Vickie’s Views
Well this month’s SHOW was the best ever!! I just cannot say enough good things
about how the club members came together and put on one heck of a show. Alan
Glover and Sear’s came through again this year with some awesome silent auction
items and the big tool box we raffled off. It was worth $1,100.00 and we raised
$1000.00 with the tickets, not too bad. The dunking booth was fun, and I think most
of the money came from the employee’s at Sears trying to dunk the boss! We also
had club members that donated so many things to our silent auction. Our 50/50
ticket sellers just blew me away with the amount they sold this year. One of our own
Greg Baranek won $972.00. (he told me a lot of it went into a bathroom renovation).
Congrats on that awesome win! Randy, Sally, Katie and her friends, thanks so much, the
highest 50/50 ever! The Judges, Darryl, Buck, Leron, and Joe (thanks for filling in) did
an awesome job. They started right away and got the job done! Registration was Rose,
Cindy and John, and as usual they were great. Bill Reigart was in charge of the parking
Committee and it also went very good. Bill Anderson and Bill Mitchell along with the
NJROTC gang helped out so much. Denise and Sierra worked the sales table tent, and
could not have done better. Everyone was laughing and having such a good time, I
think it was the hugs Denise was giving out. Connie was tearing up the 50/50 tickets
for me, and she sure stayed busy. We finally had to get her some help. My daughter
Angie, my friend Beth, Jamey (my daughter’s boyfriend), Adam and Charles worked the
food tent for us. They stayed so busy and did such a great job. Can’t believe we ran
out of food when we tripled the order from last year and then Manny went to Publix
and bought three more boxes and we sold out of those too. We bought extra drinks
thinking we would have some for the upcoming cruise-ins, but we ran out of them too.
My son Joey and his friends Kevin and Matt ran the Hot Wheel races. Everyone enjoyed
that, including me even though my AMX was out on the first run. Cheryl took care of
the Kiddie Kar show and had the kids coloring and having a good time. Jay-C donated
the prize for the people’s choice award, it was a piece of metal with Aiken Horsepower’s
Spring Fling painted on it and he pinstriped it at the show, it was really awesome to
watch, and then he surprised me and Manny with one he did for us! We love it, and it
is now in the man cave. Darryl and Ann did such a good job all around, the trophies,
helping so much with the show, you all made this show a really fun event for me. And
once again this year Paul did an awesome job. He took care of giving out all the door
prizes, had people coming up to bid on the auction items, gave away t-shirts and
sunglasses to get the bids going and just kept us going strong! He even had the ladies
coming up to the tent telling him what fun he was. When I got home my cheeks were
hurting from smiling so much!
As usual the club meeting was the following Monday night at the Golden Coral. We
had a full house, and had a great meeting. Went over the Spring Fling and what a
success it was. Just wait till next year, it is our 10th Annual Spring Fling, so we are going
for 200 cars.

Now the rest of the year we will continue to do our cruise-ins and whatever else we
want to do.
So again THANKS to all the club members
that have helped with our events and
making everything we do so much fun.
Keep on Rollin!!
Vickie
Manny's Mania
A big SIGH…….. that is because the
Spring Fling has now come and gone
and we can rest our minds until next
year. As Vickie stated above it was the
largest crowd that we have ever had.
We had 178 paid entries, at least 20
something that came in after the 12:00
deadline, they did not pay and they were
not judged. So Alan, we actually hit your
200 mark this year. And as always a big
thanks to all who helped in the planning
and the running of our big show this
year. What a success it was.
Well Vickie has done it to me again;
starting this Saturday the club is going to
cruise-in to the Make-A-Wish car show,
so if you want to cruise to the show as
a club, be at Home Depot before 8:45
am. Make sure if you go to the MakeA-Wish show that you write down that
you are an Aiken Horsepower member
on their form. Make-A-Wish gives out
a trophy and $100.00 for the most club
participation. As you remember, we won
it last year, and I was told no club has
ever won it two years in a row, and that
is something that I want to change. The
following Friday night, May 4th we have
our cruise-in to Langley pond again to
watch the movie American Graffiti put
on by Aiken County Parks and Recreation
Department. Once again we will meet
at Reid’s parking lot and cruise on in
together. We were going to have it at
the Mall, but the Mall shot it down, even
though we were going to be behind
Sears. That is their loss. Then the next
day is our regular 1st Saturday cruise-in
at Home Depot, but the time changes to
6pm – 8pm. The following weekend is
the cruise-in to Cumberland Village from
3pm – 5pm. They have asked us to bring
the trailer and play music. So, if you have
some old 50’s CD’s and would like to
bring them please do. Then last but not
least is our cruise-in to the Convocation
Center is on May 19th. The time will
be posted later for that one. We are
trying to get the same area and the field
behind it. That would allow more club
members to participate this year instead
of just the 30 we had last year. This is a
health fair, and they give away a lot of
goodies. They also give out some good
medical advice. We actually had a great
time last year just sitting around the tent
talking cars. So, as you can see, Vickie is
keeping me pretty busy again this year.
So until next month, Burn rubber till
next time,
Manny
In 1860.....
Charles Goodyear accidentally
discovered the rubber vulcanizing
process, he patented the process, but
couldn’t come up with any practical
use for it and died penniless. The
Goodyear tire and rubber Company
was named after him.
In 1886.....
BF Goodrich company was started
with many firsts: First synthetic
rubber tire, first tubeless tire, first
American-made radial tire, the first
space saver spare and the first “run
flat” tire.

That’s right club members, in case you forgot – we are pleased to list your automotive associated ads in the newsletter. Whether it be a “for sale:
or “for want” just let me know in some sort of written form, and I will put it in the very next newsletter. It will only run once (kinda like some cars I
have owned) so if you want it to run again you have to let me know each time. Another reminder – I don’t know what you have, what it’s called,
or what it is used for, so be sure that you include all the pertinent details, as to name, size, color, etc. and who and where to contact.
