Nestled between the Beaufort Mountains and the
Strait of Georgia, the Comox Valley is an easy 2½
hour (220 km/137 mile) drive north of Victoria,
or a 75-minute (107 km/66 mile) drive from the
ferry terminals of Departure Bay and Duke Point
near Nanaimo. Drive the scenic Oceanside Route
on the old Island Highway (19A), or take Highway
19, the inland four-lane expressway. Exit # 87, 101,
117, 127, 130 or 144 will lead you to various points
in the Comox Valley.
The Comox Valley is considered the ‘Gateway to
Vancouver Island.’ Direct flights to the Comox Valley
Airport (YQQ) from a variety of urban centres make
the Valley the perfect base for your Island vacation.

48,000 sq. ft. Resort Centre at Crown Isle has a room with a view for you.
The 2000 sq.ft. Ballroom with lofty 12ft-ceilings can host up to 275 people. There are
three banquet/conference rooms and two executive boardrooms with AV equipment,
as well as a private dining room that can seat up to 24 of your corporate or personal

Grand Coastal Resort & Spa is part of the North Island’s
evolution from small resource communities into what is fast
becoming Canada’s new recreation and vacation hot-spot.
Meeting Spaces
Island Coastal Resorts is pleased to present the first of three resorts being developed
in the Campbell River/Comox Valley area on Vancouver Island. The Grand Coastal
Resort and Spa, opening 2009, is two kilometres from the bustling City of Campbell
River.
All three large meeting rooms have fantastic ocean views of the Georgia Strait and
Discovery Passage, and along with two boardrooms, the Grand is suitable for groups
of up to 200. There is onsite catering and wireless internet throughout the resort.
Accommodations The resort has a total of 120 air-conditioned, high-end guest
rooms. All full-size suites have spacious kitchens; smaller suites contain kitchenettes.
The luxurious living rooms include fireplaces, sofa beds, work-desks, Jacuzzi tubs and
large plasma-screen televisions. The bedrooms feature King-size beds and ensuite
bathrooms, and every suite has spectacular ocean views with decks and patio furniture.

Amenities The rejuvenating full-service spa overlooks the Discovery Passage and
the snow capped Coastal Mountains. Unwind in one of the three roof-top hot tubs,
work out in the fitness centre, or take a stroll along Campbell River’s amazing Sea
Walk, located directly in front of the resort. The covered walkways connecting all
three buildings have ocean viewing alcoves in which to sit and relax. There is also
a fine dining restaurant, business centre, newsstand and a gift shop.
Standard amenities include wireless internet access, AV technical equipment and
presentation materials, conference tools and sound equipment. Tables and chairs are
available and can be set up for banquets, meetings and other events.

The Kingfisher Oceanside Resort & Spa is a natural location for small to mid-sized

At 1,200 sq.ft., the newly renovated Kingfisher Room can accommodate up to 100
guests. The 950 sq.ft. Sandpiper Room has a gorgeous ocean view, while the 600
sq.ft. Blue Heron Room is the ideal corporate boardroom. The Sandpiper Room
and the Blue Heron Room each have beach-rock fireplaces and wireless internet.
Accommodations With a total of 64 suites and rooms, guests can select either a
lodge-style Ocean-View Room, or one of the seven different layouts of Beachfront
Suites with views of Gartley Bay. All rooms feature thoughtful touches like jetted
tubs, cordless telephones and heated tile floors. Pet-friendly rooms are available.
Amenities Complimentary amenities include the heated outdoor pool, Jacuzzi,
cedar sauna, West Coast steam cave and fully appointed Oceanside Fitness facility.
Fresh, creative west coast cuisine is served in the Oceanside Dining Room and on
the summer patio.

