Returns will be subject to a handling charge of 20%, plus return carriage charge. Open packs cannot be
returned for credit.
Your right to return
Please note our standard carriage terms:
1. All damages must be reported within 4 days.
2. Any damaged or missing goods must be signed for accordingly (ie “damaged” or “missing”). Phrases
such as “unchecked” will not be accepted.
3. Your notice of intent to return damaged goods must be made within 14 days.
4. Before returning any goods a return order number must be obtained from Havwoods’ Sales Department.
Please write this number, together with the names of both sender and recipient, clearly on each unit
being returned.
5. If goods are refused (ie not offloaded) please ensure that the documentation recording this also contains
your representatives name, signature and date.
6. Please ensure that you obtain a name, signature and date from whomsoever accepts goods for return
(eg, the van driver or Havwoods representative).
7. Do not allow any driver to remove goods without documentation from his company instructing him to
do so; such documentation may be arranged through Havwoods’ transport department. NB If Havwoods’
permission to remove is not obtained and the goods go missing Havwoods will not accept any
responsibility to issue a refund.
8. Please note that, in the case of special or timed deliveries, delivery charges excluded, Havwoods cannot
accept responsibility for consequential loss due to late delivery.
NB Warranties only applicable to floors installed with Havwoods fixing products and
maintained with Havwoods maintenance products, unless otherwise stated.

The Havwoods head office is an impressive

north of Manchester. The subject of many
favourable comments from visiting architects
and specifiers, it includes an art galleryinspired showroom which presents a blank
canvas for the hundreds of 1150 x 400mm
sample panels. To ensure the correct levels

A vital part of the Havwoods service, the sample
picking room, run from our Midlands premises, is
responsible for sending out thousands of samples
to every corner of the earth every single month, yet
all orders received before 2.00pm are dispatched on
the day they are received. But it is the organisation
of the vast, 65,000 square feet of warehousing
which is key to providing Havwoods’ service and
the need to control distribution has led to
investment in the company’s own transport fleet.

New concept Havwoods showrooms similar to the one in London’s Clerkenwell have now opened in both Berlin and
Sydney, and both enjoyed private launch events specifically tailored to suit.
As a newcomer to Germany, the Berlin launch was held over a two-day period to allow ample time to properly introduce
the Havwoods philosophy to the invited designers, architects and media. In Australia, however, Havwoods have been the
foremost wood flooring supplier for several years, so the event was a rather more relaxed affair, celebrating the opening
of such an impressive space in the heart of Sydney’s Central Business District.

The Wood Book has been a key part of our Havwoods service for well over five years. In that time it has grown in both size and
scope, and evolved in appearance. Many of you were kind enough to provide Wood Book feedback as requested in our last
issue, and we are doing our best to integrate your comments. For example, you will see that we have now included an index by
product name as some of you requested.
We were overwhelmed by the number of highly complimentary comments we received in our survey, particularly by the
number of you who said that you consider The Wood Book to be a highly inspirational publication, but we know that, above all

not yet be totally familiar. Par-ky are Europe’s leading producer
of wood veneer flooring. Real wood with a lacquered finish;
ultra-tough due to a technique known as Double-Sided
Impregnation, and very competitively priced.

vast majority of our timber is suitable for use as cladding on

IN OUR HAVWOODS
WIN-WIN COMPETITION?
Several months ago judges selected winners in the first
round of our Havwoods Win-Win competition, and it was
far from straightforward! Eventually, they agreed on two
winners from Europe and two from Australia.
Marc Barnes impressed with the jigsaw puzzle floor he
created for his young daughter by using a biscuit joint to
join character grade Venture Plank together and using
MDF templates to cut out 37 individual pieces. The floor
was finished with an oak and walnut striped border. In
Australia, Blank Creatives used Alabastro (p130) and
Bronzo (p132) chevrons from The Italian Collection to
great effect to line counters, table tops and walls in this
lively Sydney coffee shop; in fact, they used it just about
everywhere except for the floor. And back in the UK,
Dan Mason, one of our earliest entrants really thought
outside the box to create this totally unique kitchen
using products from our Relik and Vertical ranges.
Unfortunately, to date we have been unable to obtain
print quality images of our fourth winner, interior
designer Tara Dennis.

