First Focus –
Celebrating Our Success
We want each Guest to Love Every Moment of their visit
to Dollywood. To make this happen, we must first focus
on keeping our Guests safe, while also making them feel
welcome. We must go the extra mile to make sure they have
a great day. When we do these things, we know we are
Creating Memories Worth Repeating. Because these goals
are such an important part of what we do, we track our
performance. Hosts have a great opportunity to influence
these scores and we want to share the measurements with
everyone so we can celebrate our successes.
Each month, if a 2014 score is the same or higher than a
2013 score, every active Host at the appropriate property
is entered in a drawing for a $50 prize that month. These
scores apply to Dollywood, Dollywood’s Splash Country and
Dollywood Cabins. If there is a score improvement, Hosts
working in all areas are eligible. A Host is disqualified
from winning the prize if they have received a disciplinary
action, guest complaint, have a no call/no show or a
preventable injury. We look forward to celebrating our
successes this season!
Here are the three measures:
The Host Safety Score at both Dollywood and Dollywood
Cabins have improved! Congratulations to Elaine Bush who
works in the Cash Office for winning the first Safety Score
Prize!
The Friendliness Scores at Dollywood and Dollywood
Cabins were very positive for April and all Hosts were
entered into the first Friendliness Score Prize drawing. Our
winner is Derek Province who works at the Smoky Mountain
River Rampage.
The NetPromoter scores also improved for April, which
means there was an increase in Guests who want to share
positive comments about their Dollywood experience with
friends. Our first NetPromoter Score Prize winner is Daniel
Felton who works at Mountain Slidewinder.
Thank you for your diligence and hard work to deliver
safe, fast and friendly service to our Guests. You are making a
difference!
Dollywood’s Memorial Day
Ceremony Set for May 26
Dollywood’s 10th Annual Memorial Day ceremony takes place on Monday, May 26,
at 9:15 a.m. in the ticket plaza area by the flag poles. Hosts and Guests are invited to
attend as we pay tribute to our country’s military.
Although these special folks are in our thoughts and prayers throughout the
year, this ceremony is in observance of those who serve today and the many who
have made the ultimate sacrifice for the numerous freedoms we enjoy. Members of
the Volunteer State Veterans Honor Guard and other participants representing all
branches of the armed forces will conduct the ceremony.
In addition to pins or buttons issued by The Dollywood Company, Hosts are
allowed to wear a maximum of one other company-approved pin or button next
to the Host’s name tag. Approved pins and buttons include images of the U.S. flag,
military branch of service, crosses, angels, eagles or butterflies. Consider wearing
a pin that represents your branch of military service or a flag or eagle pin as an
expression of patriotic support to help us honor Memorial Day. Pins and buttons of
other images must be approved by Human Resources.

SIF Scholarship Deadline
Approaching Quickly!
The Jack and Peter Herschend Share It Forward Scholarships are available to employees of Herschend Family Entertainment
and their dependents to pursue higher education. We are very lucky to have these scholarships available to us! If you or one of
your dependents would like to apply, the application deadline is June 1.
Thirty $2,500 scholarships are available for full-time students. New this year, part-time students who plan to take 6-11 credit
hours can receive a scholarship for $100 for each credit hour. A limited number of these scholarships are available.
Scholarship details include:
• For employees and their dependents.
• A main criterion for scholarships is financial need.
• Scholarships are applied to educational expenses at accredited, two- or four-year undergraduate colleges/universities
or vocational schools.
• Application period for 2014-2015 school year closes June 1.
• The scholarships are awarded on an annual basis. Applicants may reapply annually.
• Scholarship awards are subject to change annually.

SIF Scholarships Change Lives
As the deadline for the Jack and Peter Herschend Share It Forward Scholarship approaches, we’d like to share this wonderful
thank you from one of last year’s scholarship recipients.
Dear Share It Forward,
I know most people send a thank you letter right when they have received the scholarship. However, by sending this letter
within this year, I can tell you all the ways this money has helped my life. It has not only helped me financially, it has helped me
grow spiritually.
In the beginning of January, it was very hard, I was off for the winter and I had so much fear inside of me. Just thinking if
I was doing the right thing by going to school and doing it without a paycheck. Was I smart enough for school? I never felt I
was during high school and with a learning disability, it gets very difficult and I have to study more trying to do the same as
others. Then I remember this is God’s plan for me. He would not have opened the doors for me to have this great opportunity
to challenge myself to be a better person. He has blessed my life with never doing without. We made it through January and
the money came in early February.
The one thing this scholarship has done in my life is make my faith in the Lord the strongest it has ever been. I feel Him with
me every day and if I had doubt, it is gone. Therefore, in my life, this scholarship helped me to live knowing that my Lord,
Jesus Christ, will make all things work for good, and God’s love never fails. Thank you again for everything.