Alpine Resort
This scenic, coastal-alpine resort is the recreational
and tourism destination of choice on Vancouver Island.
Mount Washington Alpine Resort offers a distinctive
mix of luxurious amenities and outdoor experiences. Meeting Spaces
This all-season destination has ski-in/ski-out accommodation for more than 3,500
guests, and it is an ideal location for business retreats, conferences, family reunions
and international sporting events, such as the 2007 IPC World Cup.
The Alpine Lodge offers four meeting rooms for up to 500 people, while the Raven
Lodge can accommodate up to 250 people, with seating capacity of 150. All meeting
spaces and conference facilities have full catering facilities. Raven Lodge, Mount
Washington’s premiere wedding and special event location, features vaulted ceilings,
cedar post and beam construction, incredible views and covered balconies. An outdoor
ceremony site can also be set up according to your wishes.
Accommodations Deer Lodge and Bear Lodge are centrally located in the Upper
Village, and offer 1, 2, and 3 bedroom condominiums as well as basic lodge rooms.
Both have easy access to parking, conference and meeting spaces, restaurants and
chairlifts.
Amenities Mount Washington is a full-service, four-season resort. Dining options
range from pub fare to family dining and gourmet dining. Summer outdoor
experiences at Mount Washington include: cross country and lift-accessed downhill
mountain biking; scenic chairlift rides; lift-accessed hiking routes; mini golf; disc golf;
bungee trampoline; interpretive tours and eco-tours.
Meeting Space Technical Facilities
Mount Washington has the state-of-the-art audio/visual equipment necessary to host
weddings, conferences and international sporting events. In addition to standard AV
equipment and presentation materials, Mount Washington also has portable sound
equipment designed for outdoor and all-weather use.

Meeting Spaces
A stone fireplace and timber-frame construction make the lobby one of the many
ideal reception locations at the Old House Village. Guests can mingle on the patio
overlooking the gardens, which since 1938 have been a favourite location for
weddings, tea parties and social gatherings. A 2-storey Penthouse Suite doubles as a
hospitality suite and boardroom setting for up to 16 people. Phase Two construction
(completion in 2008) will add 45 suites and will include a stylish, 1200 sq. ft. meeting
facility with capacity to seat 75 guests.
Accommodations All suites in the hotel include king beds and luxurious duvets,
air conditioning, full kitchens and high speed internet. Living rooms have fireplaces
and LCD televisions with DVD/CD players and all the sofas have queen size sofa
bed pullouts. The suites are equipped with a 3-piece bathroom, while the Penthouse
has a jetted tub and shower for two.
Amenities Phase One (2006) boasts an indoor hot tub, infra-red sauna, exercise
area and atrium, business centre and BBQ area. Private catering services are available
by special request. Phase Two (2008): The expansion will include a full service 5000
sq.ft. spa, outdoor swimming pool, outdoor hot tub, fully-equipped exercise facility,
full-service business centre and convention facilities.
Tomato Tomäto at The Old House Village offers fine fusion dining in either a dining
room or lounge environment. Catered menus available.
All Meeting and Conference spaces, to be completed in 2008, will come equipped
with the latest in AV technology. Screens are accompanied by an LCD Projector,
slide projector, overhead projector and a 80” plasma-screen TV with DVD/VCR/
CD. Standard presentation materials include flip charts, whiteboards, podiums with
microphones, laser pointers and a state-of-the-art surround sound audio system.

This contemporary public art gallery in Downtown
Courtenay features exhibits by emerging and established
experimental artists in all mediums.
Meeting Spaces & Amenities The Comox Valley Art Gallery is ideal for small to
medium-sized events like book or poetry readings, lectures and awards presentations. The
1050 sq. ft. space features quality track lighting and a minimalist modern design. Due
to the gallery’s primary mandate as a public art venue, decorations may not be affixed to
walls nor can three-dimensional art pieces be moved. The Gallery can seat 40 people
comfortably and hold up to 100 for a reception. Amenities include 40 chairs, several

The Rotary Centennial Pavilion is in the centre of Simms Park, a four-hectare park on
the banks of the Courtenay River in Downtown Courtenay. The Pavilion offers 800 sq.
ft. of covered stage space on three levels, plus full electrical servicing. A gently sloping
hillside can provide ground-seating for approximately 800 people.
This venue is used regularly for community events, political rallies, concerts, weddings
and outdoor theatre. Amenities include a public address system available for rent, public
washrooms, and 60 chairs on-site. A new, covered charcoal barbecue area is also available
for rent. Simms Park is located across from Lewis Park on the Old Island Highway.
Named after an honoured citizen and actor, the Sid Williams
Civic Theatre in Downtown Courtenay is the primary
performing arts facility in the Comox Valley.