We have always maintained that a good wood floor relies on both good products appropriately chosen for their job and an
excellent fitter, which is why we have now formed the Havwoods Academy to help train fitters the Havwoods way (see p188).
For example, the traditional way to fit a floor around a pipe is to drill a hole and remove a wedge of wood. But this is neither
simple nor particularly neat, since it leaves two cut lines in close proximity to each other. Instead we recommend drilling the
hole and cutting straight across the plank as shown below – both neater and simpler. Pipe ferrules are available from
Havwoods Accessories if required.

TIMBER MASTERCLASS FROM HAVWOODS
More and more frequently we find our
timber being used for bespoke table
tops, but if your budget won’t stretch
to this and you have a competent
carpenter, basic furniture can be
transformed with customised tops and
shelves made from our pre-finished
engineered timber. Simply remove the
engineered back beneath the wear layer
using a router and mitre the joints to
look like a solid piece of wood. We’ve
used products from both our Par-ky and
Relik ranges to show that wood with
any depth of wear layer may be used.

HENLEY
Henley offers a fashion forward product which is best described as a pre-finished plank with texture. Every
product is tested to ensure that the processes involved to create these textures do not weaken the structure of the
wood itself, thus making them an excellent choice in high footfall applications.
Henley is a quality, high performance, engineered board with a hardwood surface layer which accounts for
around 25% or more of the overall depth, usually backed by a high quality birch ply and with a traditional
tongue and groove profile – but sawing, brushing, burning and planing techniques add character and tremendous
visual interest without going as far as a reclaimed board.
The 19mm products feature a 4mm lamella of European oak, whilst the lamella on the 20mm planks is 6mm thick.
Products marked with an asterisk are Cradle to Cradle Certified™ Bronze and are also available to order as
herringbone or chevron battens and in three or four additional widths.
Henley boards range from 13-22mm thick, and from 170-260mm wide. The products feature an oiled finish
which gives a natural appearance and, with the exception of the end grain and walnut, are suitable for use over
underfloor heating.

VENTURE PLANK
Venture Plank is a quality, high performance, engineered board characterised by a comprehensive spectrum of
interesting shades and a smooth finish. It is ideal for most applications.
A two-layered construction comprises of a hardwood surface which accounts for around 25% or more of the overall
depth, backed by a technically superior birch ply which ensures greater stability. It has a traditional tongue and
groove profile with a bevelled or micro-bevelled edge and is milled to exceptional machining standards.
Venture Plank boards range from 13-21mm thick, and from 140-260mm wide. The majority of products are finished
with a fourth generation UV cured Hardwax Oil, which provides exceptional durability whilst maintaining a natural
appearance, and are suitable for use over underfloor heating.
The Venture Plank range is sourced from superior European mills. The 19mm pre-finished boards feature a 4mm
wear layer with particularly interesting finishes, especially those which are thermally treated (fired). This ecologically
sound treatment process uses no chemical additives to produce a dark timber with the colour running throughout
the lamella, offering a genuinely viable alternative to tropical hardwoods. Furthermore, the process reduces the
moisture content, increasing decay- and water-resistance, and can increase stability by more than 50%.
The 13mm and 20mm feature a particularly thick lamella (4mm on the 13mm products and 6mm on the 20mm
products). Those denoted by an asterisk are Cradle to Cradle Certified™ Bronze and are also available as FSC®
Certified (FSC-C009500) as a special order.

The Maple Building is a Linton Group renovation development of
a landmark, 80,000 square foot redbrick former factory in Kentish
Town. Now entirely reconfigured and with two new floors added,
it provides 50 luxury flats and seven prime penthouse apartments
with views across London.
Designers Gordon-Duff and Linton are long-time fans of our
Venture Plank Fendi and decided to use it here too, choosing the
character grade plank throughout the lower levels and prime grade
Fendi in the penthouses. If you are also a Fendi fan but would like
something with texture check out HW918 Henley Oak Holten (p44)
or BPF21/1640/180 Henley Oak Grove (p46), which has a more
pronounced grey tone in life than it does in photographs.

