St. Joseph Central by 17
points with 5:46 left in the third quarter on March 11
Class A semifinal showdown at the Charleston Civic
Center, the Lady Devils fell just short of one of the
greatest comebacks in state tournament history. When
the third quarter started, the Lady Irish went on a 7-0
run to take a 17-point, 37-20 lead with 5:46 left in the
frame. It looked like the Lady Irish were on the verge of
breaking open the contest, but St. Marys was not about
to throw in the towel just yet.
The comeback started with a Whitney Jemison inside
hoop and the back-to-back baskets by Hall and Fox to
cut the deficit to 11 at 37-26 midway through the third.
Hall drove to the hoop and scored off a driving layup and was fouled with 6:04 to cut the St. Joe lead to
39-37. Fox then made four consecutive free throws in
27 second to give the Lady Devils the lead, 41-39. St.
Joseph reclaimed the lead and the Lady Devils were
never able to get the lead back. St. Marys ended another
great season at 23-4.

Honors
First Round Success
CHARLESTON- The St. Marys Lady Devils limited
Madonna to only 11 points in the middle two quarters
on March 10 at the Charleston Civic Center and coasted

into the semifinals with a relatively easy 59-36 win. St.

intermission. The Lady Devils’ defense was impressive

from steals leading to 26 points off the miscues. Included
in that 26 points, were 14 fast-break points where the
forced turnovers led to breakouts and easy buckets.
St. Marys also held Madonna to 11 of 46 shooting
from the field for 23.9 percent shooting on the night.
In contrast, the Lady Devils were 25 of 63 shooting for
a respectable 39.6 percent. St. Marys was particularly
good inside the lane, scoring 38 points in the paint to
only 14 for the Lady Blue Dons. The Lady Devils will

try out for this program, but they
must audition and not everyone
is accepted. They spent two
months practicing and preparing for the performance. While
at the competition the students
had two days to prepare before
their performace. Rachel and
Luke went through auditions to
be able to perform with a large
array of students from schools
all over the state. They sang a
large selection of songs including: “Quanta Qualia,” “Bumble
Bee,” “As pants the Heart” and
“Sure on this Shining Knight”.
It is a huge honor to be selected
and be able to perform at All

end doing the right thing. “High
Stakes” is about Mindy being put
to the test by an important exam.