Meeting Spaces The Customs House Presentation Centre sits next to the
Cumberland Village Square in the heart of town. This grand historic building was
the former post office and customs office, and recently celebrated its 100th birthday
with an amazing face-lift.
Inside this venerable building is a unique boardroom or small group venue, ideal for
impressing clients and guests at meetings, celebrations or parties. The interior design
features beautiful light-coloured walls, dark wooden shutters over arched windows,
original hardwood trim and flooring and dramatic pillars and stonework quarried at
local mines. The Customs House Presentation Centre can handle up to 25 guests and
is expanding in 2008 to accommodate 50 guests with on-site kitchen facilities.

from the ceiling with a touch of the remote control button. Stay wireless for internet
service, or connect your laptop to the projector and sound system to play presentations,

Mount Washington Alpine Resort and the Comox Valley enjoy
closer conditions to Whistler’s Callaghan Valley than anywhere else
in BC. With similar elevation, snow conditions and temperatures,
teams will find the perfect training conditions in preparation for
2010. The ComoxValley boasts incredible cross country and dryland
training opportunities, has hosted world cup championships and
is an official training site of the Canadian national cross country
ski team.
This multi-purpose recreation centre is located in central
Courtenay, and is a focal point in the community for a variety
of social & recreational opportunities both indoors and out.

Lewis Centre Facility & Uses
The wheelchair-accessible Lewis Centre has a wide variety of rooms suitable for
everything from meetings to gymnastics. Several smaller detached facilities around the
park are also available for rental. A full range of recreation, arts and fitness programs
is offered inside the Lewis Centre. Outside there are well-lit playing fields, sports
courts and wide trails on the banks of the Courtenay River.
Indoor Facilities The fully-equipped fitness centre has floor-to-ceiling windows
to allow maximum natural light. There are two gymnasiums where wellness programs
from A to Z—aikido to Zen meditation—are held. Blow off some steam in the four
squash courts while the kids get creative in the Craft Room. For smaller children, there
is a Nursery School, which offers a full range of programs for kids and parents.
Outdoor Facilities—Fields or Parks Four tennis courts and two of the three
baseball diamonds are lit at night. There is a covered outdoor stage, and stand seating
around the playing fields.
Scale your own personal K2 on the outdoor climbing wall, or enjoy a cool dip in
the 40x100 ft. outdoor swimming pool. Skateboards and BMX bikes are welcome
at the skate park, or play a friendly game of hoops on the basketball court. There are
picnic tables, a horseshoe pitch and a nature park, plus a brightly colored water park
for young and old alike.
Amenities
Ample public parking can be found at the Lewis Centre and at the park entrances.
The Lewis Centre has change rooms with showers and lockers and stand seating
in the gymnasiums. Directly across the street is the Linc Youth Centre and indoor
skateboard park.

The three meeting rooms or classrooms can be set up in advance with the house
sound-system, microphones, overhead projector and writing and presentation materials.

Department
The Comox Recreation Department offers an average of 130
different recreational programs each quarter and hosts more
than 40 special community and private events each year.
Facilities & Uses
The Comox Valley takes pride in being the ‘Recreation Capital of Canada’. The
Comox Recreation Department offers many recreational and cultural opportunities:
gymnastics, arts and crafts, dance, racquet sports, basketball, soccer, yoga, sailing, general
fitness—even a ‘hands-on’ petting farm! Facilities are available for rental for events,
meetings, indoor and outdoor recreation and sports tournaments.
Indoor Facilities The Comox Recreation Department books a number of
community indoor facilities, including the Comox Community Centre gymnasium,
which can be rented out in its entirety or as a half-gym rental. In addition, there
are three meeting rooms or lounges, a commercial kitchen as well as a Teen Centre.
Bookings for these spaces can be done by telephone.
Outdoor Facilities —Fields or Parks The Town of Comox has mild weather
and spectacular views, which make for a memorable setting for sports tournaments
and outdoor recreation events. Baseball diamonds and soccer fields are home to local
minor leagues and can be rented out for visitor games and tournaments. Apart from
the Recreation Centre, Comox Recreation has 2 tennis court facilities, including
one with 6 courts and a clubhouse in the heart of Comox. Get on the water with
sailing programs or rent a Dragon Boat for some group paddle time.
Amenities
In addition to numerous fitness programs specializing in cardio and weight/strength
training, there is also a Fitness Studio in which to work up a sweat. Afterwards, take
advantage of the steam room to soothe aching muscles.

The Comox Recreation Department has three large, well-lit meeting rooms, plus a
1950s-themed Teen Centre with black-and-white checkered floors and diner-style
booths. The full gymnasium can host a banquet of up to 450 people, while the
half-gym can hold up to 300 depending on the seating arrangement. There are
full kitchen facilities, a house sound system, and a full array of AV equipment and
presentation materials.