TRAPA
This Austrian range is the creme de la creme of engineered timber flooring, so stable that it will withstand
temperatures up to 60°C, requires no expansion gaps for stretches of up to 40m, and may even be fitted in a sauna!
Trapa boards are mainly of a symmetrical, triple layered construction with a 4mm wear layer and quarter sawn inner
core. Materials are always sourced from the same region to ensure consistency of tannin, colour, etc, and the wood
is both air dried and then kiln dried before being cut. This is a costly and time-consuming process and Trapa is the
only mill in the world who produce wood flooring in this way, but the result is exceptional. Crystallising natural oils,
lye, heat and pressure are used to generate a variety of light-stable colour shades out of each wood species, the
planks are sanded with an ultra-fine grit paper, saturated with oil and buffed with the grain instead of using a circular
motion. The result is an exceptionally flat, exceptionally stable, exceptionally fine board with PEFC™ certification
(not HW10176), suitable for use over underfloor heating and ideal for high footfall areas, available in several
interchangeable dimensions right up to gigantic planks measuring 8m long and over 400mm wide.
The products shown in the following pages are held in stock. The remainder of the 160-strong range is available to
order, with a four-week lead time and only from Havwoods. Please note: Trapa grades do not correspond with
Havwoods standard grading and that the warranty is invalid if Trapa glue, trowel and maintenance kits are not used;
micro-fibre materials should never be used.

Our reclaimed planks are used on floors, walls, ceiling, doors, furniture and even lighting, everywhere from private
residences to restaurants.
Authentic aged timber is not only visually inspiring, it tells the story of its past. Some planks are solid, others offer
additional stability by bonding a thick layer, usually 6mm, of the reclaimed wood to a ply or softwood back. The
latter offers the advantage of making better use of a finite resource and are so stable they may be fitted over
underfloor heating. But whether engineered or solid, all Havwoods reclaimed products are planed, profiled and
sanded using twenty-first century production techniques to produce a board which is straight, flat and of a consistent
depth, ensuring ease of installation in the largest of projects.
Our genuine reclaimed planks are usually supplied in mixed widths, however Relik also includes some reproduction
reclaimed engineered planks which use distressing techniques to replicate the ageing process in a very durable
board available in 120 and 190mm widths. Those described as ‘weathered’ are particularly suitable for really tough
applications, since the processes involved in creating this texturing actually strips out the soft tissues between
the grain.

PUREPLANK FLOORS
PurePlank is an affordable, FSC® certified, 14mm engineered plank ideal for everything from single residences to the
largest multi-residential complex.
A triple layered engineered construction which involves a solid oak surface bonded to two layers of softwood ensures
stability, and the mill’s huge capacity and sophisticated control programme enables it to produce large volumes at
a consistently high quality; a click system also makes installation exceptionally quick which is a further benefit on
large projects.
PurePlank is available in 130 and 180mm planks, as well as a number of 3-strips; 207mm wide planks have a thicker
wear layer. Matt lacquered, oiled and UV oiled finishes are available, as are both bevelled and square edges. It may
be fitted over underfloor heating and a special mounting clip also makes it ideal for use as cladding.
We recommend a further coat of finish after installation for oiled boards; UV oiled boards do not need this.

Conditions for fitting PurePlank on walls are the same as for floorboards, i.e. 45% to 60% humidity and a temperature of between
18°C and 24°C, and packs should be acclimatised for around 48 hours. The walls to be clad should not deviate from true by more
than 2mm over 2 metres.
Apply wood or construction glue to the structural timbers to the height of one board. Lay the first board, with the tongue removed,
to the glued grid and fix it from the above with the clips. Fit the mounting clip into the protruding groove, then screw it to each timber
with a wood screw. Connect the subsequent boards together using the locks, knocking them home. Wooden or aluminium angle bars
or an aluminium flat bar may be used as a decorative and protective finish on the trimmed edge.

SPECIAL ORDER – CBRE OFFICES, LONDON
Design compiles all of our herringbone, chevron and Versailles patterns, with the exception of the thinner blocks in
Italian collection, together in one place.
It includes a number of beautifully machined unfinished solid oak herringbone blocks, in a variety of grades and
sizes, for completion on site; pre-finished engineered herringbone blocks and chevrons which may be fitted over
underfloor heating; and tumbled and reclaimed blocks, both solid and engineered. The Versailles patterns are
available both as pre-finished panels, some of which may be fitted over underfloor heating, and as unfinished,
individual solid oak blocks.
A matching plank to create a border is available for some herringbone blocks and all chevrons.
All herringbone and chevron blocks (except PAR products) are supplied either with a groove on three sides and
tongue on one, or two sides groove, two sides tongue. Those marked ‘handed’ are supplied as left- and right-handed
and will be supplied in the correct ratio.
All engineered and solid blocks should be installed fully bonded, however Europlank is supplied with loose tongues
to enable a floating installation if required (NB installation guidelines available from our website.)