SIF FIRST QUARTER UPDATE
In the first quarter of 2014, Share It Forward’s Hardship Assistance program helped several employees who experienced
situational needs. Situational needs happen for many reasons. During the first quarter, some of these reasons included
skyrocketing energy bills due to frigid temperatures, medical emergencies and, unfortunately, the death of a spouse.
Thanks to the generosity of our Hosts giving through payroll deduction, plus a company match of those funds given, the
following is a snapshot of households assisted from January through March across all participating HFE properties:

•Transportation: 42
•Medical/Dental: 15
•Family Emergency: 11
•Unexpected Home Repair: 3

Dollywood. Please unhook and then reconnect the ropes after passing through. Ropes

your photo claim check to the Human Resources office to pick up your photo.
Deaf Awareness Day is Sunday, June 15
Dollywood is proud to again host Deaf Awareness Day on Sunday, June 15.
Interpreters will be stationed throughout Dollywood at shows, craft demonstrations
and attractions. A full schedule of events will be provided at check-in, located
near the front turnstiles, the day of the event. Admission is required for Guests
to participate in Deaf Awareness Day activities. Any interpreters interested in
volunteering during Deaf Awareness Day must contact University of Tennessee’s
Carol LaCava at [email protected] or (865) 974-6228.

Congratulations to the Wardrobe Team, Dollywood’s
most recent Team Excellence and Memory Making
(TEAM) Award winners! For their consistent
commitment to excellence and the Park’s overall
success, the Wardrobe Team is the first TEAM award
winner in 2014. They have gone above the call of
duty by dressing Hosts in super-human fashion!
Understanding that it is important to get our Hosts
prepared to work as quickly as possible, the Wardrobe
Team schedules appointments to serve our Hosts best.
On one very busy day this spring, they had more than

This spring, they have updated uniforms for multiple teams. In just a few short months, they have created 400 new uniforms,
made 1,200 alterations, sewn 600 patches onto garments, and dressed 1,000 Hosts with multiple costumes! WOW!
The TEAM award is presented every few weeks to a new team that has been noticed for their commitment to excellence and
overall park success. All members receive a TEAM Excellence Award pin. Additionally, the name of the winning team is added
to the award, which moves between winning teams.

Matters
Proper lifting technique is crucial
to help us avoid back and shoulder
injuries. Let your lower body do
most of the work when lifting heavy
objects. Bend at the knees and keep
your back straight. Hold the load as
close to your body as possible. Do not
bend over to pick up items!
Other lifting tips include:
• Do not pick up loads that are too
heavy. Either break them into parts
or ask for assistance from another Host. • Assess what you are lifting and have
a plan before you pick it up.
• If you must carry a heavy item, check
that the route to your destination is
clear before lifting the item.
• Avoid lifting above shoulder level.
• Do not twist. Your feet, knees, and
torso should stay in alignment.

What If Award Winner
Congratulations to Jim Hamilton for winning the most recent
What If Award. Jim, an Amusements Host, has taken on additional
responsibilities as Amusements Safety Trainer this season. In
this new position, Jim has raised the standard of training for his
department. Additionally, he has focused on safety standards, What
If scenarios and training for Hosts.
Jim recently provided several suggestions which were presented
to the What If Committee. Jim’s list of suggestions was selected as
the most effective during the last committee meeting.
What If is the process of looking for and identifying conditions
which could cause injury to Guests or Hosts, or damage to
property or equipment. These are conditions where an incident
might happen. Hosts with suggestions for the What If Committee
should submit their ideas to their immediate supervisor. These
recommendations are shared during the committee meeting and
the best suggestion each month receives the award.

Splashing for a Cause!
Saturday, June 7 is Ronald McDonald House Day at Dollywood’s Splash Country. A portion of Dollywood’s Splash Country
admissions on June 7 help support the Ronald McDonald House of Knoxville. Guests also may purchase commemorative event
T-shirts to help raise additional funding for the house which has served nearly 50,000 people since opening in 1985. Ronald
McDonald himself makes an appearance at the event to greet children, and families are encouraged to compete for prizes
each hour in the cornhole tournament.

Way to Go Dollywood-Ready to
Walk On for Health and Park Pride!
Dollywood is prepared to walk to win! On Friday, May 16, Hosts stopped by the
Legacy & Learning Center to sign up to participate in the Humana Walking Tour.
During the kickoff event, participants were able to pick up pedometers provided
by Humana. More than 300 Hosts are ready to walk their way to fitness, and in
the process, track their steps in an effort to beat the other HFE properties! The
competition begins on May 24.