A venue with a balance of historic character and
modern verve, the Cumberland Recreation Society
has a variety of spaces available for sporting events,
dances, dinners or any type of large gathering.
Indoor Facilities & Uses
Cumberland Recreation Hall The Cumberland Recreation Hall features a
full-size gymnasium for a full range of sporting or social events. There is an upper
viewing area of the gymnasium with seating, a refreshment outlet, a commercial-grade
kitchen and banquet supplies for 350 people. Staging is available for presentations,
community performances and even fashion shows. A fully-equipped meeting room
in the recreation centre seats up to 12 comfortably, and has ample natural light and
double doors that open onto greenspace.
Cultural Centre in Moncrief Hall This venue on the second floor of the
Cultural Centre has large windows, allowing for natural lighting and views of the
town centre and surrounding mountains. There is a full kitchen, a banquet and
serving station, a moveable bar and seating for 170 guests. An elevator provides easy
access for those who have difficulty with stairs.
Outdoor Facilities — Fields or Parks
The outdoor amenities are ideal for softball tournaments and large special events.
There are two full-sized softball diamonds, one of which is lit at night, as well as one
Little League diamond. Other sports facilities include courts for tennis and basketball,
a horseshoe pitch, plus a popular BMX track.
For spectators and players there are bleachers, a concession outlet, washrooms and
plenty of parking. Families with young children can enjoy the playground with
adjoining water park on hot summer days.
Amenities
The fitness studio has a great selection of weights and cardio machines and looks
out over the #6 Mine Park run by the local Heritage Society. There are squash,
racquetball and basketball courts, or try something new and exciting on the 26’ high
indoor climbing wall. Six belay stations means a larger group can keep active together
while learning climbing techniques and rope-handling safety.

The Resort boasts several restaurants, an alpine village and on-mountain ‘ski-in/ski-out’

Alpine The average snow pack reaches an incredible 33 ft (1000 cm), often the deepest
in Canada. The summit of Mount Washington is 5215 ft (1588m) and the vertical drop
is 1657 ft (505m). Mount Washington is accessed by eight lifts, including a high-speed
quad and a high-speed six-seater. The resort has the capacity to handle an amazing 12,200
rides per hour. The terrain varies from groomed beginner, intermediate and expert runs
to well-spaced glades, huge bowls and steep chutes.
Nordic In 2006, Mount Washington underwent extensive renovations to meet
international level competition standards in Nordic events, and has played proud host to
elite-level events and teams. It is an official training site for the Canadian National CrossCountry Ski Team. The resort offers skiers a 33-mile (55 km) trail system with track set
trail for both classic and skate skiing. The Nordic area is partially located within beautiful
Strathcona Park and lift service is available for expert level trails. Raven Lodge is a stunning
10,000 sq. ft. natural cedar building that includes a lounge, restaurant, showers and sauna,
locker room, laundry, internet, retail, rental and waxing facilities.
Other Winter Activities Snowshoe enthusiasts will enjoy over 12 miles (20km) of
trails that range from gentle slopes to rolling hills. There is also a 1000 ft (200m) all natural
luge track. The Ozone, a lift-accessed night-lit snow tubing park, features bonfires every
evening and fun for all ages and abilities.
Mountain Biking Come summer, the slopes of Mount Washington reveal the rocks
and roots that make our bike park one of the premier places to ride in Canada. Two highspeed lifts provide full access to 18 trails and over 11 miles (35 km) of steep downhill trails
coupled with plenty of man made features, like log rides, boardwalks, berms, wall rides and
tabletop jumps. The mountain also features expanded cross-country terrain with runs up
to 6 km. High-end full suspension bikes and safety equipment rentals are available.
Other Summer Activities Experience the spectacular views of the Coast Mountains,
the Comox Valley, the Georgia Strait and Strathcona Provincial Park by taking it easy
with a scenic chairlift ride to the summit of Mount Washington. From there you can
hike on a wide range of trails that eventually lead you back down the mountain. Enjoy
free camping near Raven Lodge, with day access to washrooms, showers and coin laundry.
Other attractions include a bungee-trampoline, mini-golf and a nine-hole Disc Golf course.
Mount Washington is also an ideal location for film and photo shoots.