MOUNT STREET SALON
Luxury jewellery brand Stephen Webster’s new flagship
store in London is unusual in many ways, not least
because it seems almost hidden away on the second
floor of a Grade II listed building overlooking Berkeley
Square. But this is deliberate; this is not a store in the
conventional sense, but an intimate space for private
shopping experiences, entertaining clients and hosting
parties, as if they were in the designer’s own home.
And so well have architects and interior designer’s Guy
Holloway captured Wester’s flamboyant style that the
adjectives most frequently used to describe his jewellery
could equally be used to describe the space: it is bold,
innovative and very glamorous.
But the path was far from smooth; in fact, the sub floor
was found to be so uneven that it was feared a plank
would have to be chosen in place of the originally
specified block. But with help from Havwoods, our Fendi
prime grade herringbone now graces a spectacular space.
Dressed with a hand knotted Tibetan rug by Alexander
McQueen, with chandeliers by Fredrikson Stallard and
Mark Brazier-Jones, furniture pieces by Alex Turco and
Tom Faulkner, and a very personal collection of artwork
including pieces by Tracey Emin we feel that it is
surrounded by the style it deserves.

Cited as one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, Budapest is often referred to as the Pearl of the Danube, and is actually
ranked the “second best city in the world” by Condé Nast Traveller. Its unique history involves nearly 150 years of Ottoman
rule and a position as second capital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, its buildings are a rich mix of architectural styles,
primarily Neo-Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical and its own blend of Art Nouveau, and much of the city, including
the banks of the Danube and Andrássy Avenue, are official World Heritage sites.
Located at the centre of it all, just a few minutes walk from the Danube, is the luxury Ritz-Carlton hotel, where owners
Marriott International commissioned B3 Designers to create a standalone restaurant out of an under utilised breakfast room.
As any hotelier will confirm, the big challenge is always to draw patrons in from street level, and to do this they needed to
create a casual, independent space, yet one which still embodied the elegance and classic style of the hotel itself. Since most
of the buildings internal classic architecture is protected, they decided to mirror it with elegant furniture and a material pallet
of rose gold, marble, velvet and walnut.
Havwoods are frequently suppliers to B3 and this prestigious application was no exception, utilising pre-finished Versailles
panels and reclaimed Venetian Lagoon Oak chevrons laid in a Hungarian point formation.

Sandbanks is the tiny peninsula which lies between
Poole Harbour in Dorset and the English Channel.
Just half a square mile of golden sand it is purported
to be the fourth most expensive area in the world in
which to live, where 15 seaside homes are currently on
the market for a combined asking price of £80 million!
Given the resorts exclusivity, re-development is the
order of the day, with homes just a few years old
being demolished to make way for new buildings.
Part of the Pegasus Life portfolio, ACE is not an
individual house but a development of nine threeand four-bedroomed open-plan apartments,
complete with shared wellbeing area and private
terrace leading onto the beach. Each apartment is
light and bright, with floor to ceiling windows and
balconies to take advantage of the stupendous
views across Poole Harbour and out to sea.

Inspired by the intricate floors of Italy, this collection of narrower, thinner planks, chevron and herringbone blocks
provide more flexibility for laying in complex patterns or mixing with tiles in other materials. A chevron, a herringbone
block and a plank are available in every shade (with the exception of the 15mm thick special product shown on
page 133).
A highly consistent engineered board with two layers: a surface of select grade slow-grown European oak which
accounts for over 1/3 of the overall depth is backed with a spruce or birch ply, Italian collection features a traditional
tongue and groove profile.
Italian collection boards have a lacquered finish, are FSC® certified, and are suitable for fitting over underfloor heating.
Please note that all herringbone and chevron blocks are supplied with a groove on two sides and tongue on two

FUSION
Fusion is a beautiful, exceptionally durable and cost-effective plank perfect for all applications right up to the
toughest, high-footfall commercial usage.
As the name suggests, Fusion uses the very latest technology to reproduce some of our most popular boards onto
HDF (High Density Fibre-board) which is far harder than oak and, unlike wood in its unprocessed state, not cellular
in structure. This means that it will not compress on impact and so can be finished with multiple coats of an ultrahard, aluminium technology matt lacquer.
The result is a beautiful, warm, matt lacquered, 14mm PEFC certified bevelled plank, with a click system profile which
is installed as a floating floor and may be fitted over underfloor heating. It exhibits excellent acoustic and slip resistant
properties and is virtually impossible to accidentally scratch, mark or dent; 190.5mm wide.

