From the Principal
Mrs. Sarah Zembruski
Trailside Point School is
a melting pot of students,
staff and parents. We all
come from different walks of life and experiences; together we are all truly a great
family of community members.
As a family we work together for our
students. Our priorities are keeping our
students safe and providing a great education that will benefit our students for a lifetime. We have various activities, clubs and
resources to help ensure we educate the
whole child and make education fun and
beneficial for any student to participate.
Trailside Panthers are recognized for
their benchmark achievement and quarterly grades. Panthers are also rewarded
quarterly for their outstanding behavior and
attendance.
Events
include picnics in the
park, pizza days, movies in the gym, and
various field trips.
Trailside Point is a
cohesive learning environment in which students follow the Panther P.A.C.T. (Personal Best, Accountable,
Critical Thinker, Tolerant) creating a positive student-centered environment.
Trailside Point was recognized by the
Arizona Anti-Defamation League as a No
Place for Hate school. Our students commit
themselves to appreciating diversity, promoting inclusion, and showing respect for
others.
We thank you for allowing us the opportunity of being a part of your child’s education and look forward to working together
in your child’s success.

Core curriculum
MATH
ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS
TECHNOLOGY
Arizona’s College and Career Ready Standards require students to demonstrate a deep understanding of math and develop strong critical thinking skills. Laveen recently adopted
new curriculum for mathematics, which will be in full use beginning in the 2014-2015 school year. This includes McGrawHill’s My Math for Grades K-5 and Glencoe Mathematics for
Grades 6-8. These programs are aligned to our new state
standards and have a digital platform giving students the
ability to access resources, activities, and other online tools.
Advanced coursework including high school level algebra is
offered at all schools.
Arizona’s College and Career Ready Standards for English
Language Arts call for an integrated approach to teaching
reading, writing, language, speaking and listening. We strive
to promote literacy across all of our content areas, exposing
students to a rich balance of fiction and nonfiction texts. Students read selections from a wide range of text types and integrate research, writing and media skills through the use of
student technology devices. Recently adopted curriculum includes McGraw-Hill’s Reading Wonders for Grades K-3 and
Pearson’s Reading Street for Grades 4 and 5 and Common
Core Literature for Grades 6-8.
One of the Laveen District’s goals is to accelerate the use of
technology to support student achievement by providing a 2:1
student to device ratio and by providing resources and training
to integrate technology into curriculum and instruction by
2015. Much of our current technology for student learning was
funded by the capital override passed by Laveen voters in 2012.
Each of our campuses has classroom sets of student devices in
every grade level, consisting of iPads or Chromebooks. All students have a computer user account, which can be accessed
from both school and at home to share documents and projects
with other classmates and the teacher.
District offered programs
BEFORE/ AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS
SPECIAL EDUCATION
The Kids Klub program offers carefully planned, well-supervised
activities for children in grades kindergarten through sixth. Activities are designed to not only interest your child, but also foster his/
her emotional well-being and social, physical, and critical thinking
skills. Activities include games, sports, hands-on science, arts and
crafts, and music. Time is set aside for homework assistance and
snacks are provided. Kids Klub is licensed by the Arizona Department of Health Services.
Special education is available for students found to be eligible
for and in need of special education services. The school provides Special Education according to an individualized education program (IEP) which provides a free and appropriate
public education. Families with preschool aged children may
have them screened for special education on scheduled dates
throughout the year.
FULL DAY KINDERGARTEN
Students who are five years old
by August 31 of each year may
enroll in Full Day Kindergarten.
Children who reach age five by
December 31 may be accepted
based on level of readiness. There
is no fee to attend.
BUS TRANSPORTATION
PRESCHOOL
Students who reside within the District boundaries and live more than one mile from their
neighborhood school are bused to school.
Preschool is available for students age three (potty-trained) to five
years old. Preschool programs are designed to provide developmentally appropriate social, educational, and physical experiences that
enhance the child as a whole. Visits by guest speakers and participation in family oriented off-campus activities are used to broaden
children’s understanding of their community.
Bus transportation is not available to students
who are open-enrolled in a school other than
their neighborhood school.
CHILD NUTRITION
Proper nutrition is important for growing bodies and growing minds. As part of
the National School Lunch program, your children are guaranteed a healthful
breakfast and lunch that are rich in whole grains, fruits, and vegetables.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and we are proud to offer free
breakfast to all of our students.
Lunch is $2.10. Families may qualify for free or reduced lunch prices.
GIFTED EDUCATION
Laveen Enrichment and Advanced Academic Pacing (LEAAP) is a
program for students with superior intellect or advanced learning
ability. LEAAP offers special instruction to help the student achieve
at levels commensurate with his or her intellect and ability. Differentiated classroom instruction, acceleration into a higher grade, single
subject acceleration or advanced placement/honor classes are some of
the instruction this program uses.