These Uniclic planks provide exceptional value, making a real wood floor an option on even the tightest of budgets.
Par-ky is the European market leader in wood veneer products. A thin sliver of prime grade wood forms the top
layer, providing unique aesthetics which are the mark of a real wood floor. This is bonded to an ultra-strong HDF
core and sealed with no fewer than eight layers of UV cured lacquer.
Our entire Par-ky collection is now available in two thicknesses: 7.2mm and 12mm. In addition to a thicker top layer
of hardwood, the 12mm products also incorporate a layer of cork, aiding both thermal and acoustic insulation.
All Par-ky planks feature a bevelled edge and may be fitted over underfloor heating.
Eight hardened layers of lacquer protect
the floor from moisture and dirt.
Extra toughness is achieved through double
sided impregnation. During the pressing
process the wood is saturated with glue.
This makes contact with the varnish, which
impregnates from the top, and hardens to
form an exceptionally hard surface.
Cork layer on 12mm products for
acoustic and thermal insulation.
The patented Uniclic fixing system
makes installation supremely easy.
High Density Fibreboard is considerably
harder than hardwood and not cellular in
structure so will not compress on impact.

This engineered range provides excellent value for money in a click system product.
A two-layered, ply-backed plank from the world’s foremost producer of 1-strip boards, the 14.5mm collection features
a 3mm hardwood lamella, whilst Europlank Midi at 12.7mm thick offers an excellent visual appearance with some
exciting finishes in a very cost-effective board.
Europlank includes 140 and 180mm wide planks with square, bevelled and micro-bevelled edges and may be fitted
over underfloor heating. Europlank herringbone blocks can also be found in our Design from Havwoods collection
(see page 106)

When the Australian-owned structural, civil and
specialist engineering consultancy moved their
Brisbane headquarters to an entire floor of Lend
Lease’s K1 development at the RNA they appointed
Conrad Gargett to provide the workplace design
and redefined their method of working. As can be
seen from these images, traditional spaces such as
the reception, lunch room and circulation spaces
are activated with contemporary timber clad work
benches and planning tables in order to facilitate
greater collaboration, both within the company and
with clients and consultants – another novel use of
our Europlank range.
Havwoods were specified by the architects but it
was the first time working with fit out managers

Kahrs group. The mill has a reputation for uncompromising quality, professionalism and environmental responsibility
and their finishes are exciting; in fact, Karelia ranges have won the prestigious Red Dot award three times in the
last five years.
Of triple-layered construction with a hardwood lamella of 3.5mm, this 14mm plank features a click system for
easy installation.
138 and 188mm wide planks featuring both square and bevelled edges and in a choice of finishes are held in stock;
most may be fitted over underfloor heating. All Karelia products are available to order with PEFC™ certification and

The classic Kahrs triple-layered construction is available in one- and three-strip planks, both oiled and lacquered, and
we now stock a wider range than ever before, all at exceptional prices. In addition to the 15mm thick products listed,
other products are available to order in a variety of thicknesses including 10mm, 13mm, 20mm and 22mm.
Kahrs planks are suitable for both commercial and residential installations and may be fitted over underfloor heating
(conditions do apply, please ask for details before specifying). Like all Havwoods’ stock products they can be
delivered next day to anywhere in the UK.

JUNCKERS
Junckers is a very well known and well respected Danish producer and Havwoods are one of their largest UK
stockists, concentrating solely on their pre-finished solid hardwood planks. All feature Junckers’ own unique clip
fixing system and boards over 20mm thick can also be nailed down to the joists to form a structural floor. These are
also the only solid wood floors which we at Havwoods are prepared to supply for fitting over underfloor heating
and Junckers have full technical data sheets to ensure a successful installation (please ask for details). Almost without
exception, all planks are available in a choice of finishes: oiled, or with ultra-matt or silk-matt lacquers.
Fleming Juncker had a deep and specific interest in beech timber and, whilst it is almost 40 years since the company
was under his management, beech remains a key timber in both their commercial and residential product offering
and in their sports and dance floors for which the brand remains revered. Junckers sports floors are the choice
of athletes; as with all their 22mm boards they are BREEAM A+ rated and are also certified to BSEN 14904 parts
A3 and A4.

visually diverse collection which has been designed specifically for the task.
Vertical comprises of new and reclaimed planks, both solid and engineered, and all milled to twenty-first century
tolerances. It also includes a collection of interlocking panels which offer an exceptionally easy way to create a
stunning feature with mosaics of reclaimed wood bonded in intricate patterns to large backing sheets.

THE CLIMATE CASE FOR
USING MORE WOOD
NATURE VERSUS NURTURE
It is still generally accepted that CO2 emissions are the
principle cause of climate change. Wood is nature’s
own carbon sink: growing trees absorb CO2, then break it
down through photosynthesis, releasing oxygen into the
atmosphere and storing the carbon. One cubic metre of
living wood absorbs almost one tonne of CO2.
Left to nature forests achieve a climax stage where the site
is supporting its maximum fertility. At this stage new trees
only grow as others fall from age or natural disaster. The
dead and dying trees emit CO2 from the stored carbon and,
since growth is only matched by decay, there is no net
increase in carbon storage.
Harvesting trees as they mature allows the carbon to be
stored throughout the life of the wood product, for example,
every cubic metre of wood flooring contains 5kg of carbon.
Furthermore, the market for wood provides an economic
incentive to preserve and replant, particularly important in
tropical regions where deforestation is frequently seen as a
solution to providing energy or land.
CHOOSE WOOD FOR THE SAKE OF THE PLANET
Greater use of wood products will stimulate the expansion
of the forests and so reduce greenhouse gas emissions:
increasing the number of wooden houses in Europe by
just 20% would produce sufficient CO2 savings to account
for around half of the reductions prescribed by the Kyoto
Protocol! And Europe alone grows enough wood annually
to build such a house every single second.
The production and processing of wood is also highly
energy-efficient: every cubic metre of wood used as
a substitute for other building materials reduces CO2
emissions by, on average, 1.1 tonnes. It is thermally
efficient, and even at the end of its life a wood product
remains ecologically useful since it can be reused,
recycled, or used as a carbon-neutral biomass energy
substitute for fossil fuels.
ENSURE THE WOOD YOU USE IS THE RIGHT WOOD
A number of international, non-governmental
organizations promote the responsible management of
the world’s forests, principally the PEFC™ (Program for
the Endorsement of Forest Certification), the Cradle to
Cradle Products Innovation Institute (administrator for
the Cradle to Cradle Certified™ Products Program) and
the FSC® (the Forest Stewardship Council). In addition,
a European Union Timber Regulation (EU995/2010) is
now in place which makes it illegal to place illegally
harvested timber and timber products on the European
Union marketplace. Havwoods, of course, have their own,
extremely stringent requirements as to the provenance
and sustainability of any timber which bears the
Havwoods name.
So opt for wood since this is undeniably good for the
environment – just always make sure that the wood you
use is the right wood.

HAVWOODS GRADING CRITERIA
MAKING THE GRADE
In these days of international legislation, there is no single, definitive framework
that can be used as an International Standard for Timber Grades.
The rules and standards on timber grading differ from country to country, and even from species to
species. This is understandably confusing for our customers. Oak, however, is by far our most popular
species so, in order to show you a typical spread of grain formation and the properties for each grading
description, we have chosen this species as an example of what to expect.
PRIME
Typically, prime grade has few, if any knots, and these will
be of minimal size. There will also be a minimal amount of
sapwood defects and filler, if any at all. Where filler is used
its colour is carefully selected to complement the wood
rather than to match it exactly, and the colour of the filler
may vary from batch to batch. There will be a relatively
small amount of colour variation in the timber itself

Known as either select or classic grade, typically this will
have a mix of almost prime boards with other planks which
have more knots. Slightly larger knots are allowed in this

do remember, since they are usually selected by eye, there is always scope for an occasional board to fall
outside of these parameters. Part of the beauty of timber is that each and every plank is unique, so these
parameters should be taken simply as an indication, given in good faith and to the best of our knowledge.
Please be aware that Havwoods cannot accept rejection of an entire floor on the basis of a small number of
boards. We strongly advise that our floors should only be fitted by a competent installer who will, as a matter
of course, remove any defects within the normal cutting allowance. We cannot accept rejection of any
flooring once it has been laid.
CHARACTER

SAPWOOD
Sapwood is the living part of the tree through which water and sap flow. It is always lighter in colour than the heartwood,
and certain fuming, smoking and colouring processes emphasise it since it doesn’t react to these treatments to the same
degree. By definition sapwood contains more moisture, however this is no cause for concern since all Havwoods’ timber
has been carefully dried and its stability is ensured when supplied in an engineered form.
